The Ddr3 is still very much in demand. I was looking for 8gb for long, but pricey..

Returns online are straightforward and free, although not fast at the moment. And returns in store have always been painless for me but that may vary by store to some extent. Mistakes do happen but it's not always a bad thing. I bought a load of RAM the other day and amongst my local store's stock was a stick labelled 2GB that was actually 4GB and a SODIMM stick labelled 4GB that was actually 8GB. With the kind of store CeX is you have to take the rough with the smooth and yes, it certainly helps to know what you're looking for and looking at. I can appreciate it's not for everyone though.

My Dell Inspiron, as listed on HUKD in 2009, is still running perfectly happy on DDR2. My best ever HUKD purchase.

I would 100% avoid. I have twice bought RAM from cex online. Both times they sent the wrong RAM. Across 2 orders they made three mistakes: wrong size, DDR3/DDR4 mix up, wrong speed. You'll also risk a wasted journey in person, because the people in these shops have no idea about RAM (and didn't even bother/know to Google part numbers to check what certain sticks are). Only worth it if you have a cex near you as part of another routine, and you know your stuff when it comes to RAM.

If you're fine buying used you can get a pair of 4GBs from CEX for £17.50, two year warranty too, so on a older ddr3 laptop shouldn't matter too much. https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail/?id=smem412800204&categoryName=memory-laptop-ddr3&superCatName=computing&title=4-gb-pc12800-ddr3-1600mhz-204-pin-memory

These work in your PC, but I would buy matching RAM from ebay. You can buy 1x4GB DDR3 RAM for £6-9.

Thank you for the reply... I appreciate it!

To check compatibility check motherboard documentation + BIOS version. Luckily in my case 'shuttle' has nice documentation of what CPUs and memory modules are supported.

niks_b

Have you seen any deal on DDR3 SO-DIMM (204 pin) 1.5v (or dual voltage)? Want 2x8GB. I tried one from cex but it was DDR3L didn't work with shuttle DS61 1.1

Good price, just sold 4x 4gb of this for 59 quid used....

viliu_me

ouch my mistake. Indeed you cant on this particular one , Even is usff , usually there is a riser card for expansion cards, i thought is one of those, but on this model it doenst have any kind of expansion slot , just 2 slots of ram . So for others "IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ADD A GPU"

Peter9588

This is a usff, not an sff, is that definitely possible?

breedalot

Not a bad kids gaming pc then tbf.

viliu_me

yes you can add a gpu later, but only a low profile one with no external power need it , although the choices are slim

That's my point, no one is going to want 2x2gb or 4x2gb sticks now, that's why I said the use case will be very limited (if it even exists). You mention old workstations like Dell's but the ram won't work in those and if it does, it will clock itself down as they don't support XMP or clock changing in the BIOS.

Same here. The 2 year warranty is great as is the expiry date on vouchers they give.I'll expire before mine does! Got an i3 2120 for £6.50 delivered as none in stock locally.Cheaper than Ebay. Would have got some more DDR3 memory from them, but was lucky enough to win an Ebay auction for 4gb for less than the cost of 2 x 2gb from CEX (and nearly half the cost of what they sell 4gb for) :D

plewis00

I have a CeX within a mile of me so that’s what I do. I got the i5-4590S from there too. eBay is fine for components but you never know what you’re getting, with CeX you have easy returns and 2-year warranty. They were better still when they did free postage on everything.

stamfordblue

Yes, CEX is the place for cheap DDR3 and some Intel i3 and i5 cpus. 2 x 2gb sticks will set you back £4 if you are lucky enough to have them in a nearby store Also Ebay is good for ram and cpu's if you get the right auction. ;)

plewis00

With an i5-4690K and wants 2x2GB sticks? I have a compact PC I use for gaming with an i5-4590S and installed 2x8GB in it because it’s cheap as chips now. Anyone with a high-end DDR3 machine has almost definitely populated all the slots or filled it with lots of RAM by now. CeX are the go-to for cheap DDR3.
