Motion sensor night guard/torch - £5 : Homebase instore

Found 5th FebFound 5th Feb
These are great, motion sensor night light + detachable to turn into a torch. Usually £12+ on Amazon. Lowest I’ve seen is £8.99 on eBay
I have these. A few things I've found. They get very hot when they are plugged in to the point where I believe they are inherently faulty by design - I don't understand why they get so hot. I'm worried they are going to melt or catch fire or something - the heat can't be good for the battery.

Also - in moderate lighting, I found they will still switch on with movement which is annoying - needs to be pretty bright or they incorrectly think it's night-time. One of mine also keeps randomly going on and off every few seconds constantly whilst plugged in despite no-one being near it and nothing triggering the movement sensor - seems to have a mind of it's own.

As a torch they're great and they've worked when there has been a power cut.

I like thesehttps://www.homebase.co.uk/soft-blue-night-light_p223015

Are these blue ones plug in? Very little detail in the description.
I have a couple of the OP items, been listed quite a few times here. Loads in our store for ages now. Very bright and a bargain at a fiver. I have one in our bedroom so I can see when going to loo in middle of night, but it is so sensitive to movement I just need to fart enough to move the sheet and it comes on!
good find thanks op!
Loads in Irvine store. I bought 6 to give to family. Really good buy .

After a but if searching under tables I turned out the hole nappy bag and low and behold the tile and keys were at the bottom. Not sure about the sound insulation properties of pampers but even kids (2 and 4 years) with their hearing didn't hear it, so you know, it's got limitations.

The Tile pro’s are actually bigger all round than the Lapa. The tile mate slightly thinner (but slightly bigger length and width). The Tile slim is thinner but much bigger length and width. Also the lapa is louder than both the Tile mate and tile slim (not quite as loud as the Pro though).

Having had 4 Tiles I won’t buy another that’s all I can say but then again I haven’t replaced them with anything either but I would have bought the Lapa if it had been readily available at the time.

Takes a CR2032 so replaceable.I don't often lose things but recently I've found myself leaving things behind. I blame it on either age or stress. Either way if I walk out of range then now I'll be able to turn back around before I've gone too far. The other month I found myself getting 1.5 hours away from work before realising I had my work keys on me and my home keys were at work... So that was an extra 3 hours travelling that day.

And this was one of the biggest things they got feedback from us on. I personally wanted a replaceable battery at first. At the time, they had trouble getting them small/slim enough and still having powerful enough to make the blue-tooth work properly. Making them watertight with a replaceable battery would have made them bigger. There was also the question of making the business viable. Making cheap battery replaceable tiles wouldn't generate much future income. Cheap Chinese copies would soon follow, and they would have no business. So the two choices were a monthly subscription, or make the tile disposable.I prefer the disposable route now. The tile can get a fair bit of abuse and start looking a little worse for wear.We have three Tiles on the go at any one time. So it works out at less than £4 a month. The cost of replacing lost car/door keys never mind the stress and lost time searching, plus the peace of mind makes it worth the money.

All very valid points.

I would need 3 so the cost becomes too much. However I would pay more for a well functioning tile with a user replaceable battery or maybe some kind of exchange facility.

I would have thought the software is where you can protect/enhance the ip in the product.
afroylnt1 h, 46 m ago

The only down side is the 12 month tile life. You can actually use them longer, but you risk the chance of the battery dying just as you need it the most. Cheaper one's that can change battery's are not water proof. These tiles have saved countless arguments. My wife has a habit of leaving her keys anywhere but the key cabinet. We used tio spend many a morning turning the house upside down looking for them. BTW saying "where did you leave them last?" does not help! The tile can play a tune until you find it, show on your phone map screen, or has bars that show stronger(nearby) weaker(further away) etc.As others have said, other users track your tile, but are unaware. The data just updates your account. Press the tile and it also rings your phone (when she has lost that!)£15 for less arguments/stress is money well spent

Pretty sure they could fairly easily make the battery replaceable and I believe for commerical reasons they have decided not to; this attitude really puts me of spending any money on them at all.
Any half witted thief who stole your keys would just ditch the Tile Mate I'd imagine. Could be useful for lost keys of course.
