It's more how long they will last and they will, for the most part, deliver more torque. Brushes are often the first thing to go in power tools.

What exactly is so good about going brushless. Asking because I've plenty of power tools, some of them brushless and I don't see any benefits apart from less nosie - which really doesn't matter in power tools.

Coming from somebody who ' likes' there own comments <3 Give over Pete (y)

I'm merely offering guidance to shoppers about a better option for the same money. - The other is Brushless (you won't understand). - The other has better batteries. - The other has more torque. The other drill (as linked) poo poo's your posted drill in almost every field. Anyway, thanks for the vote, you must have accidently pressed heat on atleast 2 of them as they have risen. (popcorn)

Cheaper than Homebase, in stock and free delivery. (y)

You'll need compressed air if you plan to use a powered tool for wheel nuts. I'd recommend getting an extended bar and doing it the manual way.

We bought this about 10 years ago. One of the best cordless drills we've ever used. Still running strong today. Not sure if the quality has changed but Makita is always our "go-to" for work tools.

Nope. No where near enough torque. And I wouldn't bother with an impact wrench either, unless your a tradesperson (in which case you should already know what one is), as the average DIYer is unlikely to make much use of one. Better to save your money and get a 2ft(600mm) breaker bar.

Shirley this isn't just an "in case" type of hardware.

I got this same set about 3 years ago. I have not regretted it at all.

Solid drill and handy, good value starter kit. Free click and collect, only. SUPPLIED WITH: 1X 18V 3.0Ah BL1830B Battery DC18SD Charger 101 Piece Accessory Set Carry Case

Will this drill through a brick wall?

Cheaper at Lawson-his, with free delivery. Also, the 30% off is a joke when it's £129 at Amazon. Good kit for a DIYer, but not voted for reasons above.

Duuuu..... not everyone who's looking for a deal is a trade person, this is a great deal.

Buy a model with 2 batteries if you need it or buy spare battery ,not everyone needs two battery bundled.this is a great kit and price is very good

There are other kits out there which will house two or three batteries and even a few which will charge two batteries at a time for trades people. You will probably want an impact driver too being trade, and really good accessories. I'd buy these individually as you actually need them. You also probably have existing LXT tools, so if you only need a drill, try a body only deal. Batteries are also available separately - stick with 6ah ones as they last longer and provide larger currents for demanding tools since cells in parallel have lower internal resistances. I'd set aside a bit more than £115 for all this however. This is however a good price for what is chiefly a starter accessory set with a decent drill, a fair battery and the means to quickly (22 mins) charge it while you enjoy a biscuit and cuppa. Lower price:

Makita DHP482RFWJ 18V LXT Combi Drill with Fast charger, carry case, and 2 x 3.0Ah 18V Li-ion batteries £120.40 at Homebase (Free C&C)

Excellent drill and good buy at this price.

Homebase , Bishop Auckland have 3 on the shelf in the tool section by the door

Me a Diyer. Already purchased the makita yesterday but ain't opened it. To return and buy the Bosch or keep. Confusions!

Different tools to a degree. The makita has better batteries and higher torque, and has a wider range of tools that share the same battery. Arguably a better professional tool. Whereas the Bosch is a bunch cheaper. So maybe better choice for a diyer

This or the Bosch PSB currently £49 on amazon deal?

I started off with a very similar Makita drill kit to this. Have progressed to using the batteries for the Makita lawnmower (DLM380Z), strimmer (DUR181Z), and the vacuum (DCL180Z). It's changed my life getting rid of all them cables. Keep an eye out on Amazon for big price drops on the lawnmower and strimmer.

Deal not showing for me. Am I doing something wrong

Hmm "Non-replaceable carbon brushes" - while I'd not expect that to be a problem for most people, it does ensure a finite life of this tool. Amazed it's actually mentioned in the feature list!

Decent price compared to buying the kit separately. Note that the charger included is the DC18SD and not the DC18RC. Charge times for each below and you will see the noticeable difference. DC18SD Charge times: 14.4/18V 3.0Ah battery in 60 mins 18V 4.0Ah battery in 90 mins 18V 5.0Ah battery in 110 mins DC18RC Charge times: 14.4/18V 3.0Ah battery in 22 mins 18V 4.0Ah battery in 36 mins 18V 5.0Ah battery in 45 mins Personally I wouldn't go for this as the charger is poor and the drill is only up to light DIY use.

shouldn't a work light be standard? Great deal either way.

Got mine yesterday.. Nice quality lot smaller than I expected. :o But still very nice. I have another Bosch Power for all high Impact drill which is nearly twice it`s size ...So this small variant will come in very handy and the 2 extra battery's are a Bonus as I really needed some extra units. (Only had the 1) Thanks again OP for posting the deal up. Best Regards,

It's a good price, but the power the battery will be able to deliver is on the low side. A 3Ah battery would be ideal.

Proving expensive... now I’ve got the batteries I couldn’t resist getting this: Makita DHS680Z 18V LXT Brushless Circular Saw - Skin for £125.30 again from Homebase. Lucky I did the reserve and collect as they tried to charge me £152 in store, which is the reduced price on the shelves.

Exactly. Either way you’re going to end up with quality tools

Yeah, and I totally get that. Brushless on a combi drill is well worth having. A lot of this is horses for courses, right. You can’t really go wrong with Makita LXT stuff.

I looked at this... great spec - but I decided to opt for brushless.

While I’m not convinced I agree that this kit will lack power for the average user, I did come across this: Three (smaller) batteries, but the slightly higher spec bodies.

Hexadecima1 However the one you got is probably fine.

I'm not 100% but I think the numbers and letters after the 796 refer to the package. So it'll change depending on what case/batteries/charger it comes with. The drill alone is only about 70 quid but the batteries push up the price. 5ah batteries go for about £50 so if you're getting a couple of those expect the package price to be 2-3 times the price of a naked drill. My rule of thumb was to price up the bare drill and a couple of batteries off Amazon. If the package on hot deals was the same price but came with a case and a charger then it was a good deal. On batteries I think the 3ah and 4ah are older models, not bad mind but they're now cramming 5ah into the same size. Personally after doing way too much research I went for a couple of 2ah. A builder will think this is sacrilege but I didn't want to add more bulk to a drill that was already a bit of overkill and it's not like I drill holes all day! 2ah worked out fine for me I screwed down all my floorboards on a single charge.

What's the difference between the D2 and M2:- Toolstation DCD796M2

65nm great if you want to tickle someone

Ah OK mate, I took the plunge for this one as a casual DIY'er. If the one you mention was offer, I would have paid the extra for it.

Dewalt gear is dropping in price all over. I think they must have a new range coming. It’s a matter of when to bite. Brilliant gear as well, I’ve always been a makita man but I’ve been unable to resist on a few dewalt stuff over the last month. This frickin site is lethal but I love it.

OK price, not voted either way, but probably worth stumping up the extra £30 for this one: DCD778 More torque, bigger batteries, faster charger.

Sorry I didn't get a notification. I was able to use this to change all four shocks on the car that had likely been on for 14 years / 130k miles. Made fairly light work of an otherwise grotty job and think I would have struggled more with just a breaker bar. For £80 happy to sign off on a recommendation

Has anyone else had any good usage yet ? Really tempted at the price but woul£ like some feedback first thanks

anyone bought this used it in anger yet. looking foe one foe home mechanic use

They're bound with 14 years of rust but I'm sure the blowtorch will help things on their way (mad)

it'll probably be OK for stuff like that. usually only 60Nm or so (freshly torqued) I'm keeping mine i do have a mains powered 1/2 impact which has a lot more torque if it starts to struggle but means running extensions etc..

Mine are ok. Just drilled through brick and breeze wall for some water pipe. Struggles on the circular saw. But ok on drill and impact driver.

Also just checked my local B&Q, they seem to have replaced this kit with the same thing but with 2x 2.0Ah batteries at £160. Or you can pay an extra £30 and get the 3 tool kit including the circular saw.

If the impact driver is anything like the impact wrench the front part around the chuck is actually metal coated black. As for the drill, the actual chuck is metal with a rubberised plastic outer layer (like any other drill). I don't get why someone would assume a plastic chuck.

Is it?

Nothing at my local B&Q in Sydenham. They sell no Ryobi at all there

I have emailed cpc 3 times about the twin pack but still no reply this drill they don't sell anymore. But they sell aeg combi and impact Driver for £167 so good price. I've asked them about the charger having UK plug still waiting for a reply. Thanks for taking the time to reply. (y)

I should think so since it's sold here.

Hi can anyone tell me if the charger has UK plug? Thanks

Same thing with me...tried for weeks to register and online help no good. gave them a call instead. In turns out the website doesn't like cpc from the dropdown. They said to register the drill first as cpc, and once that's added to your account then go in and register the batteries and charger as homebase. In the end think I logged the whole lot as homebase.

Lol I had mine replaced but the second one was the same too so I just kept it. Just need to find a good deal on a impact driver now

Thanks for confirmation, oh yeah forgot about reverse/forward button being a bit loose. Ah well, I will live with that I suppose, not feeling like returning another drill back for minor issue, which in fact is not a major thing. Just a bit hard to chew if you expect perfect product. :D If you are really bothered with it, little googling said it can be fixed by taping 2 pieces of duck/gorila tape stacked one on top each other, but I am fine as long it does not impacts operation.

Yes they dont seem to have designed it very well. The battery felt loose and the reverse and forward button felt like it was loose too. But it outperformed by a mile! my makita drill even though the build quality on the makita was better.

Quick question mate, does the battery holds the full grip on yours or it feels a bit loose once slid onto drill? Mine seems to wobble little bit.
