Not even a comparison, closest consumer electronics products from Currys …Not even a comparison, closest consumer electronics products from Currys with anywhere near acceptable audio quality would be by Sonus or Bose but they are natively powered soundbars jobs and this is a high-end passive centre speaker that needs an av receiver and 5 more discrete speakers that are preferably matched to complete the setup and that will set you back over 1k easy lol.

Lol that's exactly why I ended up changing my system to Anthony Gallo as it was the only one that was aesthetically pleasing to her...if she knew it was £2k she'd may have changed her mind
Edited by: "CheapoChaser" 28th Nov 2017
I'm hoping that this is a sign that the receiver might be coming down in price. I've set myself a £400 target on the price of the DN1080 before I buy it. I was hoping that this would happen this side of Xmas but I'm prepared to wait a while if necessary.
For the price you'd expect something a bit more higher quality, like Onkyo.

I am wanting to connect this to my TV as well, but having good quality sound for listening to music is important as well.

Another big advantage of this over a regular hifi is the ability to play music from a variety of other sources, eg internet radio, spotify, a NAS drive, etc. Most hifi-specific kit doesn't tend to do this.

The reasoning amongst audiophiles is because these boxes do so many other things they're a jack of all trades and a master of none. Personally I'm sceptical which is why I was asking if this would sound as good as a similarly-priced hifi amp.

thanks for mentioning the onkyo speakers waiting for theese to drop ordered thursday and delivered today shipped from Scotland bit cheeky as i have prime in the uk site
I really want this Denon receiver but I'm new to all this. If I get a pair of hifi speakers, will this work well as a hifi if I put it into direct mode? A lot of audiophiles claim that a dedicated stereo amp will give superior sound quality but I find that quite surprising.

I have the Denon 4300 and that would do those speakers more justice.

Also someone above mentioned the Audyssey roll-off. Can get the Audyssey app now that allows you to adjust the Audyssey curve so that you can get a flatter response which I have but not used yet.
This is good for music especially. And especially for SACD and DVD-Audio which can handle up to 100kHz signals. Don't argue we can't hear them, this is not an AV forum.

This should be hot I think. I have these speakers except the sub with the older ax2200w amp and they are great. They have a much rounder sound than the Q acoustics in my opinion, but they also seemed cleaner sounding than the bronze 6 speakers. So I find them ideal for both cinema and music. For reference I have a bk electronics p12-300 sub in the matching black ash. I've not thought for a second that I made the wrong choice and in a 5m square room there are plenty of reserves in the volume stakes on both amp and speakers for any film. Can't comment on the atmos performance yet as the speakers are still waiting to go into the roof.

Reviews seem to agree they sound great but a few mention they're a bit clunky and you need to physically turn volume up and down on the device.

Rubbish you turn the volume control up on your phone. As for sonos multi room I packed my sonos 5 up and sold it.Big black Ugly plastic thing that's too boomy.Bought this and prefer it.Simple loud but controlled on top end and treble.Sonos are like bose overpriced paying for a badge plus monitor audio are experts in this field no gimmicks just quality.
Can you run a chrome cast off the speakers USB socket? That would certainly make it more appealing to me than having to have a separate power input for the chrome cast.
nice find, bought one. cheers.
Is this anything more than just a bluetooth speaker and an active speaker with 3.5mm aux in?
That's a lot of money for a single ugly speaker. Even one made by MA.
I'm failing to understand the heat here. I guess in comparison to products made by Sonos this must appear as a bargain to a lot of potential Sonos buyers. And I guess it is exactly that.
Great design , very compact, superb sound . As others have said it's not a multi room speaker but as a standalone neat Bluetooth/Airplay unit it is superb. I love mine.

I own myself MA Silver series, they are ok... but i am planning to spend this amount for ScanSpeak drivers and crossovers, and will build my own speakers, which will be top end spec and if you would like to buy similar performance manufacturer speaker you would have to spend closer than 10k. If someone saying that it is not worth paying such amount for speakers, you havent trained your brain towards high quality sound. And once you do, there is no way back. Its same like saying Bentley and Fiesta is the same and not worth paying extra. Which is true in a way, but if you admire, why not.

Err, well it's not, since Bentley is manufacturer of a car whereas Fiesta is a model of car.
OFF TOPIC: Im using 4 x MONITOR AUDIO CONCEPT MX1200 600 watt 4 way speakers myself in a 7.2 home cinema setup with 2 x Custom 300 watt Subs and 3 x 200 watt custom built 3 way speakers. you can hear the quality compared to the cheaper makes. audiophiles will spend the ££££s for the best sounds.
Makes me chuckle a bit to be honest. Most people spend this on a PC that lasts about a 6-7 years whilst you could keep these for 20 years plus. Myself would dump the cash into a really good sub and some lower power speakers.

It looks quite nice stood vertically, and doesn't take up too much desk space. The only slight annoyance is that it takes 30 seconds or so to boot up after switching on, and the sound cuts in and out once or twice during this time (I think while it connects to wi-fi). However it's otherwise flawless and sounds great, so I would recommend it. Tested AirPlay once and it worked, but don't really have personal experience with that feature since I'm just using it as a basic amp.

Hi,

I was sorry to read your comments on this thread about how you’ve had problems getting hold of these speakers.

We'd never intentionally mislead or lie to any of our valued customers, especially as we'd have absolutely nothing to gain by doing so. As such I'm at somewhat of a loss to explain the circumstances you've reported on 3 separate occasions, and I’d therefore be most grateful to hear from you some more information to allow me to investigate what has gone wrong here. So that I may do so, please would you PM me with some more details?

Of course if any other forum member has had specific issues with any of our stores do feel free to PM me with some further information.

Meanwhile, my sincere apologies, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Many Thanks

^^Are you looking for a pair of stereo speakers[This post] or a 5.1 setup? as they are two different kettles of fish..

These would be better in a 5.1 setup as they are large floorstanding speakers. But if you are looking for a BX 5.1 setup? you would need to buy another 2 rear speakers, a centre and a subwoofer.

As it says on the tin.. Focal dome 5.1 is a complete set of 5 speakers and sub. They are small wife friendly satellite speakers. I have them myself and have replaced the sub with a bkxls400. They will never beat any floorstanding speakers at stereo as they need a sub to get the best out of them, for their small size though they sound amazing as you can see from online reviews.

These are my go to speakers, they are a bit boomy and position sensitive but I'll never get rid of them as long as I live
I have the RX6's and they sound awesome hooked up to my Rega amp. This is a great price
I bought a set of these in the offer a few weeks back (£325). I have them running off my ONKYO A/V Amp - the sound is the best I have ever heard - really makes a difference over my previous AR18s Bookshelf speakers.
