I have something like this and use it multiple times a week. I'm usually cooking for one or two so I can use this for toasted sandwiches, (veggie) burgers, hot dogs etc. I might wedge it open a bit with a metal coffee filter to slow down cooking something frozen and I always make sure whatever I'm cooking is wrapped in baking paper so it barely needs cleaning afterwards. Much quicker and cheaper than putting the oven on for one thing.
Reading the comments, some have said there are issues with this version/brand. I would recommend a Breville, used the family sized version daily for nearly 10 years and still going strong. Amazon Argos its a bit more for £30

Never used the waffle plate but the other 2 have taken a beating. Sandwich toaster with extras basically.
