Total bargain as most places have the doorbell 2 on offer at £129 so it’s like you are getting the spot for free!!!

Definitive answer, as of very recently amazon has adopted the ring doorbell skill so it will in fact chime and even warn for movement across all your echo devices. You can see the camera on the show and spot but can not as yet talk back although that’s expected to be updated imminently. I’ve been researching and it does way way more than I thought (y) 🏻

sheffield788

It sounds like it is supported by all alexa type of devices. If you have a group of alexa devices i do not know if all of them will ring or only one, I guess you set up what you want. With regards to talking back via Alexa, it seems it only works with the Spot and the Show devices. I read about this yesterday, I do not know how it works as I do not have a ring device. Check on Ring skills on Amazon, it will tell you more there.

I play on the Xbox on Siege and never noticed a change. Ping is around 9-15 on 37Mb Fibre

bouttime2

And I wonder what that does to the ping/latency in a house of gamers.?!

amitsap

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

JimDut

I don’t really find the zoom and follow useful, it can be a little slow to zoom on the person and when it tracks, can be too slow so misses them as they walk by. I know even though it zooms & tracks you can pinch out to see the full screen, so it’s not like you loose the footage of the person. I find it rarely spots the person via the facial recognition, but that may be down to my positioning, I’m not sure. Don’t get me wrong on the highest quality setting (400Gb per month data!) the quality is outstanding and the ability to maintain that quality to around x1 to x2 zoom is great. So all in all, not sure the extra money is worth it.

amitsap

Why in your view, does the IQ not offer any advantage? Thought, the zooming and following a face would be an advantage?

OK thanks for the confirmation, have a look at the smartthings support forum perhaps someone says how to manually overrride the firmware on it with the official Samsung one as I can't imagine it being any different in terms of hardware from the Samsung hub apart from the software

Theo_Doukanaris

Yh I'm pretty sure the only thing which could be used outside the subscription is the sensor.

Cuddl3s

Thank you for replying so quick, So i take it that means that the hub can't be used with sensors outside of Vodafone own brand and outside Vodafones ecosystem? Sorry for the bother just was really hoping this was the vanilla Samsung smart things hub as it would of been great buy at 50 if you can use it without Vodafones subscription.

Theo_Doukanaris

Can confirm that it is linked. Tried everything

Cuddl3s

Hi can you please tell me if you received this item, does the smartthings hub work with other samsung/xiaomi sensors, and if it is a genuine unbranded Samsung unit without any Vodafone bloatware? I'm asking as the kit is now half price. Thanks

Joeb359

thanks. i guess those cons come with a wireless set up. perhaps the Arlo 2 have better cameras or even another company

thelargeportion1

I have an Arlo Pro setup. It's a doddle to install, but the image quality on the Pro (better than the system advertised here) is not fantastic and is in no way as good as some of the better wires solutions around. Pros: Easy setup Completely wireless Good app and easy to access recordings No monthly fee Decent night vision. Multiple users can use the app Compatible with IFTTT Cons: Image quality isn't great (it doesn't, for example, get a reg plate from 7m away). Netgear's servers are located far, far away meaning it can really lag (ours are about 5-7 seconds behind live, so two way conversation is virtually impossible). Very often, it'll take multiple attempts to connect to the camera live meaning you'll miss the incident you were notified about Perhaps of more concern, there have been increasing instances of server downtime recently. It's meant no notifications and no recordings during these 'down' periods. If I could do it again, I'd pay for a quality wired system to be installed.

POE would always be better, no wifi issues and no issues such as signal degradation on long cable runs if you go down the analogue route. I wouldn’t recommend anything I haven’t used or had experience with personally but I imagine this kit should be fine being a Foscam or have a look at the AHD wired kits from Hikvision. They can be had for around the £200 mark such as this: https://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/hikvision-hiwatch-1080p-4-x-dome-camera-kit-3749.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-YTR1d3R3gIVTLHtCh0aeAGyEAQYASABEgJ2n_D_BwE I’m currently using a 4 channel Ezviz XC5 NVR with three generic 1080p cameras I bought from China though any Onvif camera will work fine. I would recommend Foscam FI9900P cameras, they’re excellent and have a super wide viewing angle but they’re pricey at £90-100 each.

you could buy everything separately, so DVR on its own, then your own choice of cameras. you will struggle to find PTZ kit for your £250 budget

I received mine on the weekend and I managed to set it up eventually. Just follow the instructions on the app, One thing I didn't do to start with was pressing the reset button when it asked to do as I thought the camera was already ready. I'm really not happy with the permissions that are required to set up though especially location information, that and contact info and such Why would it need these? These camera's need to be made for LAN use only, especially as this has an SD slot so can record locally. Security is very worrying. I don't think I will be using mine.
