Great price, under £60 for a pair. With thanks to @Changename for the spot (y) Specs: DDR4 PC4-25600 • 16-18-18 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-3200 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 •

Probably was posted before, but anyone worried about mixing ram? Got 16gb 3000 kit sitting around, not sure yet if I should return in

way to expensive, when you can download ram for free these days!....

My motherboard is an Odense2-K, take it this should work with it since it’s DDR4? Not bought RAM in a good few years but that’s the only thing that should affect it right? (confused)

Looking for a bit more than AMD 3600 since I bought a Oculus Rift ages ago,. Impulse brought In a price Glitch couple years ago (wasn't groundbreaking but it was a pretty good at the time, still pretty good now considered I paid like £300 new when they're still selling for £350 in the sales) Anyway basically I currently have a GTX 960 OC 2GB 2x4gb (8gb) DDR3 2133hz WD Harddrive 1tb Corsair Semi Mod 600w Hyper 212 Cooler Not sure what my Motherboard is but it was about £60 in late 2015 Do I really need a expensive motherboard.. though than again it would have probably worked out cheaper if I didn't cheap out on my first system, especially case which is just ugly and it's hard to build it (pretty sure it's broken too) (lol) Any recommendations since I've ignored PC market for ages since the prices now their is a couple gpus which I can't decide what's best ..oh I have a Ultrawide Freesync monitor if that helps (I wouldn't want to pay more just for a AMD card if it's not the best I can get for my money)

If you can re-use your drives (HD/SSD), power supply and happy with your graphics card etc - then you just need a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. Something like the new AMD 3600 CPUs are fantastic buys at the moment for gaming. They are ~£180 then the new X570 AM4 chipset motherboards are ~£160-200 region.

Crucial CT2K8G4SFS8266 16 GB Kit (8 GB x2) (DDR4, 2666 MT/s, PC4-21300, Single Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Pin) Memory

Did anyone receive 32GB (16GB x 2) instead of 16GB? Both my modules have 8GB labels, but OS displays 32GB of RAM.

I bought the dell laptop and also bought this RAM. I’ve literally just installed it, it’s the first time I’ve ever modified anything on a laptop so feeling pretty pleased with myself 😃

The £ difference was less than £30 when ordered, for that I felt it was worth it for future proofing.

Assume that's sarcasm...

It was £101 earlier and then £79.58! I think this is a decent deal for one of the better SSDs. 5 year warranty to boot.

Oh definitely, I wouldn't have risked FFP with a HDD. Thought I'd take a shot with this one!

FFP is legit, but it's also pretty barebones, a lot of spinny hard drives sent in FFP have arrived broken due to lack of packaging. Probably matters less on an SSD as it doesn't contain any moving parts.

My MX500 arrived today, ordered it in frustration free packaging. Drive is brand new, unopened, and performs amazingly! Paired it with the "Sabrent 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool-free External Hard Drive Enclosure" to use as a spare portable storage drive. Shame its now out of stock, but for those who you that ordered the frustration free packaging, don't worry, the device is legit :)

Thanks for sharing. Decided to save some pennies and went for this instead of Samsung.

ahh balls, It is the BX500!

Great upgrade for the imac. Lowest price in long time.

Looks like I'm in the same boat as a few of you above. Recently ordered a 27" 2017 iMac and was going to going to see how I got on with it before ordering more RAM, but can't resist at this price. It's still ~ £140 on the crucial site. Thanks OP.

Been waiting a while for a good price on this spec memory, and at this price surely it’s a no brainer! Its for my 2017 5k iMac too like most others it seems, so am hoping to see a good performance improvement for video editing. Heat added

Thanks you, yes I think it was just Apple being cautious around power. Ordered, thanks agai

Yes, that is the one I purchased. There has been some misinformation on apples website about this imac, stating that this model only accepts up to 32 gb but I can attest that this is not the case. I have 40 gb installed and here is the link stating that it can accept up to 64 gb. This upgrade really makes a difference.

I got the 27 imac 5K 2017 (mne92b/a) posted here. Is that the same model you got? its saying it’s not compatible on crucial website. I can’t see why. is that because it will exceed the maximum? excuse my memory ignorance Ed

You are emphatically wrong, I just want to make sure you don't think I accepted your point. I don't want to continue the discussion though as you are going to repeat yourself. If you jump in a thread about QLC saying it's just as good as TLC, if I see it, I'll be sure to make the same, or similar, point that QLC has lower quality than TLC. You can call it what you want, but TLC is a better quality material used. Samsung 860 EVO versus Samsung 860 QVO. The TLC is higher quality. Same manufacturer, same process, different material. Higher quality. Invent a word to use to compare the EVO and the QVO, please.

No not inherently. To use your example of oak Vs pine a pine wardrobe made by a fine furniture maker using the best wood and built to fit the desired function is not better quality than say an IKEA do it yourself kit even if it's made of Oak. As I said you are conflating the wrong things. You think you understand what quality means, but you don't. The closest example I can think of is it's like you are saying a petrol car is lower quality than a diesel because it's diesel lasts longer and is more fuel efficient per litre. But that's not the same at all as you aren't comparing quality. To compare quality in a comparison there has to be a degree of equality.

I enjoy a good argument about semantics :D Quality.

Of a similar kind is the key aspect. It's wrong to conflate things when discussing quality when they aren't comparable. Also there is a difference in when you describe qualities and quality comparison. It's pretty pointless to continue this as every example you give I've got several reasons why you've not used it correctly and at this point given it several times. Clearly we aren't going to agree and that's really irrelevant to the point.

My poor English? You are trying to sit here and tell me quality doesn't refer to a material that can be directly compared. the standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something. "an improvement in product quality" TLC is better in every physical sense. It is faster, it lasts longer. The difference between TLC and QLC is QLC is cheaper. That is, by definition, lower quality.

What question?

You know exactly what I mean. The drive we are talking about needs an M.2 to SATA adapter to work with a PS4. It is an NVMe drive. Answer the question.

Fair on replies, I may have been a bit scathing. I tried to be quite even handed but re-reading... That's a little doom + gloom. It's absolutely awesome for a games drive. It's awesome as a general "long term storage" (so write little, read much). It's fine for most other stuff and... I'll admit I'd not seen the SLC cache offered. That IS going to take some filling for most people in normal use. I'll move my position more to it being awesome for the money for most, be aware of it's limitations if you know you want a drive to abuse its write speeds.

Depends if it has an m.2 drive

ordered this started the return for my intel 660p, might as well take the saving since they're extremely similar drives

Since taking out my ssd and replacing it with a mechanical drive my pc is running a lot smoother but slower

True, but that's not due to endurance, it's lack of DRAM cache chip, and perhaps a cheaper controller. Regardless, most hard drive transfers are 4k / 64k, so unless you're copying very large files all day, or hibernating and restoring your pc all day, it's not going to affect most people. And remember, that's sustained ~100mb/s which is still faster than normal hard drives, as the location on the platter makes a difference and speed also declines gradually as you write more data in succession... Also, check out the crazy slow access time (~18ms); compare that to the 0 to 1ms of any SSD, which is the biggest advantage of ssd's compared to mechanical drives, second being the short writes (4k/64k transfers) such as paging file accesses. And as we all (should) love the environment, the third major advantage of ssd's is the extremely low power use 8)

I never mentioned the problem with endurance. Try using a dramless boot drive and you'll see for yourself. Sustained speeds drop over time due to the latency the system has to get the fat from main memory and not from the storages own dram controller because it is lacking one. It averages out the speed of an hard drive if we look over the averages. What's the point in getting an SSD apart from faster boot and vibration, the fast speeds decline, a benchmark will have to been done through sustained writes/reads to determine the actual real world performance. Dramless ssd controllers from brands like Phison are also unreliable so when it does die, it's likely to never be able to be recovered as well. Luckily this has a silicon motion model but I have doubts about dramless controllers, they're literally the same controller on usb sticks.

This BX500 240gb ssd has a 80tb TBW endurance, which means even if you some how managed to write 40gb of data (that's 15% of total capacity) every day, it should last at least 5 years (usually double/triple that amount).

I also find it incredibly surprising, especially for an MLC-based drive to only last 5 years?! (skeptical) 3D-based nand has better endurance, but nonetheless even with older ssd's, it seems pretty crazy to die as quickly, even for a data-centre environment. I would expect a typical cheap ssd (70-80 TBW) to last at least 15 years, and for a more expensive drive, at least 20 to 30 years. Are you sure it's not 5% remaining (storage) capacity rather than life?? (confused) I'd also suggest checking SMART data, especially "reallocation count", "retired nand blocks", and "reserved blocks/space remaining" or similar attributes. It looks like Crucial also has attribute "percent lifetime" used/remaining? Oh and make sure that TRIM is enabled! (y)
