No longer worth buying they consume far too much electricity.
If you but one I would suggest buying a led bulb.
The bulb will most probably cost more than the light but your meter will thank you.

Every one that I've ever owned of this style has had a safety pressure switch on the bottom which cuts the power unless it is sat on a firm surface and fully upright.

Argos have probably upped the price of it so that they can have a "massive reduction" when they reduce it at the end of season (when they want to shift these out and start selling fans)

What’s the difference between a halogen air fryer and a bog standard air f …What’s the difference between a halogen air fryer and a bog standard air fryer? There’s none I’m guessing.

This is an halogen oven - not an air fryer in the original sense.
A "bog standard air fryer" has some rotating parts to turn the cooking food.
These halogen ovens are much cheaper and I think the manufacturers like people to think they are the more expensive items, which they are not.
Thanks op purchased!!

Being a sad middle aged man with nothing better to do. I have worked out that due to our current oven being 2.5kw and this being 1.3kw if this is used for approx 160 hours of it's life then it has paid itself!

Sick of the wife turning the oven on for a garlic baguette , having to wait 12 minutes for it to get to temp , where it looks like the time that it gets up to heat on this is half that!

These are an old model (last years I believe). These are fairly flimsy but still slightly better than the current model. Easy to set up by just twisting two screws in the bottom. 400W is enough to keep me warm in an old listed building with a light coat on. I used to sell these up until recently and had a return rate of around 35% so KEEP THAT RECEIPT! Depending on how they are transported the the bars are fairly easy to break. Some were DOA (usually only 1 bar working) which explains the returns.

Can be found on the market for ~£14 (they are buying for between £6-8) but i'd absolutely avoid buying from markets unless you know you can return!
Got a halogen 1200W from Wilko when it was £10. Warms you up very quickly. Tried it on wet laundry and it soon began steaming. It's the infra red than heats the water up perhaps like a microwave.
Did I guess right?
Might have little effect on other surfaces.
Will be as economical(?) as any other electric heater with 400W / 800W / 1200W elements. No thermostat so may cost more to run than a similary-rated but thermostat-equipped alternative - assuming the desired temperature is ever reached.

These are very good quality. Its your brain that needs rewiring. Had a similar one for last two years. Still going great. Just because it's not big brand or expensive , it is not poor quality. Same sells for much more in many big supermarkets.

Isn't it more efficient to have a fan heater blowing warm air around the …Isn't it more efficient to have a fan heater blowing warm air around the room rather than radiatiing heat?

To warm just your body, halogen heaters are good as they radiate heat. To warm a room for short periods of time, a fan heater such as a ceramic fan heater are best. And to heat the whole room over a longer period of time, oil radiators and convector heaters are best.
Back in stock
I have one of these. As others have said, the bars soon start to fail. Just one left working on mine now but that's all I ever used. Sitting under my desk, it's all you need to keep warm. Also, using only one bar will cost about 5p an hour to use.
Isn't it more efficient to have a fan heater blowing warm air around the room rather than radiatiing heat?
I got one of these a few weeks ago and its a great heater:
argos.co.uk/pro…673

Immediate heat and also has oscillating or stationary setting.
Using my smart meter I can see it costs circa 12p per hour to run on high (1000w) so presumably 6p on 500w.

Having examined it closer now, the one thing I am not happy with is the extender ring which does not seem to be very sturdy and if not careful could be quite unsafe in use and easily knocked off with the heating top as it doesn't sit very firmly or lock in any way to the other part, just lies on a small rim . The ring is easily distorted and could leave gaps where heat will leak as well.
Edited by: "Patr100" 1st Oct 2017
Got email this morning saying it was ready to collect and only ordered last night. It's a beast, far bigger than our last one even without the extension ring and racks allow 2 levels of cooking and an oil sprayer as well.
Bargain.
Thanks again for posting this deal.
Had a non-halogen air fryer before and the kids much preferred the food but it stopped working and not worth repairing. This is a quarter of the cost, have gone and bought it so many thanks for posting the deal.

We now use this much more than main. This thing really cooks a whole chicken nicely in about 1 hour and doesn't burn the top of it (like our oven can). I also like my bacon crispy and this does it perfectly again without burning it. Personally I think 12L is plenty big enough. You can get a whole chicken or Sunday roast in there with a little room to spare. Also you're not having to heat the extra space, which I assume involves more time and energy. But if you do want the 17L option, just buy the extender ring on eBay for about £7. In many cases there is no difference between this one and the 17L one other than the extender ring and sometimes an extra 100 watts
