Oh dear!!!!

Anyone care to provide an opinion on the iTunes versions? Are the discs better?

Without seeing the setup and being 100%, that may have been an issue with HDCP between the 4k media and your cable/device.

just a small note, i have 4k tv and 1080 projector, and a 4k player, so i borrowed the 4k version of the movie, it was nice on my 55" 4k tv, but failed to project somehow on my hd projector. might be my cable was too long, so i decided to buy blueray version of the movie. works fine both on tv and projector, details are not miles different on any screen below 55" screen to my opinion. voted hot !!!

6 Movie Boxset: The Hobbit Trilogy and Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu Ray £23.98 Delivered @ zavvi (£21.68 if you use code DM10BOX)

Theatrical versions of the movies (while I love extra scenes they always felt too much in these movies). Edit: £21.68 if you use code DM10BOX

Can or can't? This was filmed in 2K anyway. All you're missing is the HDR dynamic colour range and I'm not sure such an extensively graded colour palette would benefit.

Even Rambo is getting a 4K release and we still can watch the best trilogy ever in uhd.

Ok ill rephrase. About 1 to 2 weeks ago. Sorry dont no exact day and time he last watched one Tbh i didn't even know terrarium tv was down. Personally i dont use it . I just let me son use it in his bedroom which is why i said at the minute but anyway what im trying to say is its possible to watch for free :D

Because you said "at the minute", which to me is in the present?

Why would i lie about something like that you odd ball A week or 2 ago he was watching harry potter on it. Its only gone down recently (y)

These aren't, as far as I know there isn't a 4k version of these films.

Yeah, watched a few, hopefully get around to watching more of them, probably not until my son is old enough too!

Is this available in 4k?

Thanks. Maze Runner Trilogy bundle looks good at £8.99 too.

That’s the other one that tempted me (dc) I told myself my son may watch h it one day (good justification for buying almost anything) have you watched any of them? I didn’t know Lotr was sd. Feel a bit cheated as will prob be using 8k tv by time I get round to watching it. Blu rays are probably better as have commentary and extras!

I love the book..... Based on the Hobbit Trilogy, PJ's next commission will be to turn the "Minute Waltz" into a 4 hour spectacular.

These are bum numbing running time - at least the LOTR extended Editions included stuff in the books and it was interesting. Nothing interesting here. Somebody did a Fan Edit of all three films closely following the book - the running time was 4 hours and flowed so much better.

The Telltale games (ie Back to The Future) are usually a decent bet. I don’t personally buy games solely for trophies if I’m honest, but I’ve got a platinum for every Telltale season I’ve played..

Any quick platinum trophies ?

Yeah same here, got dozens still unplayed but from all the sales I find the Flash Sales harder to resist and best value on the whole. I’m yet to finalise purchase (got so many games can’t remember if I’ve already purchased Resi 0, need to check when I get home) but I’m looking at 5 or 6 games for £20 from Canadian store, that value is hard to beat.

Cheers mate!

Unfortunately not - DLC has to be the same region as the main game unless the DLC is standalone (which it isn't in this case).

I had a look at the offer on Amazon.it, but the versions in the deal are not the extended ones (unless you want to buy them individually), so not really comparable. Some good deals there, though.

Actually, I think that may be the limited edition version.

I did not see the film's originally at cinemas then I watched extended as I wondered what the hype was about. Having seen the standard blu rays 18 months ago as they were like a fiver for the trilogy, I am now prepared to wait until they come out on UHD blu ray. That and the matrix and gladiator.

I've got a 4k setup but could be a long wait for those because I don't think they've been confirmed yet. But having never seen the extended editions myself I thought I might as well bite at this price.

Cheers op...hobbit at this price...ordered ta.

Okay fair comment. The quality of blu ray is unsurpassed. At this price, I would still wait for the uhd version, which incidentally has the blu ray as separate disk. But I can understand why you would want this box set especially now with the 15 Percent code

You can get The Hobbit 3D Extended Box Set but it costs nearly as much as this.

I bought the extended SD version of this pack before Christmas. Google sold it for a fiver. I already have the Blu-ray of the theatrical version, at which point you wonder if the extra £30 is worth it.

£50 seems to be a bargain for the physical discs, at least this site gave me that impression: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/middle-earth-6-film-collection-extended-edition-the-hobbit-trilogy-the-lord-of-the-rings-trilogy-blu-ray-amazon-4999-2832695 So this is hot from me

Best option is to buy the extended blu-ray and then sell the code for the downloadable version. Still go for a decent amount on ebay

Just been speaking about getting the bluray but it's pretty ridiculous how expensive it is. I definitely prefer the extended editions but my gf doesn't want to watch them one after another which is literally half a day running time (lol)

Thought about getting this last time it was down to around this price. Then I realised I didn't really want the extended editions or The Hobbit, so just bough the standard length HD LOTR set for a fiver.

2K is 2048x1080 and typically cropped to 1998×1080. So not that much better than HD at 1920x1080. I doubt anyone would be able to tell at normal viewing distances.

Remember as well that official 2k isn't HD(1080p) and official 4k isn't UHD (2160p) so a 2k master is better quality than HD, but still not near UHD

LOTR was filmed on 35mm but then scanned-in for digital post processing at 2K. The Hobbit was "filmed" digitally at 5K but then downsized to 2K for post processing. It would require a lot of rework on grading and digital SFX to produce a native 4K of either. They would most likely just run it through an upscaler instead.
I believe the SFX were rendered in 2K so would need to be upscaled.
I believe you're right, and PJ is not willing to work on a 4k release. There's an interesting article on recent films and masters here http://gadgetflux.net/list-of-4k-mastered-hollywood-movies/

Its a great price for the set. I enjoyed the performances (especially Freeman) and the expansion of the universe but so much was unnecessary linking to lotr is spoiled what could have been something really special. Hated the Legolas bullocks stuffed in

Word of warning, I ordered this on the 20th via Prime and set for expedited delivery and it's still not arrived. I just got an email saying the revised delivery date will be the 3rd of Dec. I'm not generally bothered about fast delivery, but for this, I actually need it by the 29th and that's not going to happen.

These book should have been split into 2 90 minute films (at most), with a few little extra world building LOTR setup bits added in and fundamentally should have been aimed more at kids, like the book

I can't be 100% sure, but the Amazon listing title says it's blue ray 3d. Human error aside, I would say yes. If it arrives and it isn't then you could return it without hassle.

Quite the contarary, I (and many others would argue) that Jackson completely sullied the legacy of his original films (a la George Lucas) by attempting to shoe horn a story which had very few ties to the LOTR. When Tolkein originally wrote "The Hobbit", he wasn't aware he was going to actually write the trilogy so during the writing process of LOTR he came up with The concept of making the ring Bilbo finds "The One" ring. The visuals, sets and soundtrack were great but that doesn't make up for the bad pacing, awful action scenes that hold no weight, unfocused character development and attempting to stretch out a children's novel (which is about a quarter the size of ONE of the trilogy) into THREE films. Argh - I''ll go back to my cave now
