I think it's a valid strategy as a company: get as many customers by making a few compromises and when you have enough then you can start growing your margins.

crumpo

They started off as budget competitors but have now moved beyond mid range into the higher end...at least that's what I've seen with Oneplus. Sorting out their rough edges, like the OS, also comes at a price. It shows there is a bit of a base price for these phone components and an android-like OS on it. Maybe next year, with production running at a better capacity, prices may go down a bit on newer models, unless 4k screens (and NFC) becomes the norm

pentaya

Good deal as it is probably the cheapest... Regardless, these phones should go for less than 350 brand new in the current market given many new ones out for release. Just can’t believe how cheap these phones were few years ago and so expensive now. Oneplus, vivo, huawei, MI and few similar ones were super cheap and they’re ridiculously expensive now :(

Didn't know the 7t had issues, so just checked mine by changing the brightness up and down several times on white and black screens. All seems ok thankfully.

realdeals

Yhr screen as always black crush, Green screen. Owners say it is hardware because after several attempts to fix them they are still there. https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/i-bought-a-second-oneplus-8-pro-display-issues.1217358/ Comprehensive info here https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/green-screen-black-crush-and-image-retention.1215452/ If you get one from certain third parties and you have the issue you could get stuck with it. I dont know whats going on at OP but the 7 pro, 7T Pro and the 7T all had the green screen issue. It could actually be the quality of the screens used or the factory they are coming out of, but they defiantly don't t have an A+ screen. It looks like Display mate are the second coming of DxO, personally i would hold out and follow news.( i'm not a fan of pot luck) As well as their there usual hardware issues you have the assembly line of software bugs to contend with, this is why i will not pay over £350 for one of their phones. ( some breathing space to get shot of it)

uchihasilver

You would need to ask oneplus themselves about that some companies don't mind others will adamantly not fix a device not sold in the region

MujjaNet

Sorry if question has already been answered, are the Chinese phones covered in the UK or will the phones need to be shipped back?

uchihasilver

Yer probably should have added that though tbh it seems their customer service is not great from people ive spoken to

Cheers mate. I'm on the fence as to whether to sell my Pixel 3 for one. I know the pixel 3 probably has a better camera, but the screen and specs along with descent price is tempting me. I had the OnePlus 3 and also the 6. I thought the 6 was fantastic.

shiggins92

So I purchased the OnePlus 7t. Coming from a OnePlus 3 it's a MASSIVE difference. As in everything is an improvement with the biggest being the battery and the camera. The only thing that confuses me a little is the camera has a lot of settings which I haven't come accustomed to as of yet. Amazing camera though, doesn't matter how dark it is it still gets brilliant photos. I definitely made the right decision going 7t. Bargain at that price!

Ayrshireguy

You can use GCam which improves things quite drastically sometimes. You'll only be able to use the main camera sensor unless you root which will then enable you to use all 3. I've got a few samples showing the difference between the stock camera app and GCam if you wanted to see them, feel free to PM me (OnePlus 7 Pro).

Romneym335

Got mine today, gorgeous phone

Dragon32

Yes I think it's going to be very useful. I will just charge my phone as usual at night and in the car but in an emergency I'll use the Warp charger (thought I'd give it a go the other day when it got down to 12% and within I think was around 20mins it was up to 80% (don't quote me too exactly in the time though as I had been drinking 🍻). 😁

Jonwillis

I've underestimated how useful the warp charge is. I got a longer usb cable so could use phone at night whilst charging, but the reality is I can plug it in, do something else, come back and unplug the phone as its at 50% it more. I would say it's 3-4x faster than my old s8+

Fair comment. I may well make a contribution to a good cause. It's crazy how much profit Amazon must make.

DirtyQwerty

You do you but I'd sell it and put it to a worthy cause - Amazon won't miss it, put it that way.

Turned out better than expected. I bought one from Amazon Warehouse to save some cash. It arrived yesterday but 2 boxes turned up. One was my 7T (perfect condition. Well happy with it!) and the other had an Oppo Reno 10x zoom in it. I decided to do the right thing and let Amazon know... They told me to keep it or dispose of it

low_level_devel

Mines arrived today...screen looked so dull compared to my m20p and I don't notice any difference with 90hz....was almost getting sent back until I changed the colour temperature. Face unlock is really quick and the fingerprint scanner actually works consistently :) overall a really nice phone for the money.

Went for it, 5 monthly payments option sealed it, so useful that. Contact for my s8 was finished off yesterday so will be good to pay this off in 5 months rather than paying 02 for three years

A very commercially aware argument, could not have said it better myself as if I was a chairman OnePlus or even Apple! Unfortunately many customers are not going to buy that argument anymore and roll over by spending a grand on so on a new phone. Nexus rocked and I loved every one one of those models which were made. The Nexus 5 took better photos than phones double it's price.

ronak47

Selling phones at rock bottom prices isn't sustainable long term. I understand where you're coming from as a consumer but Oneplus are a business and need to operate as one. The Nexus line of phones was nothing more than a testbed for Google to gauge the market place, learn from others and improve their software. It never sold in mass quantities. The Pixel 3A outsells the regular Pixel 3 because of price. A Nissan Micra probably outsells the Nissan GTR, that doesn't make it better.

Vatman95

It's got nothing to do with the price charged by the reseller. OnePlus have abandoned their traditional fan base. Google did this after the Nexus line of phones and regretted it. That's why the 3a far outsells the Pixel 3. Even Apple has learnt this and they are the masters of overcharging.

@jsw72 I got the Realme X2Pro phone from Amazon Spain last week. You'll love the fact it's the fastest charging phone you can buy, 0 to 100% in half and hour. I don't let mine go below 20% because it keeps the battery life more sustained. Well happy, and the processor is the fastest 855+ 4g one. I opted for 4g because paying extra for the 865 where I can't take advantage of 5g (because of network won't be around for a year or two plus contacts would be higher sim only) All that for under £400 (for the 12gb ram 256gb storage one) with the free Revolut virtual card exchange to Euros to buy from Spanish Amazon. Hope that helps. P.S. and it's 90Hz screen too.

Takavor_Vardig

The 990 Kirin Chip will only support sub 6ghz or N78, again not really "5G". I would recommend hold on to what you have and wait for Qualcomm X60 modem 875 or 880 : What ever the new Chip will be called. Possibility is 995 could introduce the mmWave + Sub 6Ghz working simultaneously. I would personally wait for Qualcomm, however Huawei is a Monster with 5G tech. What ever comes you're after mmWave and Sub 6Ghz which work simultaneously , this is TRUE 5G. Only phone out now that does this is the Galaxy S20 Ultra with a crappy exynos processor. Hold fire and then splash out. I'm rocking a mate 20 Pro..... I can wait :)

Psxgul

What about Huawai 5g?

Psxgul

You can load Google apps in them.

ImperialWookie

It depends on if you want/need the best specs for the money. The Pro has the best display on the market, just like the 7 Pro did last year. It's noticeably better than the regular 7T/8, not just in terms of resolution but uniformity. The 7T and 8 may use 90hz displays, but they're still the same poor quality OLED panels that were used on the 7. Anything with a white or grey background (which basically covers the light and dark mode of everything) will have noticeable shifts in colour from either top to bottom or side to side. Some people can live with these faults but they should be inexcusable for any OLED device in 2020. Personally I'd get a 7 Pro on eBay if you really want a OnePlus device. It has better battery life than either of the 8s, and no nasty hole in the screen for the front camera. Unless you really want to join the group of 5 other people in the world who actually use 5G, a 7 Pro would tide you over until they finally get rid of all these crappy notches and holes. Would be way cheaper than a standard 8 too (like new blue 256GB Pros go for just over £400).

I don't think it's an issue that develops over time, the device either has it or it doesn't. If yours is good then happy days.

realdeals

If the phone is cheaper it because they skimped somewhere and this year many will be doing it. A company called Micron now produces Ram and UFS storage, so many of these cheaper Phones will be using these components or using the remainder of last year's parts. The OP8 for example is using DDR4 and UFS 3.0 when UFS 3.1 and DDR5 was available and OPPO with nearly all their devices using last year's camera hardware. It's going to be interesting to see how OP go this year with these price increases, but with OPPO and VIVO now in the same markets price parity was always on the cards.

realdeals

I thought I said what was the advantage of OOS (confused) I haven't held the the X2 pro or a OP8 but the materials used are exactly the same, aluminium and GG5 front and back. But I would imagine that the OP should have a better fit and finish given the difference in price, though I did see a video where the reviewer pointed out a few design dislikes in comparison to the Mi10. Haptic feedback seems to be the buzz thing over the last year, I don't use it and has no effect on how I use the device. It is certainly not something I consider when buying a Phone, so for me it's no big deal and it's just reviewers earning their sponsorship by pushing it. When more games support it that's when it may become a consideration, but as for now I will save the battery it uses. (y)

MrVix

I had in mind other brands who makes phones with bigger specs and sells them cheaper and obviously still makes profit. £800-900 is miles out from cheap for me.

quglarz

Have u hold it in Ur hand ? I got a Chinese version from eBay and the materials are not as good as OnePlus and the haptic was terrible as I remember. Pictures were ok
