I went to Borough market a few weeks after the attack because I was disgusted I'd never been there before. I used to commute through London regularly and had never heard of the place. I had the normal 'are you mad?' concerns. I've been going to potential terrorist spots my whole life, I'm not going to stop now. You use a bit of savvy and stay awake in potential hotspots.

thabiz

It's probably fairly safe if you keep away from drink, drugs and prostitution. And you don't get wound up/violent easily, or tend to make others wound up/violent.

Loathecliff

50p each way on the bus to people-watch through the hotel zone (once is enough, but note the turquoise ocean). Then back to sanity at my favourite centro restaurant. Four courses and a drink £3 :) Viva (the real) Mexico!

svizor

All police out here is armed. And they petrol the hotel zone as a lot of the income comes from torrists to make people feel safe. They are more like check points than petrols, your Taking my words out of context. Anywhere you go in the world has crime.

I can highly recommend the Rui yucatan it is brilliant, safe and a gated community absolutely class holiday!

Great price. These are usually on offer for a pound each at Morrison's. I don't think they're as hot as the 3 chilli rating would infer but they're tasty. The sofrito one is the tastiest I find.

hotukdeals.com/discussions/xbox-buying-from-other-regions-using-cardvpn-updated-2018-2878798 Worth checking this updated thread out to purchase then for those who do not know?

apester

You could... 1. Buy 200 MXN (appx. £7.98) xbox credit from Seagm (link in description) - this is the minimum amount you can buy. 2. Navigate to Microsoft's Store and change the region to Mexico (bottom left hand corner) and find Firewatch (link in description) ... tip, use Chrome and Google Translate extension to translate into English :) 3. Click Buy and redeem the xbox credit at the point of purchase. You'll be left with $75.50 MXN in your Microsoft 'wallet' for a future purchase. Game will download in English (if your Xbox is set to that language) Hope that helps.

Sorry to here about that. That’s a crap way to operate. Don’t think I’d book them ever again.Beware TC bookers.

monkeyhanger75

So you think Thomas Cook are giving you the exit tax for nowt? It's built into their holiday price, either way you ultimately pay for it. Would not travel with Thomas Cook - they have a very lean airline for the size of their operation, and frequently divert return flights to major airports not too far from the intended airport e.g. a fair few Newcastle flights get diverted to Manchester so they can bus you back to Newcastle within 4 hours and not pay a penny for the extra inconvenience. Then their plane is ready to go from Manchester.

monkeyhanger75

Chichen Itza is amazing - the engineering that went into that place is staggering. They built a pyramid to represent the solar year, 4 sides 91 steps high, plus the temple at the top = 365 days. Also, at the equinox, at a certain time of day, the sun snakes down one corner. If they built that pyramid more than 1 foot from where it is, the snaking would not happen. Also, the echos at the set of columns making the duck quacking noises when you clap. How did they know how to do all that when they were still hunting with spears?

smk77

What's your point?

contingo

Before booking I would find out when the ship was built, and go to cruisecritic.com to see the reviews. But one thing is true in the crusing world, you get what you pay for, so dont expect top notch food, entertainment, facilities, decor, etc The OP should have posted the ship name really, in crusing the brand is all important! However Pand O and Fred Olson do attract an older clientele

Most UK foreign exchange outlets don't convert the Mexican Peso so you either take loads of £ or use ATM's when you get there. Use a fee-free card and be aware that ATM's are surprisingly rare; I have seen large queues for an ATM in Puerto Vallarta. Also, 24Peso to the £ is still very good - it's just that it collapsed for a short while after Trump was elected due to his anti-Mexican campaign rhetoric.

Quite cheesed off with Thomson - the reason the Mexico flights are so cheap is that no hold luggage is included and you have to pay £50 departure "tax" when departing Mexico in order to leave. Every other airline includes this tax with the price of your ticket, but not Thomson - as I found out last week when returning from Cancun.

If anyone has info' on cheap mainland Portugal beach front holiday deals (in case my search for good Thomson's Cuba deals turn out to be a company stitch-up too :^), I'd be very grateful to hear. Thanks

c_1st

I agree Mozart - although we all know it's part of the Portuguese territory, Thomson should make it clear they are referring to Madeira... I call it out as clickbait: they know full well thawe would think they mean Portugal rather than Madeira! I spent ages trying to find ANYTHING on mainland Portugal before realising they'd advertised hotels and flights ONLY for Maderia. Thanks to the OP for posting tho'. I'm now looking at Cuba deals instead, so the heads-up for a white-sand Caribbean holiday instead of Portugal is much appreciated :^). Best wishes

I think i mis-quoted somewhere sorry. I meant to quote the post about adding drinks costs to the bill.

rachelandgromit

I've been on a Cruise and Maritime cruise from Liverpool to Norway on a bargain sub £299 deal. The company itself is really geared up for the older passenger. On the plus this meant we were first off the ship as we didn't need assistance and we weren't stuck in the wheelchair/walking stick queue for meals so it did have it's advantages. The entertainment was knitting, card making and the Hairspray movie shown on DVD. Tom Jones seemed to filter through the the cabins and public areas on a loop. It was a funny experience and a very cheap way of exploring Norway compared with flight/hotel prices but you may need to lower your expectations. It's good value to see somewhere on a non-fly cruise and tipping is added to your bill but you can remove it 48 hrs before your cruise finishes if you wish and tip staff individually. We also took alcohol on board at Liverpool but it was a few days after the new cruise terminal area opened so don't think they were bothered on checking.

trizinger28

Unfortunately you wouldn't be allowed to take any Alcohol on board, and the soft drinks are usually included anyway.. :(

trizinger28

Holiday Pirates isn't the cruise company name, it is merely a website showing where bargains can be had, including cruises, package holidays etc. They are usually last minute or far off bookings but they do show some cracking deals from time to time..

trizinger28

That's correct... meaning that the passengers pay MORE as there isn't 800 staff ! Whenever I cruise I always tip the staff that serve me personally, this unfortunately is a little biased, as the mechanics, kitchen staff, cleaners etc have all done their bit too but this is where the greedy cruise line owners have their duty to attach the relevant wage.

The hotel is actually situated in Bucerias, not downtown Puerto Vallarta. Very safe area amd no problems leaving the hotel at night. Going again soon and will be my 7th time without seeing any trouble whatsoever. I would have no problem recommending this hotel or area to anyone.

buzzard

A good price but having been to the area shortly after the local drug barons decided to petrol bomb garages and a bank below a hotel I'd try to check the safety situation before taking children there. It isnt easy to do that - people were claiming on tripadvisor, for example, that there had been little damage when there was a photo of the burnt out bank if you searched on google.

Are Cancun still making tourists using Thompson pay £40 exit fee? Was gobsmacked we had to pay that as it had never been mentioned before.

Prosamuraiman

Really good deal. I used Thomson last year to fly to Cancun and I was really dreading the worst using them. The worst thing about the airline was the on board food and the other customers who were very poorly behaved - people were going from one aisle to the other by climbing through the centre rows! One passenger was rudely awakened by an idiot slapping his leg to move him aside so he could climb over. I would fly with them again but if BA was a tad more I would fly with them instead.

brutallogic

I think he was trolling for a reaction This is a decent deal but not uncommon, Thomson & Thomas cook runs similar deals all the time, especially to Caribbean and like this you need to find a lot of accommodation.
