This is smaller than the Nacon, so it fits smaller hands better.

Daltone

It was, I'm not sure you can say it still is.

Its not only for kids, for anyone really and works on the ps3 as well

Hori is a desirable and collectable brand. I have sold countless PS1 and SNES controllers for quite high prices. My all time fav was the SGB commander.

turbobuddah

I don't like mine personally, bit too small for using as a main controller, however it is extremely useful and affordable for trophy hunting. Get it out whenever there's a coop or grindy trophy (looking at you borderlands 2)

Thanks for everyone’s help. I’ll probably look at getting a cheap 3rd party one of Amazon/eBay. Good idea to get an extension :)

RandomUser42

All the official Nintendo GameCube controllers are very pricey. They were £25 new when Smash came out, but sold out quickly. I think various 3rd party controllers are cheaper, especially old used ones, as they are not desirable like the official ones. You can get some Chinese ones off eBay for £5-10 (saw a twin pack for £10), reviews suggest they work, but the quality will be lacking. If you are really struggling for cable length you can get "Gamecube Controller Extension Cables" off eBay, Amazon, etc.

MikeyG1

probably better off getting a used one off ebay

sammy_zammy

Yeah, that’s what I’d found - controllers are either USB, have short cables or are expensive or out of stock :(

MikeyG1

I believe the ones Nintendo ones actually made used a game cube connector instead of the usb because they required an adapter to work with the switch. I believe this is the one but it is extremely expensive, even more so than I remember it. https://www.game.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product2_10151_10201__44____ProductDisplayErrorView?productId=2418838

I just want a ps4 controller deal :(

FoxsLogic

I did look at this before but decided not to, and as an actual solution for using an actual Xbox One controller, I can 100% recommend the Brooks X One Wireless Adaptor, about the price of a controller but as someone that plays alot better with an Xbox controller it was a no brainer, using the Xbox One controller with my PS4 and switch (equal to or better than a pro controller honestly) and Xbox with a few button presses to switch between each 'mode', no need to faff with wires once set up other than to charge it aswell, and battery lasts the same as the Xbox One recharge kit (hated how short the Dualshock life was), motion control for switch feels the exact same as normal too!

TOO-TIGHT-TO-PAY

Top Tip: If you like the Xbox controller, you can actually use an Xbox controller on PS4... you just need to use a Titan One USB Stick (or similar) to make it compatible. As for this Hori controller, I picked a couple up for £25.27 brand new (from music magpie, no longer in stock unfortunately). I'd say they're worth every penny of £25, but I wouldn't have paid full retail for one, it has a weird habit... it randomly spins my character round for a second or so in Fortnite (and will not accept any inputs while it does it)... whilst it doesn't happen very often it's obviously quite annoying... apart from that everything works as described. It did take me a few days to get used to the button layout on the controller, you just have to persist and it eventually feels natural. To be fair I have had more problems with the Dualshock 4 controllers than I have with the Hori controllers, hence why I tried the Hori, so personally I wouldn't worry too much about online reviews, if you want one, get one.

The_IMF

Thanks for the info. I've got both consoles and buy more games on the Xbox only because of the controller. The PS4 controller gives me RSI in my left thumb.

Ven.Smith

Great for the price but honestly not that well built. Picked one up a while back based on how good the Hori DS and 3DS game cases were but the Switch one is weak and flimsy in comparison while their paradoxically vice-like grip on game cards makes you feel like your going to snap the case or the game each when removing!

Yeah me too, got to a point I stopped using mine because it was annoying to switch the joy cons around and leave it off, then the switch’s online update fixed this problem. Used it a few more times now it comes in handy.

Picked one up from Sainsbury’s Oakley (Cheltenham) today. It actually feels really nice to hold, a good weight and for someone with big hands like me, really comfortable. Didn’t realise the dpad pops off to reveal the buttons underneath. Can’t think why you would want to do that but it’s nice to have the option.

the Zelda / Mario / Splatoon ones are manufactured by PDP. this is manufactured by Hori and is infinitely better in terms of build quality.

If this is like the Legend of Zelda one that was on sale from Smyth's. This is a nice budget range controller. Much better than the Joy cons. The analogue doesn't feel terrible and is fairly light. Did me well on a few games of paladins. But I prefer the joycons on stuff like Octopath traveler. :)

cicobuff

And by Cronusmax I mean Cronusmax Plus, but of course if you still do not like that then there is always the Brook Super Converter. I simply do not understand the logic behind thumbs being in a more 'natural' position with offset analogue sticks, I literally have to bend my thumb upwards to use the rarely used D Pad on the PS4.

meherenow

OK sensei, "lol". I'll just send it back if I don't like it. And I could also pick out any number of one star reviews of the CronusMAX - of COURSE I have considered that over the years...

cicobuff

You would do way better getting a cronusmax and using an official Xbox controller on the PS4 than wasting £25 on the Hori. Yet another [crap review]. Bad dead zone, and poor ergonomics and a cramped grip...hope you enjoy it lol.

meherenow

Well as we have both agreed, it's each to their own... I do feel that the evolution of the offset stick has won the day though as this cramped crab grip appears to be Sony's crusade alone.

Forgive me re-posting most of the same comment as the last time this pad was posted. Don't touch these with a ten-foot pole. (poo) I returned mine, as did a lot of people, because they're utterly useless as a fighting controller. Without using swear words it's difficult to do justice to how bad these are. (poo) (poo) They miss diagonals, which means rotations are virtually impossible. Their wireless range is ridiculously hit and miss, even in a small room. (mad) HORI should be HORIfied that they put out such an awful piece of junk. Sorry OP, I don't know of a better price so I won't give cold, but seriously, these are absolute junk. Some feedback from others in the Nintendo Life hardware review comments: -- I bought this and sadly its VERY bad. Connection problems, misses 9/10 diagonals (making street fighter awful!) Signal easily blocked by small physical objects, occasional noticeable lag, directions hanging as if constantly pressed. Unbelievably poor. Not sure how this has been praised here as I've not used a wireless controller with so many problems since the 90s... so in that way it's at least era accurate. Seeing this mentioned elsewhere too, so either this review is way off or there is a seriously large bad batch... Taking mine back for a refund, and I'd advise anyone thinking about getting this to seriously avoid it. I'd love to see footage of the reviewer playing a single decent round of SF2 with this thing. -- Just want to say I have this and as above it is VERY bad for Street Fighter II. The diagonals don't register so you can't pull off any moves when you need to. 1/10 for Street Fighter and any games that require diagonals. For anything else it's usable. Except the button layout is explicitly set for Street Fighter! So it's worthless. I've put in a preorder for the 8BitDo controller. Hopefully the quality is better. -- I don't know if the reviewer got a special copy or what but it's almost impossible to pull off diagonals and since this controller was made for fighting games hence the name fighting commander it's practically useless for me. I only bought this for street fighter and you can't dodge or pull off combos without diagonal controls so I don't know if the reviewer got paid to just hype this up with fluff, got some reviewer copy that didn't have this defect, or just didn't test it out on street fighter which would be crazy but do NOT buy if you wan't 8 way directional controls. And if you see an 4 or 5 star review on a retailer site chances are that the person didn't use it for street fighter or doesn't care but all the 1 and 2 star reviews out there are deserved, HORI which produces great gaming accessories and excellent peripherals really dropped the ball on this one, seems like they rushed it out of the factory and into the stores too soon.

bob_hoskins

Amazon have the 2.4 wireless version here for 19.08 (free shipping over 20) which seems to be the cheapest from a UK seller. Can get them for about 16 from china - Chinese company so just a time issue. Be aware that the 2.4 one is not Bluetooth so won't work on the same range of devices as the Bluetooth version. No, you're right! I tried one of these aswell, (as they just looked so cool) but they're absolutely useless in all the ways you just described. I have been very unimpressed by most things that Hori has brought out for Nintendo products. I'm amazed that Nintendo even gives them a license. For the SNES Mini, the 8-bitdo versions are the best wireless ones that look and behave how a snes controller is supposed to. But on most wireless controllers you are still limited by range. So what I prefer to do for both my NES mini and my SNES mini is just use an extension cable on the original wired controllers. There's some pretty good ones out there which work out much cheaper than buying expensive controllers. When doing that though, it's worth looking out for the ones that let you link up multiple extension leads. (as some will lose signal if you link up more than one, whereas others have been designed with repeaters built into the connectors, so you get zero signal loss). The Orzly ones are a good example of ones that work well for multiple linking. I don't always need to, as they're often loing enough as they are. but depending on what room I'm in, it has been necessary at times. (my friend has a big living room where the couch is far away from the TV, and saved us no end with that method).

Nexy
