Very much agreed, the thread must be full of OP fanboys. £35 off a 2017 high midranger is not a deal.

Yeah I ordered the 5t in the end. I kinda missed led notifications when I went from Moto G (1st gen) to Moto X Style, the Style is still quite neat with the sensors and gestures though, I think I will miss some features that were on the style when I go to 5t. Yeah I agree about the youtube reviews. I usually like to wait for feedback on forums and buyer reviews, like amazon. I'd rather get the opinions from consumers. The nokia is on preorder for amazon so you'd see how that turns out soon. I did the same sort of research when I was between the Moto X style and the Nexus 5x. I chose moto in the end after seeing some bad reviews for the 5x and some forum feedback. Cheers for sharing your opinion. :D

aratkin

You will have warranty with the seller. It will just be a hassle to send back to china.

AndyT85

I'm thinking of buying for the 128GB but worried if anything goes wrong with the phone then there's no warranty to fall back on.

teerex

I have also been thinking about the Nokia 7 Plus but, after watching several YouTube videos, I'm not so sure it anymore. There's no led notification, I'm used to tweaks to stock android and will miss that because this is supposed to be completely stock (eg swipes etc), and so on. Great build quality and screen though. The problem with YouTube reviews is that they sometimes leave you more confused and they disagree on basic things, leaving you unsure. I think it'll take a few months after release and some updates to get the best out of it. This oneplus 5T has already gone through that process so is more mature when you consider software. Just my humble opinion.

aratkin

Kinda same dilemma. I'm between this deal and Nokia 7 plus. One thing you can think of though is that you can easily sell the Oneplus 5t for more than you paid for.

The 5 Plus is expensive, had mine a month and got it for £119, on aliexpress, seen it since for £107.

stec77

Any opinions on the watch?

hcc27

Some home grown Chinese companies with no foreign quality control inspectors - DJI (drones), Huawei (sells more phones than Apple!), Xiaomi, Oppo (reference high end Bluray players according to WhatHiFi, amongst many other products), Hisense, ZTE, Lenovo (second to HP in terms of PC units sold in 2017) etc. etc. Yes, China used to copy. Now they innovate. I'm sure you're aware that they recently launched the world's first quantum satellite. Remember how the West used to look down upon Lucky Goldstar TVs and other products when they were introduced some time ago? Now you refer to LG as an established brand. We dismiss China at our peril.

Bad.Actor

Ordered a Xiaomi phone from the GW-5 warehouse on behalf of my sister in law the Sunday before last and it was delivered by DHL the following Friday, fully tracked throughout. Was bit nervous about customs and handling fees even though it was from a supposedly EU warehouse but no extra costs. I think the GW-5 warehouse is in the Czech Republic.

Comparisons are fake, best pictures selected and shot on tripods.Theybare not a true representation of what you will produce. All of Oneplus's phone have had poor camera's Video reproduction is rubbish with a 20-30% crop of the original field of view on the front and the rear camera Look for low light video reviwers it's shocking, all the major reviwers avoid showing this like the plague. Any movement brings a blurring to the video, there is no ois so it really is hit or miss. If you need a good cam you won't find one here.

smr1

Since my 3t updated to oreo late last year the sound gives out every now and then. Means I miss texts because it has stopped notifying me unless it still lets me know via my watch which it does occasionally. In call volume also drops off and I have to reboot to improve both these problems. I also bought from O2 so I was covered by UK regulations.

andreialisen

"feature", lol. I have a few groups on 'mute' on WhatsApp and almost every few messages I get, that notifications is showing up. Completely useless.

illy1965

The notification about apps using battery is a feature in android 8 so you can't balme that one on oneplus, if you do a search I think there's an app which can get rid of it

japes

It's registered with them ("for warranty") and they know where it was bought from. But then, so did LG.... It wasn't until I came to claim for the GPS issue that they refused to admit there is a known problem and said new phones bought on eBay are not covered. Hopefully I won't have to find out! So far very pleased with my 5.

This post was a epic fail. Cold.

marky.mark

Yep your right, most companies have good and bad interactions, but as said, when I had a problem they sorted it immediately. The point I was trying to make, was it seems harsh on the op to go to this effort and get this now -85 score, particularly for a company that has a bad image, but personally an unwarranted one. Anyway, let’s leave it there, while we have some parity ;)

copperspock

Well mine and the personal experience of at least one other person who bought the phone :). Every company has good and bad interactions with customers of course. I'm not suggesting that people are definitely going to have a bad experience with GB and I wouldn't say to definitely avoid them, but I do think people are more likely to have a bad experience with them than with Amazon for example. Trying to get almost 200% of the cost of a phone from me is something I'd expect from a scammer, not an established retailer. They also did the exact same thing with at least one other person on HUKD. Imagine Amazon charging a customer the advertised price for a product, then asking for almost the same amount again to post it out. They'd be rightly crucified. Aye I don't think the -82 is warranted at all.

marky.mark

...in your personal experience, I had a dash cam sent to me, which I’m pretty sure I broke, got onto their customer services, explained I was very unhappy and would open a dispute with PayPal, but they sent me a replacement without hesitating and it’s still going strong today. The point I was making is there seems to be a lot of negativity with this company, which as said from personal experience is totally unjust, and that would deter some people from buying from them. You and many others have had problems. Many others and myself haven’t, just wanted to balance the argument a little, and also shout out for the op who put effort into this and gets -80 degrees unfairly for their troubles, partly because of the bad press, but I do agree that you should use PayPal for peace of mind.

http://bgr.com/2018/01/26/oneplus-data-collection-clipboard-app/ In October 2017, a researcher caught OnePlus silently collecting all sorts of data from its users. Now, a new report says that there's still a OnePlus app that can grab data from the phone and send it to servers in China without a user's knowledge or express consent. BGR reports: The French security researcher hiding behind the name Elliot Alderson on Twitter detailed OnePlus's data collection practices back in October, and he has now discovered a strange file in the OnePlus clipboard app. A Badword.txt file contains various keywords, including "Chairman, Vice President, Deputy Director, Associate Professor, Deputy Heads, General, Private Message, shipping, Address, email," and others. The file is then duplicated in a zip file called pattern alongside six other .txt files. All these files are apparently used in "in an obfuscated package which seems to be an #Android library from teddymobile." Now, TeddyMobile is a Chinese company that works with plenty of smartphone makers from China. The company seems to be able to recognize words and numbers in text messages. And OnePlus is apparently sending your phone's IMEI number to a TeddyMobile server, too. It looks like the TeddyMobile package might be able to grab all sorts of data from a phone. Even bank numbers are apparently recognized. OnePlus has yet to issue a statement on the matter. https://twitter.com/fs0c131y Other chinese phone manufacturers are know for similar activities.

trickytree1984

Pipe down you clown. I read exactly what you said. I didn't buy my 3T to shoot 4k video and not many do. If I were doing that seriously, I'd buy a proper camera. No one buys a oneplus for its camera. It's crap I do take plenty of short clips and they upload to the cloud and delete from my phone. Done. No issue. There are many many reasons to have this phone over and above your stupid use case (that no one else in the world would seriously use a phone for) What proportion of the sales do you think are for the 64gb model Vs the higher on all models? The vast majority take the base storage. Over 80% of the iPhones are sold at 64gb. Are 80% of people wrong and you're right? Should they all have given their money to charity? Or could maybe, just maybe, you could be wrong?

ElgyVeeten

You're thick aren't you? Read what I replied above.

ElgyVeeten

I was talking about shooting 4k videos. I know very well everybody is on Netflix nowadays. One hour of 4k is 20GB on that phone so you do the math. Again, if 64GB is enough for you in 2018 you really don't need a Oneplus 5t. Get yourself a Xiaomi Note 5 Plus for £150 and donate the rest for charity.

trickytree1984

I don't think it was. He talked about watching films on a PC oh holiday.

Ah I didn't know that. Yeah my Nexus 6 is like brand new aswell. Tbh I don't think I could get rid of my Nexus either.

bouttime2

Carphonewarehouse will give £100 for a Nexus 6 as long as there is no significant damage and it turns on. The problem is mine looks like it's brand new. It's had a screen protector and full bumper case on it since the day I got it. Absolutely immaculate. It's almost too good to hand over to Carphonewarehouse. That said, this OnePlus 5T is so fast and smooth. And a better size too. It's definitely an upgrade. Just a shame about the camera. Hopefully a software update will fix it soon.

louiselouise

From my limited amount of orders with Gearbest - generally, they are pretty slow. One was a knockoff BOSS Belt which took about a month to ship (can't give it as a Xmas present! btw, the recipient knows it's not real!) - the Axon 7 thread has a few complaining about how slow it took to dispatch - six weeks in my case. Ordered here and there from Banggood and they seem to be much quicker with dispatch times - one time was a pre-order and took a while, but at least I knew to expect that with a pre-order.

GeordieAffy2014

I have a nexus 6 aswell but reluctant to move to any phone as I think its a downgrade lol. Nexus 6 is deffo special.

m0dm0use

I had 8 outstanding orders to come on Monday but after Thursday 3 arrived and another today so I'm waiting for four orders to come. One was a 75p USB cable which isn't worth worrying about. But I've got three others I'm waiting for all of which were insured so it's more out of time than money that is concerning for those.

Why not What? A full quote would have made it easier to anser your question. If your referring to Netflix, unless they have recently resolved this issue in the last update, it cant play HDR content and it wasn' even able to handle full HD. There were several threads on the HD subject, on HDR it ain't a flagship so it does not have Flagship capabilities. OP software is a joke they have Bluetooth 5 on the OP5 without the ability to connect to 2 speakers, one of the basic functions of 5.0. The last I read anything on that subject it was still the same on the 5T.

Whoa, why not..? :/

Just lolled reading this argument, would be hilarious to see opinions swiftly change if you actually used one. Granted, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but for a phone half the price it stands for something when people are comparing it to the likes of the Pixel 2, IPhone X, Galaxy s8+ etc.

bEENZ1

Haha! I've never looked back to be honest, I still stand by the fact it generally feels like it performs much better than the S8+. I'd say that the battery life, general UX, sound quality, FP + ret sensor and Oxygen are +1's on Samsung. Also, cheers for the link to the beta, have you got the phone / done it?

Not that it's ever happened to me (though I don't order much from Gearbest/Banggood/China in general) but I have seen a few threads on HUKD where this has happened. https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/ripped-off-by-gearbest-empty-box-delivered/ There's a reason why I *shook* my parcel after I took it off my postie (though my postman must have thought I was mad). Was your parcel tampered with? The Axon 7 I got earlier in December came in double grey polythene bags, and the phone box itself was cellophaned, delivered by Royal Mail. I think people are trying to determine whether couriers are more risky or the UK company that handles Gearbest parcels (as I understand it, I think this company receives drop-shipped parcels that come via Belgium/Europe before relabelling them for UK post)? It seems a bit ridiculous to video every package you receive (as some advise) because it just isn't possible in some cases. Credit Card Chargeback or Paypal Dispute is the way to go, I think - Gearbest will just keep stalling you endlessly, from what I've read.

chrisund123

Ouch! That's real bad luck. The customs label was for 20USD!! Hopefully you'll get your money back though. I've bought a couple of things from gearbest without issue now, I'd be happy to use them again.

Waited 3 weeks for this 2 arrive.and it was delivered today by Royal Mail and the parcel was empty apart from some packing 😡 I should have known better than ordering from China.

chrisund123

Mine turned up today, no extra charges - very happy with the deal, £70 off! :D

foodieclaire

No, I wasn't being serious - but thanks for humouring me! :D :D I was wondering why it was being referred to as a phablet as it's nothing like imo. I own the 5t and it's not even as big as an iPhone + model.
