Couldn't find this holiday when looking although I did find 3 nights for 2 in a hotel for £3

Been to Croatia 3 times , it's lovely , if you do go to Pula try and get to Rovinj which is not far away , lovely little town , we stayed at Hote Istra which is a Hotel on it's own island a 10 minute free ferry ride from Rovinj on the mainland . Beautiful place.

Well done u smashed it with this. Croatia is beautiful. Heat from me

boltont

Sounds a good deal to me. I can recommend a trip to the Plitvice lakes. It’ll be a long day travelling there in a day but it is well worth it.

Flew back from Croatia last night. Loved it. People were nice. Stunning scenery along the coast. Would highly recommend this a holiday destination. Drove from Split though Bosnia to Dubrovnik. No problems at all.

cheaperbythe12

Great post. Wife and I did a very similar trip last year. Sadly we didn't like Bosnia (people were not very friendly and stole the hub caps of our hire car lol). However, Montenegro was incredible. Anyone thinking about this should really go there. We stayed AirBNB and the incredible fortress wall (smaller version of wall of china) was outside our balcony which was brilliant. Loved Croatia so much we're returning in a few weeks. Great people, fantastic food, memorable scenery you won't forget.

_missrain

We did a similar road trip last summer. Croatian coast from Slovenia then into Bosnia- specifically Mostar and Sarajevo. Amazing country totally underrated. Can't vouch for Montenegro but heard good things from friends who've been to Kotor. You need to ensure you're covered to cross borders between EU & non-EU. You will probably have to pay additional fees for this but it varies significantly between rental companies. Recommend you read the fine print beforehand to ensure you're covered (insurance).

Croatia airlines fly from Heathrow and Gatwick and are actually pretty cheap considering they include in flight refreshments and 23kg of hold luggage as standard. Around the same time you could fly to Rijeka for £160 return direct from Heathrow. From Rijeka head down to Cres and Losinj islands or go island hopping on the ferrys.

jyonda

It all depends where you base yourself but if you don't drive you'd be better off in a town which has a beach. Most do. You could do some shore excursions to get out and about but I'd recommend getting on a boat if you can. You can get to most places on buses and ferrys.

jyonda

Love Croatia. Not been to Pula but it's a major tourist destination on the Istrian peninsula so probably quite busy but there's so much wonderful coast you won't need to go far for some quiet. I'd say a car is worthwhile to get around and find the nice swimming spots away from the towns though an estate car is overkill for three people with hand luggage. There are very few sandy beaches in croatia but this means that the water is very clear and many entry points into the water have steps built into the rocks so its like a big swimming pool. Can't wait to go back.

mattgrant

There are local buses for getting around. Car would be better. We did fly drive ... Dubrovnik split tragir and Zedar. All amazing. Coast is awesome. No sandy beaches though.

tek-monkey

Also if you do visit Plitvice Lakes there are lockers available for small luggage at certain entrances but you have to ask to use them but they are a godsend as the amount of people i saw struggling with really heavy backpacks after an 6 hour hike.

whatyadoinsucka

yeah ferry/bus its all pretty easy, some buses pay an hour before others book a day or two in advance if its likely to be busy, this website you probably already use it is a good starting point. https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Zadar/%C5%A0ibenik don't always go cheapest, look at the times and drop offs enroute and also the condition of the busses, they are cheap for a reason, mid price is usually a better level of comfort and safety. we stopped in sibenik for convenience (plenty of buses and facilities), we had a nice apartment very central rather than a house in the middle of nowhere near plitvice. (that a car would be needed).

rachelandgromit

That's what I've booked, into Zadar out of Split and hope to replicate this itinerary using public transport although driving may give us some flexibility. Good to know buses are good though too.

whatyadoinsucka

We went a few years ago and stopped in sibenik for 2 nights, their are 3 or 4 daily buses to plitvice and return (around a 60 min trip, from memory) it was a nice little town, very few travellers, and nice castles restaurants and bars. I'd definately go in late June, July to get the sun, not sure what march April is like, The bus network around Croatia is superb, try and book different airports in and out, done Croatia 3 times and usually paid £35-65 each way. zadar, split, Dubrovnik and tivat (Montenegro) are easy to fly into and get to and from

archer1204

My itineary was a little different but here goes first i went in May first flight from STN to Zadar Overnight at Zadar nice little guesthouse 2 minutes away from the bus stop from the airport as it was quite late arrival Then first bus to Plitvice Lakes Overnight just outside lakes again airbnb incredibly cheap accommodation for the morning if bad weather the day before. Bus from Plitvice to Split in the afternoon Stayed in Split hotel Simoni for a couple days lovely place loads to see and do. Bus from Split down to Dubrovnik my airbnb was literally 1 minute from the adriatic coast again loads to see and do but i also used it as a springboard for daily visits to Ston Korcula,Mostar Montenegro etc Fly back from Dubrovnik back to LDN Took a bit of planning with bus routes etc May was great not too hot not extremely busy in Dubrovnik. With the bus trips you literally hug the coast roads all the way down so amazing views to be gained and if i remember no more than 3 hours at one time.

I go to Croatia every year and I'm still finding hard to find "amazingly cheap" place to eat. Never mind Dubrovnik which is together with Split, the most expensive place in Croatia. Beautiful yes, cheap no.

rachelandgromit

You need to book each thing individually. So.... Flights you book with Ryanair. The majority of the accommodation is all booked at booking.com as per the details in the breakdown. The hotel Dubrovnik you need to book on www.venere.com using the code that is in HUKD voucher section. Car hire is done via the website Auto Europe. It sounds complicated but it really isn't! Just open multiple tabs on your phone/computer. That's what I do and I find it easier as that way I can book everything in one go.

Credit card acceptance are mostly available in shops, restaurants, pubs, petrol station and even the high way pay toll! On last day, I've used my credit card the most as I've ran out their currency cash and stuck my credit card in to the ATM and got some Kunas out :) I'm not really sure depends what hotels, and I've spent £8 for a night in hostel which pretty reasonable lol Do some research, plan it and budget it :) have fun! gaurjai

Hey, I just wanted to check about the travel money. I am visiting Croatia end of this month. Did you carry cash only OR you used credit card as well? How was the overall credit card acceptance at places like petrol station, restaurants, hotels, pubs etc? Also you reckon how much money roughly for 3 adults when all hotels, car rent etc is paid out and for normal usage eating out and pubs etc, nothing fancy eating. Thanks

kketbb

Just got back yesterday and I've absolutely loved it! Didn't have enough time to visit Hvar but I will save that next time hehe! Split and Dubrovnik is just beatiful!
