My G4 was great until died due to boot loop... then bought G6 which received Oreo around 2 weeks ago. LG has opened new software centre in Korea recently, so things looks promising... still waiting for Oreo update for my wife's V20

DsK

The only things I can fault with my LG G4 were the boot loop issue and the empty promises of software updates...

Based on OP's deal share/your comment, purchased (y) . Arrived today, pristine is definitely the grade, so ordered one for myself as this one's been stolen by SWMBO :o :D .

What are the thoughts on either this phone or a new Moto 6 for roughly the same price but with a two years warranty...? Camera and general day to day use, YT and browsing, is typical of my needs. A pity that it seems only the Carphone warehouse is selling the bigger 4.9" Moto G6. Thanks :)

Had another poor battery day today. Low usage but had to charge it twice (dropped to 40%ish quite quickly so charged it back up to about 85%) so I guess whatever the problem is, its still there. Much as I love the phone, I cant live with a battery that doesn't last all day. I see I can trade it in for £161 at sellphone24 handtec so might do that and replace it with a nokia 7 plus. Anyone got any advice around that? Is the nokia 7 plus a much poorer handset in comparison with the LG g6? Saw someone had three bad 7 plus handsets in another thread, so am feeling more cautious than I usually am with phones.

thedon

That's reassuring - I guess my problems started around the same time as the Oreo update. I had a quick look and there's a few comments on Reddit and XDA with people saying the same things. Hope there's a fix to follow soon from LG...

Pasanda

Had the G6 about 6 months. Battery life was 2 days when used lightly, with out of the box settings. After Oreo (about 2 weeks ago) that's been halved, unless i used the battery saver setting.

prettejohn

It has a headphone jack!

thedon

Yes, I'm using the stock lg camera app. What do you find wrong with it? I might have the same but haven't noticed!

Well I paid same price (actually worked out around 215 because I bought credit online) for this in cex in october. It was a grade b but came like new, albeot unboxed with only chatger and eject pin. Cex also gives 2y warranty. I dont think I would pay the same fot his now. Device is good though and I actually stuck with it until like a week ago, which fir me is not so obvious as I change phones frequently, but the price should be a bit better by now I suppose.

Wouldn't touch LG again after the bootloop fiasco, lost 2 handsets which they wouldn't repair

AndriiUA

No bootloop issues in G6 so far. It's a great phone and it will be soon updated to Android 8.

hcc27

Yes this is a peculiar LG thing. Has happened on my G2 and more recently, on an old LG G-pad 8.3. Resetting sometimes solves the problem for a while but it always reappears. I believe LG paid out on a class action related to this issue in the US. The G6 is a fantastic phone, but I just don't want to throw 250 notes given the bootloop issue. Heated.

coventgamer

Had this before I got a s9 plus great phone. I recommend the LG if your on a Budget

Holdsworth

Had an LG Nexus 5x which suffered from bootloop, which was repaired under warranty, but took three weeks - hard to consider LG again.

Surely it will still have remainder of LG 2 year warranty?

SherlockGnomes

I looked at the Nokia but it's more than I want to pay really. Only thing that put me off this g6 is the 90 day warranty, a year warranty and I'd have bought.

ashchet

Phone price will probably drop even more once the LG G7 ThinQ is out

mightyreal

They're also a pretty flower! :D

Yeah it was good, powerful to run demanding headphones. What put me of with LG was the slowness of updating software. I liked the removable battery, wide angle Cam, DAC. I will wait and see what V40 will be like, might come bk who knows.

Or ask me. I'm always right. :{ Be prepared for the same confusion from people with any other Moto G6 deals. It has been the same with every generation after the Gen 1 Moto G was released. It hits it's peak last year with the G5/Plus/G5S/G5S Plus/Single/Dual SIM variants.

Mrswitch

Expire/unexpire/expire/unexpire I should know not to trust people, and just look myself. (lol)

I think you may be confusing the different models available at Amazon. The low end Moto G6 Play is £169.99 or £179.99 for the Dual SIM version. The standard G6 is £219.99 or £239.99 for the Dual SIM version.

no only the american version has Qi it has 32gb more and quad DAC audio over the poor european . version

Martin881

I don't buy the carrier argument. iPhones don't have that issue, Google Pixels don't have that issue, it's just another manufacturer excuse. If they wanted to take control of updates they easily could.

he6rt6gr6m

Had LGs GT540, G3 and currently G5. All had updated within about a month of them coming out. It's not necessarily the company, but the carrier that delays it.

Burty

I think it's the US version that has wireless charging but no Quad DAC The HK version has Quad DAC but no wireless charging as long as you buy 64gb version or 128GB I have the 64GB HK version with Quad DAC. The sound blows every other smart phone I've owned right out of the water on a wired connection. It also has APTX HD wireless which isn't bad for bluetooth headphones either. I guess all versions probably have the APTX HD.

Martin881

They've been about to release Android 7.0 for the LG G4 for as long as I can remember, don't trust what LG say. Until people have actually received the update on these devices assume it won't be happening.

Lloydinio

yeah I had the same issue! I have no idea how it broke, I've removed the shattered glass and put a tempered glass camera protector. Also my lower mic stopped working.

Regprentice

I had a g6 - the problem I had was the SIM card tray is made of soft plastic. It snapped inside the handset and the broken piece couldn't be retrieved preventing me inserting my SIM or an SD card. It a fairly common issue . Vodafone initially claimed that a snapped simtray wasn't covered by the warranty - but in the end they swapped my G6 out for a p10 (they've stopped selling LG handsets).

Great phone. Pathetic camera. If I had a chance I'd never buy this again. The quality of the pics are 2013.

£509 is a lot of money for such a mediocre phone. Having owned a few LG phones in the past Ive now give up on them. They realy havnt been able to keep up since the G2

Raseo7

Hmm. Still seems like the price does not match the data that is being offered. Plus it is a two year contract. I once used to survive on 2gb but my usage has gone up in recent years. I cant find any i5-8250 with SSD even close to £500 Cheapest I could find was https://www.ebuyer.com/818882-lenovo-v330-15ikb-laptop-81ax00cbuk at £600.

mugen6

Whenever a work colleague asks me for advice on what to buy and they are usually fixated on the processor only - they have no idea what an SSD drive is or how it can improve their lives 10 fold! Nor do they understand the difference between 1366 x 768 and Full HD resolution (or IPS vs TN panels!). For an everyday laptop, I would take an i3 CPU + SSD over an i7 + HDD every single time.

spannerzone

Marketing plop isn't it! - there's not a huge difference between the i3, i5 and i7 dual core U series from what I can see..intel have just muddied the waters with their confusing range of mobile processors....but I guess it'll be a selling point as an i7 is of course better than an i5 (unless it's an i5 that is better!)

mugen6

i7 on a laptop is a marketing gimmick. It's still a dual core! As someone already pointed out, the 8th gen i5 (i5-8250U) outperforms this i7 by some margin. But seeing i7 gives people a warm fuzzy feeling, such is the power of marketing.

I think it’s HP stuff in general...., a lot of cheap plasticky hardware coming from there of late

phannon86

Whilst the spec is good for the price, I've had nothing but problems with mine. Bluetooth is the least reliable I've had on any device, just randomly drops and doesn't recover unless you reboot. Multiple bluescreens and blackscreens (doesn't recover unless you physically pull the battery). I'm on my second one and still having issues. I'd keep well clear.
