My immediate thought

I totally agree with you. I wouldn't buy a helmet that didn't pass British standards either. I was just making fun that the only reference to anything safety related on their description is 'sturdy'. It just made me smile

I didn't see that when I looked at the site. I'm just always very careful when buying safety equipment that my life may depend on. I wasn't denigrating the original post in the slightest.

Compliant with British and European safety legislation and standards? It states that it's 'waterproof and sturdy'. What more do you want from a cycle helmet?!

Halfords helmet light £10 - free c&c

Bit of a saving on the rrp but a great small helmet light which is Pretty bright. Was looking for a small cheap light for kids helmet and this is perfect.

Increased visibility reduces chance of not being seen means less chance of being in an impact.

It doesn't make them safe Your life your choice. I just don't get why someone would risk that

Comes with an attachment for handlebar too. Light on helmet has enabled me to see plenty of things which could be missed with a handlebar light and therefore prevented me from testing the impact resilience of my helmet. Get what your saying though but it's a big can of worms considering many helmets now available with integrated camera mounts.

I wouldn't attach anything to your helmet ever - whether or not the majority 'breaks off' upon contact. Not only can it be lodged into your skull, but helmets are designed to SLIDE to reduce the force and trauma on the neck. Helmets don't just protect your skull, they protect your neck and especially spinal column from shearing damage (and the resultant potential paralysis or death). I'm not be a neurologist... just a Neuroscience PhD

Thanks OP wondering if this would be ok for Lapland ?

Thx for highlighting and for sharing the video!

Under distance selling regs I think you can have a right to return if unsuitable, if it gives you hamster cheeks and your head moves when the helmet is turned thats a good start, always wear earplugs as no helmet is that quiet it will protect your hearing.

Just dropping a (decent) helmet won't damage it according to the arai guy on Jay Leno. You need your head to be in there too.

Good find - my personal preference is to buy a helmet in the shop. Helmets only last one big knock (e.g. drop off a table) and then need to be replaced, with online ordering you just don't know how well the helmet is being handled.

Agrius Rage SV Warp Motorcycle Helmet (Pinlock Ready) £28.49 w/code delivered @ Ghostbikes

Already a reasonable price at £29.99 delivered, but if you add code TMIX it knocks it down to £28.49. Has a decent SHARP rating at 4 stars. Reviews are also good. Available in B… Read more

There's never 'enough' to spend on a helmet..> Everyone will have a different opinion of 'enough'. You spend what you can afford. I'd rather this than a third hand shoei with a history I've no idea about that could have been dropped down the stairs 10 times and been used to swat flies against a wall. Would I buy one? No, I'm lucky I can afford more, but as I said, I'd buy this over another of unknown origin.

Most if not all the time you’ll be riding, not crashing, so fit, comfort, noise levels etc are as important as any crash test. Arai helmet testing is not based on the flawed sharp rating tests, hence the ratings they get. Anyway, no I wouldn’t buy any helmet I hadn’t tried on first, regardless of cost.

It's worth noting that the SHARP testing is only done at 19 mph so if you plan on going faster than that, might be worth investing a bit more :S . The fit can be one of the biggest features so it's worth trying in a shop beforehand. That said, it's a LOT of helmet for the price. Polycarb, sun visor, pinlock and removable liner are usually found north of £100. So it's either a really good deal or they cheaped out somewhere?

My point was that it is widely considered that arai (expensive) make good lids, but most (11 out of 14) do not achieve 5 stars. Other poster said only go for 5 stars as a minimum. So, either cost matters,or Sharp rating matters, but not both.

My agv k3 cost about £150 more and has the save rating, but it's a great fit for my head shape

Good deal - I have two of these in other colours. Very comfortable helmet if you have a fat head like me. Only minor downside is the straps are a bit weird and don't sit flat against your face - but you get used to it.

lol so funny, my son will luv it! thx

I have some idea. I used to work for Which? Magazine in their research and testing laboratory. I have seen these tests done first hand and it is frightening. In my experience the cheap novelty helmets, much like the cheap novelty car seats you can buy in places like Halfords do extremely badly. So I am playing the odds, I absolutely might be wrong on this one and if you or other people choose to buy it that’s absolutely their prerogative, but I certainly won’t be buying it.

"Perhaps this helmet would have too" So by your own admission...neither do you have any idea what you're talking about

You literally have no idea what you’re talking about. If you rigorously test a helmet they do something called a kerb test for example where they recreate the impact of hitting the kerb and while some helmets deal with that impact well others do not, at all. Also a friend of mine at age 7 foolishly rode into the road and was hit by a car, ultimately smashing his head on the kerb. There is no doubt that the helmet saved his life. Perhaps this helmet would have too but I wouldn’t pin my hopes on a £10 novelty helmet, but each to their own.

Ok (party) (party) (party) (party) (party)

I can't speak for Surrey, being a filthy Northerner, but I do know that up here the vast majority of cycle infrastructure, especially in towns and cities, is shockingly badly thought out. A combination of cycle lanes positioned where deliveries are most likely to block them, forcing the cyclist to constantly rejoin the flow of traffic, side-junctions where the through-cyclist is required to give way to traffic joining the road, but the through-motorist does not, endless dreaded "cyclists dismount" signs and sections where you have to dodge pedestrians who aren't interesting in keeping out of the cycle lanes. The result is a higher level of risk of collision and significantly increased journey times. Honestly, it's safer (and quicker) to ride in the flow of traffic than to be constantly joining and leaving the flow and, of course, no less than the cars on the road, cyclists have somewhere to go and don't want to stop every 100yds to give way to cars. That's not to say that there isn't good cycling infrastructure, but the vast majority up here was clearly built by non-cyclists to tick a box on a form somewhere without any consideration as to who might want to use it.

Road tax: hasn't existed since 1936 when it was replaced by VED, and of course not all cars pay this - the most efficient, non-polluting will pay zero and I'm pretty confident that bikes fall into this category. So, arguably, they do pay it at the prevailing rate of zero. Roads are paid for through central taxation and there is no link between VED, fuel tax, insurance tax and road maintenance or development Fuel: Correct, bikes do not use fuel and fuel is taxed predominantly to fill the central exchequer's coffers and partly as an environmental consideration where the most inefficient vehicles pay more, as well as heavy users, so the system is more fair than, say, a flat tax. Based on a consideration of both pollution and wear and tear to the roads, I think it's safe to say that cyclist's cake and coffee are probably correctly not taxed as road fuel duty Insurance: This is a more interesting topic and has some good arguments. Personally, I do have insurance as well as legal cover, but I guess I am very much an exception. I also don't crash into cars, nor do I run red-lights. And as for the last point, have a read of this: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2011/aug/15/cyclists-paved-way-for-roads

Something really uncomfortable about toddlers' helmets being called "Me2"...although I'm sure the point's been made already. There is/maybe was an independent shop near me called "Isis", years before it became associated with unthinkable deeds. Very unlucky shop owners
