The guy was stabbed by a fellow Brit. Rival gangs who happened to be out there at the same time. Malia was fine a few years back, good deal.

All of this is to say, I wish I had the time off so that I could go back, I'd love to take this deal!

go_rators

We stayed at Stalis on the deal in April for a week and that place was quiet but very pleasant, as far as we discussed with locals Malia (5 minutes down the road) is the main clubbing spot on that part of the coastline. We drove through it many times and walked there for food etc. and it seemed okay, but then we weren't there for the season so the question is, is the clubbing season still going on in early September? Because if not its a nice place to go, long beach, historical museum, restaurants, can't complain! Although I would say to rent a car (you can get one in Stalis for sure) and explore a bit, transport is a bit challenging but we drove to Agios, Lasithi, and Heraklion and it was the best idea we had :)

Really I thought it was in turkey? Mind you it could happen any where.

that was gang related from known rivals, so the ordinary punter has little to fear...

CouponCrazy

I replied on the same lines to post #7 and I updated to what's available, I'm sorry if you didn't find it at that price and you wanted to book.

CouponCrazy

fair point- I updated the price and if the departure airport changes to what's available- Package Holidays by their nature are only available, and at the price stated for a certain amount of time because of demand and there is only so much room on the plane- and to be fair the post had been live about 12 hours by the time you posted so I would have hoped by that time it might have been helpful to someone and they actually booked the last minute deal. And they are last minute so I expect most of the availability had gone, I don't know. Also the price is based on 3 people sharing that will only appeal to a limited number of people I admit. I've updated it has no one had expired the deal.

some ppl want the world for nothing - £116 won't even cover air fare normally jeez - mega cheap getaway

Crusty

I've been on a few of these 2* "accommodation on arrival" hols with Olympic..mostly been lucky with nothing "terrible".I ended up in a 2 bedroom villa once X) Generally they just fill a coach up and take you to the busiest resort..it's pot luck but can't see why anyone could complain for £116.. worst case if your room is not "good enough" yoo could just use the flight and sort out your own accommodation.

Monkeybumcheeks

Chania is close to the airport and is one of the busier towns on the island.

Hi, would you please check the address of the transfer company? I have just looked at their website and they are only showing Majorca.

johnraggett

I've worked in parts of Greece and first time I've heard this saying!! I certainly enjoyed Stalis last year, stayed in a lovely self catering family run place, not fancy and not the place I'd normally stay in but for the price it was spot on. Bit of a walk into the town, but beautiful views and very quiet, Bella Vista Apartments. One of our balconies was huge, as big as the apartment and that was a good size!

SunshineStacey

no I didnt post it as I booked it over a series of a few days, took a few gambles.. basically what I noticed was that flight prices during the summer months are swings and round abouts, one way was always cheap whilst the other was very expensive, so this time last week i booked one way flights to majorca...£200 there for four of us, but the return flights were £550, no way was I prepared to pay that so i just booked the one way with intentions of checking daily until those prices dropped. The very next day the return flight dropped to £350, i wanted to wait another few days as i was confident it would drop more but the husband was quacking in his boots lol so we paid and booked that one. (those flights include 2 x 15kg checked in cases and of course we get our 10kg hand luggage each too. Then it was onto hotel, what a head trying to find one that was what we wanted from a holiday this year, which is to chill out with lots of stuff to occupy the kids. I finally found one with great reviews that we all liked the look of, shopped around like mad and found it to be cheapest at Monarch holidays... however not content with this I rang Travel Republic and asked them to do a price match which they did. total cost of hotel approx £1160. Transfers £72 insurance about £26 (an annual policy!) and airport parking £41.99 :) Total price around £1900 It was a head ache but ive ran a few searches since and cant find it cheaper anywhere else at all :)

lowrieh1

9th July definitely peak season in Scotland. School holidays start round about the 27th June, so the holidays from Glasgow are usually priced to increase round about this time. We used to get about 2 weeks leeway until the start of the English school holidays, but they cottoned on to that a good few years back. :(

BeerGoggles

I'm not sure this is peak season, surely it is late July and August. This is out of season which is why it is relatively cheap, however, it is just self catering.

zombieman

Anywhere from glasgow should be a hot deal I assume!:p

Unfortunately it dosen't allow a link directly to the specific holiday However Hot from me, if you use the search facility and put in the details it comes up fine, the good news is that includes transfer, baggage and even food and drinl with the airline! http://ecom1.olympicholidays.com/bookingengine/default.aspx?engine=

Ypnos

I'm not making casual observations, since I spent most of my life there. Are you saying that all-inc hotels help local economies?

kjsav123

Yes - stay at home and go to a Chinese Buffet instead........ Best comparison ever. Because we all know the UK is so exactly like Crete - same weather, same facilities, same amount of rest and relaxation, the list of comparisons is endless. Maybe if every single one of the independent eating and drinking establishments in Crete hadn't become so unbelievably expensive then people would go self catering/ half board etc. The fact is Crete became so stupidly expensive the moment they joined the Euro that the only affordable way to holiday there is to go all-in. And those prices changed as a result of GREED - the businesses saw an opportunity to hike prices and took it - nothing to do with the financial ness Greece us in as a whole but probably gives some way to explain the mess. And this is not a casual observation of someone who occasionally likes to holiday in Crete, I have family who have lived there for 20+ years and have suffered the greed of the business who tried to run the island. The all-in hotels are the only ones bringing tourists in these days everywhere else is pretty much dead. Only got themselves to blame.

Ypnos

Of course it would. People always have the choice and I'm just reminding folk that all inlcusive holidays do ruin economies. People should also look into the quality of all inclusive food - for example, most all-inc hotel chains tend to freeze left over food and fly it to another of their hotels. This is actually "cheaper" than buying fresh food, which in most cases is not sourced locally either. So yes, all-inc holidays _at best_ barely sustain 50-100 staff per hotel (on minimum wage) and that's about it. And not experiencing local life...? Might as well stay at home and go to a local Chinese buffet, eh?

wackojacko99

Totally agree, I went once in July and was on a flight full of 18-30's singing 'the venga bus is coming' for the whole flight , not in the 90's either only in 2008 plus everywhere so busy! Switch to 2010 when we went to Domes in May, quiet flight, quiet island and a lovely relaxing time! Like I said before, out of season not everyone's cup of tea!

cibarious

In general, I agree with you but as Crete is the most southerly of the islands, it has a two month longer tourist season than the rest of the Med' and, interestingly, central Crete is closer to the coast of Libya than it is to Athens. If you want to spend your days on a sunbed then perhaps it's better from May onwards. Howvere, if you're interested in a mixed activity holiday then April is a really nice time to go as you can sunbed on hot days and sightsee on warm days. From personal experience, Crete is a delightful island with delightful people and fabulous food, only improved by an absence of tourists: as anyone who's been to the Temple at Knossos will confirm. :D

pigeonmount

The Med is too cold for a 'sunny and warm' holiday in April. Would only go May onwards. Voted, literally, cold.

Now I'm really curious. :) What are you attempting this on a PC. Mac, smart phone plus browser - are you using an odd combination? I'm using FF on a vanilla PC running Windows 7.

Odd, that link works fine and when browsing I get the odd 'please join' message that I can cancel. The link in the OP still wont let me do anything though!

That's most odd as I'm not aware of ever having a "join now" and I've been rummaging around TZ for quite a long time. Here's the direct link for the details, I hope it works for you. :) try this!
