Sky Fibre Broadband unlimited 12Months contract £248.88 for existing customers via retention team

I found Sky retentions completely useless when I tried to haggle with them. All they could offer was a £5 discount on my ADSL broadnand. I told them I was leaving for Virgin media and they couldn't care in the slightest in keeping me as a customer. I subsequently moved to Virgin media for £33 a month with fibre 50mb broadband and anytime calls.
worth logging on to the Sky site to see what it offers. My fibre deal ended just before Black Friday, so while checking prices logged in to Sky mainly to see what my new bill would be. There was a "thinking of leaving?" link which I clicked - a few Q later (what other provider have you seen offers for etc.) and was offered 50% off for 12 months on a 12 month deal - no talking to anyone and better than my previous offer which had just ended. Happy to renew at that and none of the faff of pretending to leave but got a great email offer

Thing I'm most shocked about is that you got through to retentions.

at £19.49 on a 12months contract for 38MBPS connection, is unbeatable. Yes it only comes with PAYG landline, however with too many mobile phones lying around the house with unlimited calls on them, it is a cracking deal.

Also (look at the Questions) not terribly clear if they are "standard" size

Seems a good price op.. worth highlighting this is for a pair

I just signed up for it. OK, so the expected download speed will be more like 35mbps but it's still a great deal. Paying 12 months line rental up front will also save you £18.99 for the year :-)
If you enjoy solid connections at the correct speeds get a 3rd party router.
Mine lags like a 1 legged tortoise or drops out with home hub 6. Adding my r7000 as the router and keeping home hub as the modem = no dropouts and decent speeds (49mbps) on a 52mb connection. That's with 25 things connected to wifi as qos settings mean you can higher certain devices and lower priority others 🖒
Yes there is no Virgin in my area at all. At the town meeting Virgin representatives explained how the blown fibre works and how long it will take to be up and running. They are held up by getting permission to put in the trunk because it requires a permit to dig up the road which was under embargo because of nearby motorway works. So until then they have just been doing the micro trenching around the pavements laying the ducting and putting in some cabinets. In the number fiddling shakeup the contractor was replaced and they seem slightly more professional now.

That's their old system. Virgin now offer FFTP with their Project …That's their old system. Virgin now offer FFTP with their Project Lightning, it is blown fibre down plastic green ducting from the cabinet to the house. Then a box on the outside of the house converts to coax to go inside to the modem. It will provide speeds of 200Mbps to 300Mbps with a theoretical maximum of 1Gbps in the future. They've already laid the ducting on my street but the fibre won't be blown to the house until they have connected the cabinet to the trunk which will take a few months.

You must live in an area that has no Virgin Media footprint at all. Edit - (here I mean historically)

If VM have any HFC networks in your area (i.e. your street is a new street that wasn't there when they built the network, or for whatever reason they chose not to bother) then you will get coax.

Thus for most people project lightening will not bring FTTP. I know a lot of people automatically assume project lightening is installing FTTP however this is not the case. Originally (2016) VM said they were going to give FTTP to over 1 million new houses. This has been scaled back dramatically so if you are getting FTTP you are one of the lucky ones. Most project lightening connections are infill at this point in time.

I got that because I went for the M&S voucher offer which was an alternative to going through topcashback when I resubmitted my order as I figured a cashback was unlikely to track because the new order would be manually intervened with to make sure it went through correctly. You still did better than me because you got £60 more cashback, plus I had to make several phone calls to sort the problem.

I have to say that I like your style in the part I quoted! Tried to take your lead (asking twice) & low & behold second time I got a different answer!

isn't ee fibre really bad to use and with caps and throttling?

Horrendous! Avoid at all costs, can't wait until my contract is over
DONT DO IT. I'm on EE broadband and can't wait for the contract to finish. The throttling is absolutely horrendous, won't let me download anything at all which is P2P; instantly cuts download speeds to 0.01kb/s. The speeds are awful anyway, especially at peak times, the box they provide drops out all the time and god forbid should you want to speak to customer services, the worst I've ever known. I much preferred talktalk who were actually really decent, and even sky who I admittedly had small issues with, but nothing like this.

If your city isn’t offering vouchers yet, use our Register your Interest form to let us know that you are. Where does it say if outside the area you can still use the money?

From what I can see it says

On the form you will be given a choice of the 22 cities participating – please note that if your city is not listed, there are no plans for Connection Vouchers to be rolled out in your area at the current time.
