Suntory Chita Japanese Whisky - £35.90 @ Amazon.
Found 5th AprFound 5th Apr
Super price for this. It went hot when I posted at £40 before - this is the lowest it has been.

I had this whisky delivered yesterday and got stuck straight in. I thoroughly enjoyed its slightly sweet complex flavor although I must say I was a little disappointed with the cheap screw cap. As others have mentioned it is very much a summer dram but one which I highly recommend, especially at this price. Thanks again OP.

I take it as a compliment you've even actually taken the time to make this comment. 69 comments in 5.5 years including your comment to me. I'm flattered :D

Don't complain about being mocked if you make foolish comments on subjects you're not an expert on then. Ignorance isn't an excuse if you try to display your wit by mocking others.

Yep I know, I bought 5 ;) ... still have 4 left. Also had 2 bottles of Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2011 that I'd posted as a deal on here years and years ago for £60 (and which attracted similar "Japanese whisky??!" comments). I honestly bought them for drinking as it was sublime, but then didn't... and sold them a couple of years ago for £600 each to TWE :D

Miyagiko Single Malt Whisky is £75, got one bottle for £26 at Kansai Osaka Airport. Hibiki 21 Year Old is sold out for £450-550, it was also available in limited edition bottle for £225. Nikka Taketsure Pure Malt is £55, commonly found in newsagents/shops for £20! Definitely filling up the suitcase next time.

I just ordered it but I didn't get to apply the £5 credit they e-mailed me about a few days ago. Sad times. Heat anyway!

Currently unavailable now but great price and great product.

The iTunes copy with this will go for a few bob, making it even cheaper.

This takes me back, watched it with my friends back in the days when we had to go out and tell our mates what we had for lunch instead of posting it on a wall! :) Heat!

Awesome, our Sainsbury's in Bicester have them on a small stand in front of the Delicatessen (odd location since they have a 'World Food' aisle!).

In that particular store they'd moved them to a sort of clearance area along with other Chinese/Japanese foods that was part of the Chinese New year promo

Yes, love these, I know what I’ll be grabbing tomorrow! 👌🏻

Just because you want that car and pay less than rrp doesn't always make it a deal does it? It's better to pay less obviously but still £70+ for joy cons even if I needed them is still way too much imo.

Value is measured in more ways than price surely you are not that naive EG a Ferrari costs £350,000 way over priced for a car but that’s what they are then woohoo a deal comes along it’s now only £310,000 it the best price it’s ever been is that not a deal? In your argument it’s not a deal because you can get way more for you money if you buy something different. But what if you don’t want something different and you want that car then it’s a great deal just saved myself £40,000 thanks poster have some heat. This site needs to get back to giving heat based on the price of the item not the desirability of a item or it’s value for money.

if its not value for money sure.

So what you are saying is that I should vote every deal cold just because I don’t like it don’t want it or think it’s overpriced. Not based on the fact it’s the best deal available at the time of posting 🤔

Great post. I have the Orient Bambino version 2, had to get it from Amazon US. Thanks to Urban Gentry. Absolutely love it.

Orient watches use their own in house movements not Seiko movements. I have two Orients which both keep better time than my Seiko 5.

I have a couple of automatic Seiko watches. one gains a bit of time and one loses a bit of time over a week or so. Are these any different with them being the same mechanism? Nice looking watches by the way, never heard of Orient watches before. Heat added for the price.

Orient, all in house made movements. Currently wearing my star seeker (GMT).

It's usually a bandwagon effect. It takes the first few votes to sway a deal to either hot or cold and then almost everybody else just votes in the same direction.

Anything for free is good, but Japan Centre's prices are just daft nowadays. I've been going there for 23 years (all 3 of its locations) and it's gone from the being the best 2 floor 'bookstore' with a basement level food supermarket, to a bog standard sushi bar/restaurant that stocks some Japanese groceries and other bits. Suntory Yamazaki Japanese Whisky - £45 @ Waitrose instore & online

It's not just Japanese whisky, many Scotch bottles go for large sums. It's simple supply and demand economics, with more people willing to pay good money for something that is in limited production. As whisky has become more popular the supply of aged whisky has dropped dramatically and the price has risen accordingly. One bottle in my collection has gone from £70 to over £500 in less than 5 years. There is / was only 500 odd bottles produced. The Yamazaki in this deal I feel is actually excellent value for money, there are few others I would chose at this price point regardless of origin. It's also worth noting a considerable percentage of the cost of a bottle of Whisky is tax and duty, and therefore the cost of importing isn't much of a driver in price. When drinking in Japan I found prices similar to London. Drink and enjoy

I saw the full Karuizawa Geisha series collection on sale in Dubai airport in December for $300,000 (shock) . Couldn't resist taking a photo. Clearly there are people willing to pay crazy prices for Japanese whiskey.

Sad Sam posted similar ramblings on my Chita deal back in December. It would appear the complexities of Whisky are far far beyond his simple thinking.

Whiskey is Irish or American and nothing to do with Scottish whisky. Your wish is granted and your comment moot.

For people asking about pre-pay cards, you can get them here, in convenience stores, but they do not have addresses linked to the cards, so some purchases do not go through (including Paypal). Rakuten has one, that I remember off the top of my head. As for address registered ones, the problem is that you need to provide your residency/zaryu card for every single address related thing you do. It's hard to get around having one, even for simple things like pay as you go phones and starting a gym membership. They do *love* their red tape here.

Good point! I can use my Gaica Visa card. It's pre-pay but registered to my Japanese address.

Yeah they only sell the paper cards now and at nearly an extra thousand yen per card.

Amazon Japan used to sell digital codes at cost but they don't have anything at the moment. I haven't managed to find a single other method.

Yeah i'd love to know if there was a place you could buy pre paid visa/mastercards for japan and mexico

Suntory Chita Japanese Whisky - £40 @ Amazon
Found 18th Dec 2017Found 18th Dec 2017
Top Japanese whisky from Suntory. Usually around the £50 mark and rarely discounted.

Whisky vs whiskey for those that don’t know: https://scotchwhisky.com/magazine/ask-the-professor/12991/whisky-or-whiskey-why-the-two-spellings/ I think it’s great that countries like Japan are producing whiskies - we get to try new variations and it has an influence on the Scottish whisky production. The same happened with Sauvignon Blanc wine - produced for so long in France but then New Zealand produced new varieties of it which have taken off and influenced French production.

Not only are you right on this but it's true of all whiskies from Japan, not just Suntory Chita. Japan doesn't charge tax on alcohol in shops so it's obviously going to be cheaper than the UK from the start. For that reason, if you're ever (lucky enough to be) in Japan then by all means stock up. It won't be cheaper at the airport for the same reason. I looked at importing a few bottles myself in the past month. Yes, it's way cheaper to start with but a) the shipping costs obliterates any savings and b) it's illegal to import alcohol of this strength anyway.

Of course, duties, VAT and shipping costs.

I was looking at this yesterday. Just a heads up: one of the Amazon reviews says that this is massively overpriced in the UK, as it retails for around £20 in Japan.

I received this bottle as a gift back in October and enjoyed a glass on Saturday. It’s smooth and light with a honey after taste. I usually add a couple of drops of water to get more flavour but this bottle doesn’t need it. If you like strong, peaty flavours this isn’t for you.
