Also, if you have an AMEX there's currently a United Airlines offer for "Spend £500, get £100 back".....so if you can push the price up to just over £500 (maybe a slightly more expensive flight day/time or by reserving a seat?) then it's worth paying with your AMEX

Now... if I may: I went to NY on my own in October. Seeing as I was a lone traveller I did lots of sightseeing without much money. I did pay for Liberty and Ellis Island before I went (obligatory activity in NY I think) and I noticed that the queue for purchase-on-the-day tickets was HUGE. I assume that's what you would have to do with one of these passes, but I could be wrong. (The heavies at The Statue of Liberty also confiscated my banana but that's another story) I was in NY for 3 and a bit days and I can honestly say that the Liberty and Ellis Island tour was the worst bit. So many tourists and I found the whole thing quite irritating. However, I'm a self-confessed grump. I think it came to about 20 quid in advance. Everything else I did was either free or really cheap. I did have to spend $20 on the subway, which was as much for the fun of going on the subway as anything else. (It's not that fun... Underground better) There are tons of free things to do. Loads of places to walk and find accidentally. I was actually happy to spend the money, seeing as I'd gone all that way, but I just couldn't really justify the cost of one of these passes, knowing that I had no real desire to go to the Top of the Rock (or similar). I did go to the Rockerfeller Centre... not my cup of tea. If you plan to do the museums then it's probably worth it. I didn't have enough time for that. And don't forget that the Museum of American Indian and the City Library are Free. I've heard good things about the Tenement Museum but I ran out of time and you have to book in advance. My top 5 Free things in no particular order: Staten Island Ferry High Line Walk along Brooklyn Bridge Quiet bit of Central Park at the top 9/11 Memorial at night There are basically no supermarkets or corner shops in NYC. This is really irritating when you fancy a snack and some wine. There are Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks everywhere... this is both convenient and irritating. Beware acrobats on street corners that ask for vounteers (they pick on 'sexy white guys') as I saw many a person have to drop $10 for the honour of being a part of the show. Made me cringe! After I got back I discovered online about the abandoned City Hall subway station at the end of line 6. Wish I'd known about it. If you are going for a longer time than me, then it might be good to get a pass.

cjx

Used this one earlier this year. Had the five attraction pass for about £95 so this is good value. Just make sure you redeem them when you get there and before you do anything as we just thought you used the print outs and walked all the way to intrepid museum to have to go back to redeem for the actual cards.. Beginners error. :(

It was hard to list a price with it since it varies with dates. Yeah, I doubt you're going to make use of iTunes but they had free international phone calls from the rooms which was nice and I'm sure you'll make use of gourmet coffee and wifi. The first time I went to New York, I stayed in a hotel in Times Square but felt no need to do it next time. The important thing is it's not very upmarket prices :)

steve123uk

Looks upmarket, and did look as going to NY in April, but it jumps to over $220 a night. I've found cheaper around Times Square and after all... how long are you going to stay in your room to appreciate what the price offers

Well TBH the £50 tend to be light weight and with alcohol you would probably fall off them and break them. I can gladly say that i never fell off them, whether that was my ability or the chairs ability is open to discussion

JJbobstacle

The wife has told me they are a bargain, so it looks like we're going to have to buy some

donslibi

Nice to see top quality furniture items on here. These will probably last you a lifetime so not actually ‘expensive’ in the long run. Cheap ones are a false economy.

ando

after how many drinks would you not notice the difference between this and say a 50 quid chair, great if you've got money to burn

tighty

I had 4 calligaris bar stools in my old house (perspex ones with the signature holes). They were great, well built, sturdy (very heavy bases) and lasted years. However I didn't buy them new (come on really?) But I left them when we sold the house. They say you get what you pay for and with these you do......if you have the money

Booking unsuccessful Dear DAVID, Unfortunately we have not been able to complete your transaction. nazmanchester

hey Dave, no I've not heard anything else since... it's just a waiting game now. however if it gets cancelled then it gets cancelled. it was worth the try. if it gets honoured then respect to Opodo, I'll be leaving great feedback and they will be making my kids really happy for holidays next year!

Craigslist_isBetter

Reminder emails are auto generated as you have made the reservations at opodo. It’s confirmed only when the carrier confirms the seats to Opodo which is unlikely. Has the money been taken from your card? If not then I would suggest to wait till tomorrow and book a genuine fare before they rise.

Thanks OP! I just got direct flights from LGW to JFK and for 2 people totalled £285 each (w/ luggage). Maybe you can get cheaper if you really look, but to go to NY straight this is nearly half price (or better) of your usual price. Heat added!

Zlatan9

I never knew that. I never knew that.Great tip (y)

aturner123

Id recommend flying via Dublin if you can with Aer Lingus. You do the US immigration bit at Dublin so you can quickly breeze through when you arrive at JFK (which is a terrible airport).

Zlatan9

My bad.I was searching for direct only.More like 287 then. I went for LHR-JFK Non stop on 15/6-21/6 with hold luggage with Virgin for £310,which is the best i've seen for a while, if that helps anyone. (y)

Ted.Wales

These are good prices, although they are via Brussels with a two hour stop-over, making the total flight time around 11hrs. They seem to fly United Airlines into JFK and out of LaGuardia, which isn’t a problem either. On a budget, this is the way to go.
