High 5 energy gel box of 10 mixed flavour for £5 @ Halfords

Not a bad price for a box of 10. Amazon do sometimes have boxes of 20 on offer for about £12 so these are cheaper yet. They also have 8 energy bar boxes for £5 as well.

I’m always finding them packets in my bag or washing machine, i was casual shorts tee shirt on my drop handle the other week with a mate taking him up Holme moss one pocket iPhone / keys and a couple of these high5, it popped, made a right mess (mad)

So do I, I always put mine in my pocket, sticky but my problem.

There's absolutely no excuse not to do exactly that. The kit goes in the wash after every ride, so it doesn't matter if the pocket gets a bit sticky.

Bugger! Forgot to check them out. :(

Me too, not sure why cyclists can’t put them back in their pocket till they get home or to a bin ..

Out of interest, what average speeds are you getting on 2-3h bike rides only using fat metabolism?

dumbest and most uneducated comment ever

That's the main reason most people are unhealthy in modern times, I wish folk like you could think before you spoke. I intermittent fast every day, never had any headaches. Your lack of knowledge a common sense is becoming tedious, so I will bid you farewell. Edit: I've just realised you don't know what fasting is, and yet your making comments on it... CardboardCutout "That's some risky advice considering 'hitting the wall' or 'the bonk' is a horrible experience" I'm thinking maybe you didn't read the articular as it puts "via fat metabolism" before "via breakdown of glycogen into glucose, followed by glycolysis" But either way my point is you don't have to rely on glycogen stores. This is how Chris Froome manages his diet. As a side not, and nothing to do with anything here at carbohydrate central, cancer cells can only survive on glucose. Go glucose (highfive)

You're right, I don't. But I know how ketosis works (highfive)

Oh I only buy the caffeinated ones as the none-caffeinated don’t seem to work as good or quick. Don’t like running with a hydration pack as it just extra weight and I’m slow enough as it is (lol)

Hydration pack.. I'l avoid because they're caffeinated. I'm ok with the normal ones (always have at least a few), but if I'm knackered, these just make me feel worse!

I agree for the most part, but these are easier to take on during a race

IKR! or just bake your own bar with peanut butter, raisins, milk and oats

Hard to carry a few cups of water and a bunch of bananas when running long distances (lol)

They even have them up in Scotland. I did the Cambridge version this year & it was a pretty decent set up. It was significantly better than "Bike Events" but don't rely on each feed station having what it is advertised to have (only the first had gels, the rest ran out & the 3rd feed station didn't have a track pump as it was taken by car to help someone out). RideLondon 100 was still by far the best!

Not always easy to motivate yourself to get out in the cold weather so entering stuff like this is a good way to give yourself a target. Heat

That's the spirit! Get out there anyway (y)

Mainly the south and midlands, but up north we get Rochdale, Peak District and Leeds. wales have a couple too.. been two years running to the Rochdale one end of January, it is truely horrendous weather (snow, sleet, hailstones, rivers, windy, cold, wet, sun out), but I've signed up again..

My wife bought a box of these recently. Note that a third or so of the gels are a caffeine enriched shot. (Thats what the little green band at the bottom of the rightmost gel says). May not appeal to everyone.

Great deal!

There was a recent offer for a box of 24 high five gels for not much more than this(£8.99?). Cartainly better value than tesco or H&B where i first bought a single SiS gel for 2.50, or 3 for a fiver on 'offer'.

That's why I started on gels! My 2nd half marathon and choked on a jelly baby - High5 gels only now! (highfive)

Never sure why those who dislike these products come on commenting sayin they don't work/ taste horrible, waste of money etc etc the end of the day we we are all different for me a couple of energy gels a piece of flapjack and a banana is all I need for a 30 mile off-road bike event. the high5 are far sweater than other brands, sis to me are horrible compared, cold sick consistency (excited) . clif bars are really tasty but expensive ote good but expensive . just remember try the products before your big event, I tend to like the high5 products especially the tabs to flavour the water, Isojel and the recovery products, but the energy sachets are likea laxative :o

Running isn't about 'running hard enough' that's a sure way to injury(especially as I'm in my 40's) I run around 80% of my monthly miles at a slow/steady pace, unless I am training for a particular event each of these runs will cover 7 miles in an about an hour, easily achievable without water, yes it may be slightly more comfortable taking in a bit of water but the inconvenience of having to run around carry that water negates this. The rest of my monthly 'quality' miles are done on the track or hill repeats so water can be left on the ground.

You obviously aren't running hard enough! I lose about a kg in water every hour when running at tempo pace and will drink about 400ml per hour to try and combat the loss. Yeah you can avoid water when doing shorter runs but performance and recovery is better. YMMV as we are all individuals.
