I didn't post that on here, I posted it on another thread . It has obviously been merged with this one. Plus I posted it last night, not 2 hours ago.

Haha that's this post! What a plonker. :) PS It's generally accepted that a repeat of a deal posted a few months ago is OK, as people don't generally sit browsing through deals from that long ago. (y)

Already posted https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/wilko-durable-washable-matt-emulsion-and-others-eg-dulux-25l-was-15-now-10-wilko-3165190

I used a mushroom colour. It was pretty thick but needed a good 2 coats to hide the colour underneath. On the other hand i used dulux durable which pretty much did the job in one coat. Both are still good paints. And in a way the wilko durable finished the job flatter, whereas the dulux left tiny clods of paint here and there.

Yes because it's matt it hides the unevenness quite well. I went over the worst bits before painting with a detail sander connected to vacuum cleaner hose.

Does anyone know where I can get cheap wood paint?

The usual DIY 5 lire tins are not cheap and so watery nowadays...makes you buy twice as much. Need to use one coat quality paint. Trade paints are better but expensive.

Just don’t use it anywhere where’s it’s likely to get steamy or humid (such a bathrooms), our ceiling kept turning a light hue of pink every time we used the shower. :{

Used this in most rooms and after 3 years are still white , do you smoke?

Spot on, went to the Johnstone's trade centre and picked up their 'Covaplus Vinyl Matt' which they price matched me on from a Black Friday deal. Have been using it the past few days and it's brilliant. Much thicker than all of the other paints I've used before, dries quick and covers pretty well.

You're right, I'm thinking of the gloss. It's been a hard week.

The trade gear better than this especially if old dirty ceilings. Lack of vinyl content in this afraid. Screwfix has Leyland contact Matt £12plus vat a 10l. Johnstones Trade is great gear 2, Johnstone decor centres will price match online prices and local delivery free. Will cover a multitude of sins. Be vary about putting cheap contract Matt on top of old silk as it can craze. Bathrooms deffo get a durable Matt like Leyland Trade at Screwfix £24 per 5litre. Johnstone Decor centre do also match Leyland price. Once you work with trade gear you won't go back. It will save heaps of time as fewer coats and better.

Dulux paint is rubbish now to what it used to be like. It's so thin that all the paint has dripped off the brush before you reach the wall!

Yeah seems I missed that when I reread it again and again trying to figure it out, put it down to Saturday morning but old age might be a better reasoning :)

That as well as masonry paint fence paint etc all now withowrr vohc levels... Emulsion is also rubbish these days... When i was younger it was almost like a paste you could get away one coat.

It states in the description Flat finnish. :D sorry a bit deep for this time on a Saturday morning.

I think you are referring mainly to gloss paints and the chemicals that were once used to help stop discolouration. White gloss/satin paint turns yellow now if it's not exposed to light much. I'd recommend a waterbased paint called Zinnser Perma White for you skirtings, doors, etc, as it will never yellow. It can be a little tricky to use, as it can dry quite quick depending on the conditions, so going back and correcting drips can ruin the finish even more with brush marks. I've found a technique that gives a great finish though. Regular washing of you brush is essential to clean off drying paint, have a second person corrected drips closely after your coat or doing smaller sections at a time then going back yourself to correct drips, and finally have a spray bottle of water ready to give the painted area a quick misting if you need to correct drips or brush marks in the paint. You'll get a super-smooth finish doing this, but it can take quite a few coats to complete the job. Make sure you leave enough time to dry before applying another coat and it can take 14 days to fully cure so if you are doing skirtings prior to having a new carpet fitted then make sure you leave this amount of time before doing so. I think it's touch dry in something like 4 hours but all depends on the environment and conditions it's used in.

Agreed. I always get trade paint and I'm just a diyer. Its get more pigment in, it's thicker amd can be watered down slighty, you get better coverage. 2 coats are always enough. I've had to do 4 coats previously with retail paint, it's a massive con, as is paint for bathrooms and kitchens. Dulux decorator centres sometimes have 25% off, just keep an eye on their website for offers.

Just seen this in Canterbury even on the light and space stuff

Certain colours reduced in my local to. Got some bathroom coastal grey for £15, everywhere else is £22. Online also.

Didn't look to be honest... but there were lots of different shades of white in 5l. The different type of Dulux were on offer as well. I also bought the light and space 5l for £20. Which I thought was good. I suggest giving them a ring or maybe C&C.

List prices at DDC are usually a complete joke when compared to Brewer's or the DIY sheds. 10l DT Vinyl Matt (white) is £48.65 AFTER the 20% discount! That's more than the list price in Wickes, B&Q etc. 7.5l DT Weathershield masonry paint (PBW) £25.19 after 20% discount; available year-round for less at Wickes, Travis etc. The only stuff I buy from DDC is colour mixed stuff and some accessories, and only when they run the 20% off promos. I can only imagine they run a list price minus heavy trade discount model, similar to Travis, otherwise I can't imagine why anyone would buy from there.

Thanks, been a lurker for years. Always forget to post stuff I find!

We got exceptional coverage using dulux polished pebble grey. It really is good stuff. Almost got away with one coat. 2 should be sufficient if not covering over a dark uneven disaster. Be careful though. You really want all your tins from the same production batch (code is on lid). This is because the paint does vary between tins. We were told by b and q 'paint expert' that its not a problem for dulux as all consistent. This is just wrong. On the tin, it even states to mix all the tins together if using multiple tins for same job. By getting same batch we avoided this. If doing whole house, as long as you have matching paint for all paint used in each room this will be good enough, as you wont notice any variation when changing rooms. The other benefit of matching batch codes is touch ups. we have spare paint that will match down the road... *additional. £4/litre or less is the right price if you doing whole house. Any more is not good value. We got for less that this as was £18 for 5 litre tins at one point

Dulux is typically upto 13m2 per litre so measure up and depending if you buy regular or one coat will determine how many tins you need. I bought 5Ltr tins in Wickes last week at £22 with 15% off so not a bad price at £10 for 2.5ltr but it's not the cheapest I've seen them. Look for cashback and voucher code options too

Good price for Dulux. Says covers 32 square metres. Get your tape measure, work it out and allow for 2 coats.

Used to be that trade paint conformed to British Standards, whereas store paint could be made up to whatever spec a retailer asked for... retailer set the price, and manufacturer produced a mixture specifically for them and reduced the expensive additives, such as thickness and opacity, to match''... leaving something close to milk! Proper trade paint with Kite mark, still has to conform, retailers can sell what they like!

None in Stockport, don't even think they sell Dulux just Johnsons

Kitchen+, absolutely bloody awful stuff! You can't wipe it clean, nor can you get a nice neat finish should you go back over a stain or mark. Utterly pointless! Dulux Matt, again, one slight touch and the matt turns to silk, leaving a dire finish should light cast over the finish.
