Some of the 1.4 Vauxhall turbo engines now require Dexos 1 generation 2 oil, rather than generation 2, to prevent Stochastic Pre Ignition (SPI). Maybe have a check first.

Good oil. Used castrol edge 5w30 for my honda crv and have to top up 1 litre of oil every 3-4k miles. The same with Mobil1 Formula 3000. Decided to go with shell ultra ag as I noticed in the invoices the previous owner of the car was using this oil. Besides price and reviews were tempting. Done 4k mainly motorway miles with this oil - no top up required

Just tried, they won’t price match whilst this promo is running. However, still cheaper when you buy two items from Halfords with this promotion. But for sole items, stick to the price match!

Freddo_V_

That's definitely not for use on cars though, unless you want to damange the clear coat and/or paint

I saw it online and have been doing it for at least a year. No issues at all (not advertised in store though)

Halfords have a tablet in-store at the engine oils, stick in your licence plate number and it'll tell you what your car needs. I got this one last week as it was the best deal they had but I had around 6/7 options to choose from.

I've got a three year old Suzuki Celerio SZ4. The wife's got a Celerio too, as has my daughter-in-law & brother-in-law! Other than the fact they have absolutely zero street cred, they are wonderful, cheap, zero tax, reliable, spacious, super-efficient, little cars. Just today I filled up the car after doing 504 miles. Brimming it, the most I could squeeze in before the pump cut-out was 31.0 litres of unleaded. That calculates out as 73.16 mpg & that's not abnormal in summer (it's typically 68-ish in winter). The car manages to pull off this trick using a combination of a high engine compression ratio (11:1), 1.0 L engine, low weight (845 kg), high tyre pressures (38 psi), a thin 0W20 engine oil & my intelligent right foot! But don't just take my word for it. Have a read what others are saying. We Celerio owners maybe a select few but we generally seem to be happy bunnies... https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/suzuki/celerio/hatchback/owner-reviews

davelister301

76mpg! Jesus, that is more than double what I get in my Astra 1.6 What model Suzuki do you drive? I think its time I got myself an economical car - I'm sick of putting 50 odd quid a week in the tank (mad)

Their high ZDDP products would be unnecessary in my nineties engines I'd say, I'll maybe try Castrol oils again in future for my boosted cars; the Edge Ti I put in her 1.2L Micra after a flush (controversial?) has made it feel as great as a 1.2L non turbo can XD

ansonuk1

Sorry I've not got a Doctorate in Advanced Lubricant Technology. Try going back to bed and getting out again this time on the right side

Joe90_guy

If you had been paying attention, you would have read that virtually nothing that goes into engine oil is actually manufactured here. It's the same for your TV, your phone, your laptop, your kitchen appliances & endless other stuff. Having said that, the two biggest GLOBAL (note that word!) suppliers of engine oil, Shell & Castrol, have a strong connection to the UK, make pots of money & pay UK taxes. And they manage to do this without making stuff in this insignificant, manufacturing pygmy of an island. I'm sorry if this doesn't accord to your revolutionary, post-truth, narrow minded political world view but it's how it is. Get over it & stop holding the rest of us back!

ansonuk1

Is this oil UK produced ?

Joe90_guy

Amsoil are really well known in the US. If I remember correctly, it was founded in the '60s by a USAF pilot who decided to put military grade aircraft lubricant oil in his automobile. Unsurprisingly, the PAO-based oil was infinitely better than the really grotty mineral oils that were the norm back then (especially in their nut-numbing winters). Whilst Amsoil were the first to actually do it, it was Mobil (with Mobil 1) who capitalised on the full synthetic idea & grew the market. I never had any direct dealings with Amsoil but this is what I've gleaned over the years. They're primarily a small, niche blender which buys in its raw materials & tech. Their products aren't necessarily 'approved' in the way most lubes are. For example they have oils that contain high levels of ZDDP which fall foul of the ILSAC/API specs. However their retail advertising presence in the US is HUGE relative to their minnow status! Just look at what they do on YouTube. Are their oils any good? Yes. Would they do any harm? Probably not but with unapproved products, you never can tell. Would I believe the hype? Absolutely not! Would I buy an Amsoil oil? At those prices?? Never in a million years!

Thanks for the tip. To be fair I normally use a local smaller petrol station and don’t visit larger ones anymore. That said I’ll be sure to pop my head in when I pass a local one next time.

weebigal

You need to look by the HGV pumps. A lot of stations with dedicated HGV pumps have them, I've never seen at just a standard station. This is because many trucks have been using adblue for over10 years while it is still relatively new in cars.

jouster

Good to know. These are perfect for those who are happy to fill at home Never seen a tank at a fuel station myself but will certainly keep an eye out going forward.

Yep . Jet wash with water then 50/50 polar wash in the little white bottle. Hand mit all over . Jet wash to rinse , them one cap of polar seal ... microfibres dry only polar seal once a month. Works great. The only thing I got was an extension hose for the pressure washer which makes things easier. I’m sure a snow foam would be good but that little white bottle does me fine (y) 🏼.

ModernFamilyUK

Do you use the attached foam thing? The small one?

Monk28

Hi. I’ve got the same set up , works a treat

united4eva

As mentioned above, this is a good price. But do research and consider the Bilt Hamber Autofoam. Its brilliant. It also works really really well as a touchless wash... my car was filthy over the summer and I gave it a going over with BH Autofoam with snow foam lance the results were great and I didnt have time to follow up with a handwash but it was still very clean. Can also be used as effectively if not moreso, with a pump spray. Using with a pump spray it also lasts much longer! muz379

"Washing" a car in 35 mins for £10 they are most likely going to cover your car in swirl mark . Even if they are not using sponges they will be dragging grubby grit riddled microfiber cloths across your paintwork . A surefire way to create swirl marks . Just cos you can't see them or don't know what you are looking for does not mean they are not there. For a runaround it's no Biggie , but if you have a decent car or care about resale value dulling the paint with swirl marks is a big no no
