Some have mentioned that if you order with BT or others including transferring your phone number, it can prompt Virgin to make a better offer. Have people tried this and if yes how long after ordering do BT contact Virgin which prompts the call? I am only a few days in but could do without this hanging over me all month to get it sorted for another year. Many thanks

I put in my cancellation at the weekend and received a call from VM …I put in my cancellation at the weekend and received a call from VM Loyalty team today (are they different to Outbound Retentions?). The offer was £10 less than the operator when I cancelled who offered £58, but still £48.50 for Full House with 100mb BB and 2 boxes (one V6, one Tivo). I have declined the offer and they said the cancellation will go through and return mail boxes sent out to send back the kit. He wasn’t really negotiating, it was apparently the best he could do . So now hopefully another call with a better deal ... fingers crossed!

exactly the same conversation I had with the loyalty team yesterday...few weeks to go for me so hopefully something good comes along
I got VM last year through a referral deal which is coming up to 12 months, had 100mb internet, TV and Calls for £20pm! It was through someone on HUKD, then a call from VM.

Anything similar now?

Nobody got any decent referral deals at the moment ?

Do you mean referral? Refer a friend is £50 for referrer and the person you refer - Topcashback and Quidco generally offer more.

Has anyone experience of signing up to BT or another provider, including a phone number transfer, which has prompted a better deal from VM retentions after putting in your notice? If yes, how long after signing up to BT/the other provider are Virgin notified and the better deal offered please?

I am over a week into my cancellation period, two calls so far and still looking at around £47 for Full house with V6 and a separate TiVo. Last year I managed to get £28, so I am keen to get nearer that than the current offers coming through. Others seem to have achieved nearer the £28 from discussions on here and other forums.

Many thanks

Fourth person offered £56pm with a £30 credit, swearing blind that £30 was …Fourth person offered £56pm with a £30 credit, swearing blind that £30 was the absolute maximum credit they allow and that £72 was not possible.

same happened to me.. i think they read these forums...lol
You're lucky, the best I was offered for the same package was on my first call too, £68 per month and, when pushed, a £50 discount in the first month. By the 3rd and 4th calls it was £71 with no discount!
Well just to update the thread, I ended up calling 5 times. Each time the person I spoke to offered a different deal and always swore they couldn't do any better. The best deal I was offered was the one when I first cancelled, which still wasn't a patch on what others in this thread have. They initially offered 100mb broadband, full house TV and the weekend calls for £56pm with a £72 credit to flatten it out to £50pm if you average the credit out across the year. Then I didn't get the magic call, so called up nearer my cancellation date.
Can't remember what the first person offered, but it was worse than the above and he couldn't do any better.
Second person was much the same.
Third person seemed more arrogant and said the absolute best he could do was £57pm (?!) with no credit!
Fourth person offered £56pm with a £30 credit, swearing blind that £30 was the absolute maximum credit they allow and that £72 was not possible.
Last chap that I just spoke to offered £56pm plus a £50 credit and claimed his manager could only authorise a maximum £50 credit, so £72 wasn't possible.

I took it because it seems the best I'll get, even though it's worse than their initial offer and way worse than what others are getting.

I didn't mention the deals in here. Don't think it would do any good, as they all play dumb about deal that I've personally been offered before, let alone deals that other people have been offered.

Also shows that they all lie through their teeth. One says no credits are possible, then I get offered a £30 credit and told that's the maximum possible, then the next day get offered a £50 credit.

The arrogant guy even seemed to add on £1 per month to the standard "discount" rate that he gave me. Every other person I spoke to gave a standard "discounted" rate of £56pm then it was all about negotiating a credit after that. He changed it to £57pm and offered no credits at all, giving me the "that's the best you're gonna get mate" brush off.

Overall, the whole experience has left me exasperated and frustrated with Virgin Media, and somewhat resentful of the way their team handle renewals/cancellations.

If only they made things a bit more fair. Next year I'll be cancelling 30 days before my contract is up to avoid paying a month at the inflated full price and won't be waiting for the magic call. Shame you have to threaten cancellation at all though, just to get a reasonable monthly cost.

Is that at the beginning of a new contract, or can you do this after renewing? Only I'm getting naff all at the moment. Not even as good a deal as they offered me a month ago when I cancelled. 😯

Wow spoke to rentions 'mike' and he was very patronising and rude the attitude they have that they hold the monopoly is disgusting

After quoting the above offer

Currently paying £48.48 for 200mb broadband alone nothing else
Been with them 7 or so years
He said 38 for what i get now with a new 18 month contract best he can do

So when I said that's terrible customer value where as the live chat had just offered 40 quid with tv and phone !!
He said he will go along with disconnection
Disconnection has been booked
And feel i should complain with the rudeness i recieved after being on hold for 20 mins

There's a department beyond retentions, which you only get put through to when another company puts through a request to take the number.
I went through all this last year, I signed up to BT with a totally fabulous and cracking deal which I eventually cancelled under the cooling off period after Virgin offered to pay my line rental for the year and maintain my current deal.
My current deal is unlimited phone calls, 100mb download speed, medium+ television package for £25 a month. Am not looking forward to the aggravation of having to go through all this again shortly, it's hard work every 12 months.
I think they have been fully trained to say no....armed with full details of internet usage and tv usage quoting exactly what you use and say won't get a better deal anywhere...I for one cannot afford this any more...free view ( I'm reluctant to say ) here I come...😞
okay, thank you, I will wait a week.
