Hi there, I found out of the wife it was actually £12k (was getting confused as a lot of haggling and also porch being done by the same people at the same time). Still a lot I know, but it would mean a lot more disruption and living in the SE (even though not a posh area) I don't think we could get it done for the same cost. Thanks Mark.
Remove the old conservatory and start again with an extension, I would have thought £15K would be enough to pay for one unless you live in an expensive area were builders think you have to much money.
That was one of about 6 quotes and also a lot of haggling as well over several weeks. Its quite a big conservatory and the roof is very well insulated (massive blocks of insulation) with a couple of windows in the roof as well. Also it's not just adding tiles to the old roof it's totally ripping it off and an Edwardian metal/wood frame with massive custom made insulation blocks put in (making the actual insulation for the roof 10+ inches thick). Must admit I would have thought we could have got them down a little more, but afraid not. It also includes bricking up the fan windows either side, plastering the sides, roof and also installing 9 spotlights and connecting them up as well. I think it's worth the money if we can actually use it all year round.
I know - tell me about it. Thats why I wish we had built one to start with. It will be nice when it's finished hopefully as still got the big patio doors all across with a window either side in the new roof.
How about an orangery - lots of windows, large glass roof. A little more expensive again but useable all year and look great.
