Thats cause it doubles as burglary proof device

Ah, I’d forgotten that this is the one with the cheeky Mario that changes facial expressions! Well he’s worth £40 on his own (y)

Argos's crazy codes included lego last year so hopefully this will be reduced further soon, still too expensive at £44

You’re paying more for the electronic Mario. We got this on preorder with a birthday code for £40 which was a bargain. My kids (8 & 6) love it and I’ve quite enjoyed setting it up too. Waiting for the expansion packs to drop being buying any as I do feel those are slightly over priced

It's worth watching the video. I first thought the same but this is all about playing after build rather than the actual build itself being the objective, as like you say there aren't many pieces for the money and it encourages buying more packs.

Thanks to the OP - I've saved myself a bundle on 2 presents (Birthday and Christmas) for my son. 👌🏻 :)

Bowser's Castle is currently £79.99, need to add £5.01 more but can now get it for £68 with 15% off. I can get an extra 5% off through work so got it for under £65!

You can also share your prime account with a family member for free, so I run with 2 as some amazon offers are 1 use only

I've used it 4 times so far and got them to price match their cheaper offer price for something I bought before offer started that I paid more for, would have only used it once if everything had been in stock at that time as I bought 1 item with 15% off code so would have saved a bit more if tagged to bigger order

Iv used it on 7 orders and now its showing invalid will have to order on someone else’s account. Thanks for tip about the initial/nickname (y)

I think the bigger problem with a Hamleys instore promotion is the fact that the nearest store is properly brucking miles away....or real a pain to get to! All these Mario sets are really selling like hot mushrooms! Couldn't see a single one left on my local Tesco shelf although it's not my thing. I must be the only guy! (confused)

Lego make everything these days in their sets. Great time to be a kiddie where your parents can afford to buy this for you (excited)

"Hamleys is proving to be the only place so far getting the new Mario Lego sets at any kind of discount off the RRP." Probably because they were only released 5 days ago! Ten percent discount is pretty meh. Wait a few months, and we'll see 25-30%. I don't really see who is buying this line anyway, It's too expensive for parents (this set needs the starter set too - another £50!) and has limited play options. It's too toyish and bulky, so won't appeal to the artistic types who want to display their sets. It is incompatible with City/Creator lines so won't appeal to AFOL. They have very few pieces so won't tempt builders looking for a challenge. I suspect most buyers are investors thinking they will make a killing when it retires - doubt it. Will just end up hugely discounted like the Angry Birds sets.

I’m just messing with ya ;) I’m not sure how it works but you can create a course layout and then play it as a game with the interactive elements. However if I were buying it I’d just display all the figures/enemies and objects/buildings then use the rest for parts (including for the first time ever a 2x5 plate :o )

Touché. Lol no I meant it sounds like... never mind (cheeky)

You play it however you like, that’s the beauty of Lego

“Course?” Are you actually meant to play this as a game?

Would be better from Lego with VIP points, and freebie sets/delivery if you end up buying something else

So, what does everyone think about the Lego Mario starter kit? Has it met your expectations? What are your thoughts?

Received core and Monty mole set today finally

As some of you may had noticed when i first posted this it was for a free Mushroom Surprise Polybag over £40 on all Mario purchases but then that offer didn't happen. Well LEGO where actually going to do the offer but at last minute the offer was pulled and delayed for some reason, I suspect this is to do with them having to ship them out to other retailers who promised the set with pre-orders of the starter course but only had few sets to give out. It arrived today. I did order 2 sets and only got 1 of the freebies but I guess the bonus set compensates for that.

Have you received this yet? It said in the email to expect it before the 20th but I've not heard a peep since. Edit: I spoke a day too soon. Just had a message from Yodel saying it's arriving today.

Just had an email from them saying they have managed to obtain stock of the free gift and that it and "an extra gift" will be in the post soon.

You just know that in a months time you'll be seeing The Entertainer selling the "free" Mushroom surprise polybag for like £4 and yet saying to pre-order people that they won't be getting one for free. I mean personally I wouldn't mind The Entertainer selling them as i would buy a few to extend my courses with.

Interesting that they gave you a totally different response to me.

Has anyone received the starter set from yet? We are still waiting and the run around in terms of contact has been terrible. I actually feel really stupid for choosing them at the pre order stage. I've held it in my hand in the lego shop, in asda, in smyths, loads stock in argos, amazon delivering it. But can't get my early pre order from the official lego shop? It's just bizzare, it's not even been shipped yet. The money went out ages ago with the original order so I've been too strapped to pay out again for my son in the meantime. It's just a bit crap for him is all.

Although Argos have corrected the price to £74.99 looks like a few places have it cheaper. LEGO Shop = £74.99 + Free Delivery + 5% VIP points (worth £3.75) The Entertainer = £64.99 + Free Delivery or C&C IWOOT / Zavvi = £64.99 + Free Delivery Selfridges = £65 + Free Delivery GAME = £64.99 + £4.99 delivery or £4.99 C&C with £5 voucher given when collected

Thanks bud - he is absolutely Mario daft - I've got a guy coming round dressed up on the day (lol) I think he will love these sets (y) we need a decent box for it all to go in as well. He's playing Mario 3d World at minute. He's 6 on his birthday but he's pretty good with lego. I'm sure he'll be shocked! Hope so - he's had a hard time through lockdown as an only child like so many.

Solution here is to buy a second of each set so you can build it secretly right now ;)

Average Price per piece has gone down or at least stayed constant. This theme has high prices due to the large parts that are unique to this theme and also the electronic Mario in this particular set. You also sound extremely misinformed about Nintendo. You’re missing out (:I

Love Lego, have done ever since I can remember. But back then the sets weren't 14 bricks for £20. Nintendo never really been fussed about them, always seemed like a gaming device for people who didn't like gaming (with the exception of Mario Kart which used to be cracking fun). Their stance on people who are creating emulators to backup old unavailable games is awful.

Safe to say he's not a fan of either Lego or Nintendo (ninja)

Cool story 👌

Same here. Ordered in May. No expansion and the preorder arrived in a beaten up box.

Dang, I feel as if The Entertainer has been pretty crap with this promotion. Not heard a single person who has received the free Surprise Mushroom set from them, I've also heard complaints with Amazon pricing it £5 off and yet charging £49.99 for pre-orders going against their pre-order price guarantee and LEGO Shop is yet to ship them out. Not heard much about GAME, IWOOT or Zavvi's pre-orders. All I know is Smyths definitely did the best as they shipped them out a day or two in advance of release and I actually got mine on the 31st July, a day early with the free set includes.

same here. Just rechecked this thread to see if i imagined it !

Pre-ordered, received today - box badly packaged - half the box lid was flapping open. No free Mushroom expansion pack in the package. Grrr... UPDATE : 06 Aug - Email to say they will ship expansion pack and "an extra gift" to say sorry. Too bad I've just returned it!

Draper import products for UK brands like Wickes and Homebase, rebranded for these stores. They are imported, but all their products are specially developed for the company.

what a handy lil kit its great !! this will help him to start doing some DIY haha

Never was it worth £45.59! You cant base the hotness on the fact its now almost £30 cheaper than RRP as thats just bull lol £15 is about right value for that pile of rubbish. in which case isn't really a hot deal.

It's the same kit. Wickes had a number of their automotive parts own branded (which they prefer) rather than Draper branded. When stocks of own branded goods were not available, they would sometimes sell Draper branded goods. (e.g. look at their battery chargeres they are also clearing. Wickes branded, but identical to the Draper ones. Some stores even have the Draper ones mixed with the Wickes branded ones) Original price of Wickes toolkit was also £14.99 (prior to VAT reduction), then it was halved and now they are clearing them at half that price.

I bought the Wickes set and you can't argue for what it has included for £4, but if you want a serious set of tools for working on your car, you need to look elsewhere. The tools in this box will do for the odd easy job, but they're not up to serious punishment or precision tasks.
