You get less track with the Santa express, this set from Lidl also includes 2 short straights.

Not really a deal if you ignore the RRP, you can usually get these hornby starter sets for around £30-£40 so £50 is very steep. considering its high season you can get the Santa express for the same price and you actually get more track so cold from me. Argos

No, a bit big for that. Save £50 and use a piece of scrap paper.

Ditto South West Trains.. even when paying them 3k a year...

here we go again. my asda just managed to get rid of them like 2 months ago. they were £30 on a pallet for months and not shifting. one day they all disappeared (empty pallet there, so sold no doubt). i wonder if they reduced them to £15 ??

£36.99 at argos 6 months ago. £33.99 about 8 months ago. My son was given it last Christmas from asda, was around £35. £49.99 isn't a very good price.

Pray tell how much cheaper and when?

Because hardly anyone buys dvds anymore so they've had to start giving them away?! Lol Side not, Thomas and friends is not MY Thomas, remakes of classic cartoons make me sad, they being said, that song is so freaking catchy!

Got one today, it is a bargain for the price, I think people expect a full track layout, add £350 and you'll be there.

Got two for collection in Middleton Manchester if anyone wants the order number must be collected by Tuesday the 6th

In stock at Paisley Linwood. Ordered thanks

If anyone is finding the track layout too small, they do have their track extension packs reduced at the moment as well: http//www.argos.co.uk/search/hornby/

Worth checking in individual stores, this was marked at £30 in Asda Radcliffe the other day.

A great deal, £60+ elsewhere. A good pack for someone just getting started and a good way to buy some extra items if you already have a few sets. You can always sell those items you don't need like the controller.

Hornby Western Freight Hauler - £30 in store @ ASDA Roehampton, £120 on their website

Great price at £30, they had quite a lot on the shelves also

It was their "Christmas special" - permanently advertised at £120 on their website, and one store in Enfield on a Tuesday, so that they could flog it at Christmas for £60 "half-price", probably now the stores are clearing the last of the Christmas stock to make room for an Easter Special of similar poor value. Good price for £30.

They had these in the Gloucester branch.

Amazing deal

Bargain but I suspect a local "one-off?"

Not a bad price for the Hornby santa express set for under the christmas tree.. Other retailers seem to be selling for around £50

It’s fab!! Bought it at the start of the year in the sales- my son found it under the stairs in Feb so we’ve been using it all year (lol)

£43.95 here - http://www.jadlamracingmodels.com/hornby-r1210-santas-express-christmas-train-set/

I say this ever year, but seriously get one! It looks awesome going round the Christmas tree 8) Nice price too OP!

3 years ago I got one of these free from Amazon, I placed the order but an hour later changed my mind, it was marked as not dispatched and simply clicked cancel order, then I got an email to say it had been dispatched, I contacted Amazon and they said don't worry it has been cancelled, 2 days later it arrived and I had not been charged.

Honestly you're better off using Gumtree & eBay and spend the £60 on used stuff. For that money you can pickup a nice selection of track & rolling stock especially if you shop around. Track is dirt cheap from Hattons. I use peco flexi track in 1m odd sections then cut to size if necessary. Avoid buying used Hornby points as they can cause derailment when worn.

Hornby's quality is pretty poor for the price on their normal sets. Gave up with them years ago especially as they seem to have a huge problem in financing new sets with modern trains. We aren't all baby boomers wanting steam engines!

I use swt trains most days so very familiar with what you say....

Choo Choo, all aboard the overpriced trainset

Great lunch box price heataaaggeee !!!!

That's odd; PRIMEDAY didn't work for me only PRIMEDAY17.

Both work it seems, their email said just PRIMEDAY, that's where got it from.

Lego Friends Cupcake Cafe was £24.95, it's now £36.02. Even with the 15% off code it's too expensive. Can't see anything in the Lego Friends range worth getting at these prices.

Using code LMVQL gives 20% off at Very making the Hornby set £47.99 (code valid for existing customers, expires 11 June). Still don't know if my son needs it though!

If it's the Royal Mail postal train it'll arrive late with damage to the carriage...

I agree its currently the same price at a number of other retailers including Very so whilst a good price (compared to the RRP) not really a great deal

I love Hornby but the Postal Express set sells for £60 to £70 odd elsewhere (£59.99 at Very). The £120 Tesco quote is the rrp so I think they were selling at too high a price to start with. Still anything to do with Hornby gets my vote.
