Phones link people together. They shrink the world, putting friends and family in constant contact, they make absences and separations easier to bear, provide access to information when required and sometimes; they save lives too. Having the right phone makes a big difference to how people communicate and HotUKDeals listing helps buyer's save the most on their next purchase. Read more

Pretty good price for the Pocophone 128GB is £299, but out of stock online, it may be avaliable in-store however

Just interested, when you say its on the way out, what exactly are its problems?

Would this be much of an upgrade to galaxy s7? Mine is on the way out

I picked up the Pocophone last week as a click & collect order and I am loving it, although there is a rather large notch you can hide it on MIUI 9 which is pre-installed, but when you update to MIUI 10 the settings disappear. Another tip if you would like to have face unlock you have to set the region as India for it to work. Spec wise no phone comes close at this price point, although it is cheaper online the fact is being able to purchase at a local UK retailer is a major plus.

Sadly it does not have NFC as it is a budget phone after all, depends how desperate you are to have Google Pay. Otherwise the Moto G phones are a better compromise.

I just read that Poco is getting loads of new features in the area of video recording ... I believe it's already on Android 9.0. I'm not sure if the Mix 2 will ever get 9.0 or new features.

Xiaomi are very good with updates, i have a xiaomi redmi note 3 which is 3 year old now and it is still getting OTA updates the last one just before xmas update to miui 10 and the phone is still going strong,it is standby phone now as my main phone is the Mi 6 but i do still use the note 3 for streaming films and rugby to my TV

I would go with the Poco because I like to have uSD card & 3.5mm where as NFC is not so important. However having 128GB probably OK to go without uSD card. Also, the Poco is better future proofing with regards to software updates.

I'm undecided between this and the Pocophone 128GB, what are the pros and cons of each please. Thank you

Wish I'd have gone for it when it was £265 from

I realise this wont be a lot of use to the majority of HUKDers, but if anyone has plans to visit Switzerland in the near future, Digitec are offering this for around £200:

Just replaced my Nokia 8 with this. I dropped mine and damaged the mic. Overall very happy with my Nokia 8 and contemplated replacing with another Nokia 8 but went for this instead. Honor build quality, sound quality and battery is better and absolutely rapid in comparison. Even though the Nokia 8 is pure Android running sd835 mine wasn't without glitches and bugs. I also notice that in certain places where the Nokia struggled for signal (which i put down to my network) the Honor is picking up strong 4g signals absolutely fine. One trade off i wasn't totally comfortable about was losing Qualcomm QC having set it up in the cars and around the house already but the Honor battery is very good making it less painful than it might have been. Overall pleased with the switch especially given the price. A great reminder of how good Honor are having previously owned the Honor 6

Indeed, the deal I posted about the Moto One (same price as this) got some slating it for having a 720p display, but in PPI terms it's within a whisker of iPhones retina standard and vastly in excess of anything most folks will use on PC/Laptop/TV etc. Comparing it with the display on my S7 which has something like 560ppi it's pretty tough to spot much difference unless I hold it obscenely close or use VR.

My spidy sense is telling me this may be a porkie :{

Reviews are amazing for this device, highly recommended!

My view is all companies are equally safe and equally risky with your data. Don't allow any company to rob you giving a claim that your data with them is safer than their competitors.

Well, apart from that one isolated incident, all other muli billion dollar corporations and western governments can 100% be trusted with your data. No probs.

Seems like a good saving, they have the 256GB XS Max for £950. Official apple pricing is £1250 so that's a saving of £300. The thing that concerns me is the phone's history. Was it a contract device which was resold to MM, and will apple actually value any warranty claims? Also no accessories included or the original retail box. If you don't care about those things then go for it. But a bit risky imho.

Yeah that was my thought too. ‘Refurbished’ being a dodgy description here.

Not the best way to launder money. (lol)

Probably either people who bought it and didn't like it or a demo unit. I doubt they've actually been refurbished in any way.

I wonder where they come from? Are they customer returns badged as refurbs? The phone is just out so seems to early to have them in return cycles already.

Totally possible. The seller was Shenzhen Fangdi Trade Co. Ltd, about which virtually nothing is known. I bought one of these, and, as always, it seems fine - but you never really know how safe these things are unless you dismantle them and have the electronics inside checked over by an expert.

my 6s 128gb died recently and picked up a new 16gb as temp replacement, new old stock too, but battery is 2-3times better despite my old phone saying 85% health. both seem to lock to first sim entered and both from the uk too (carphone warehouse actually). no crashing/activation issues on either mind so you may have a dud

Mine turned up, slightly annoyed its a US model and they provide you a UK charger separate, not mentioned anywhere on the sales page, my concern is US models lock to the first SIM inserted, also the Camera is causing the device to crash, I had massive issues activating it to start with, I am wondering if the battery is degraded as its the 64gb model they havent been sold for ages so must of been in storage for a long time? anyway its going back.

Got it

Not that I am aware of. BT are the only provider legal required to offer a basic service due to regulations created by ofcom. It is a good deal, and let's be honest people who work claim Universal Credit as well especially those who work and have kids / sick relatives to care for. Yes there are EE sims and that, but factor in whether a 3G/4G signal is any good in an area or even a block of flats for that matter! Without doubt. No NFC and the build quality is plastic but it's a durable phone, the screen is nice but most notably the battery is a monster and the phone is absolutely RAPID. Wow people still think specs make the world turn round. This is way more than capable for 90% of the population.

I've had this for about 4-5 months and I'm begging to notice lag and major slowdown which is attributable to the processor being a bit of a bottleneck. I'm no means a power user and despite tweaking apps to not run in the background and not launch on reboot etc, it's beginning to be a nuisance. I don't know why you would buy this over say the Mi A2 Lite which is a similar price and much better spec.

1. Many people do buy used/refurbs so participants in thread may find such comparisons relevant 2. Many users would also buy from reputable sources from abroad, eGlobal being a well-known HK seller that is consistently given good feedback on this forum ( Nokia 8 brand new in £170 region) 3. Prices fluctuate, Motorola One has been in recent months closer to £200 mark. Therefore it's pointless to compare phones of EXACTLY same price: there ain't any. You need to use a price bracket of AT LEAST £20-30 either side round your target price, midrange benchmark being £200. You'll find some phones at that price, some bit below, some bit above. Otherwise comparisons meaningless.

1.) Don't compare new with used; it's pointless. 2.) Phones in the £170 region are what you should compare to this deal, ideally from reputable sources. Thus the Nokia 8 isn't a rival at this price point because it's £30-£40 more, so ~20% difference in price. Just like you wouldn't compare a G6 Play for example as that's £30-40 less.

They're all midrangers in direct competition, but for this budget you can buy the far superior Nokia 8 from HK new, or like-new refurbished in U.K. Check recent posts on this site

Carphone Warehouse don't list it on there website?

Ok for a kids first phone, but I'd be buying from carphone warehouse as it's cheaper! Voting cold as it is significantly cheaper elsewhere!

I get weekly updates but its more bug fixes on their MiUI. Last security updates on July 2018. :(

pete_l: My phone updated itself last year from Android 7.? to 8.1 I didn't notice any change in the way it worked. Nor did I see any new features that I had to use. For me, it was a pointless exercise. All my apps kept working, there might have been some security bug-fixes ..... who knows? Who cares? In all it makes no difference to me whether my phone is running Android 7 or Android 9. Or whether it gets any future updates. I have all the apps I need - the same ones I've been using for years on the past 2 or 3 phones I've had. For me the phone is merely an appliance (I don't care when my TV gets upgrades and I wouldn't care if my fridge or toaster did, either) and the one thing I don't want is arbitrary changes to how I am forced to use it. You don't see any benefits from updating because your either not looking or your just an average user. Android 7.1 v Android 8 Android 8.1 features

Looks like your boat is about to arrive my friend:

My MotoZ was like a Ford Fiesta on Android 6 and turned into a Bentley on Oreo. (It looks like it won't taste Pie but it also looks Pie is no breakthrough, indeed some people going back)

Some people don't understand the importance of keeping software up to date. It can provide: Security patches (stops malicious actors gaining access to your device via exploits. This stops malware such as those that target your mobile banking apps etc). Battery / Performance tweaks to get the most out of your phone UI tweaks to keep your phones interface looking good and performing well by introducing new features and ironing out bugs. Software updates are part and parcel of anything that's connected to the internet. Not doing so opens you up to all sorts of bad things... Remember the WannaCry ransomware that impacted the NHS amongst other corporate organisations? Well that could have been prevented if the machines were running the latest software/patches. Some of the largest DDoS attacks have been down to people not changing their default router and CCTV DVR password's so malicious actors can login from anywhere in the world and use your connection to take down servers in an attack. Again, this could have been prevented had the owners of these devices updated their IoT device firmware and changed their default passwords. Going forward, car manufacturer updates will be even more important than ever before because of advancements in AI technology and the vehicle safety systems. Imagine if you decided to ignore that update and the vehicles radar didn't spot that kid crossing the road or you ignored that security update and a malicious actor programmed the car to roll down the hill etc. Please don't ignore that "Software update available" message... It's important.

Mine went through fine. Called them a second time just to confirm the cancellation. Had my first bill through stating nothing to pay.

just to update, the useless O2 have taken the first months £36 out of my bank account as expected really, now to get it back via live chat

Is this phone any good for moderate use. Or will it be laggy as some reviews have stated?

To be honest and fair that is usual practice when taking out an O2 deal they send you a bill out within a day or 2 of placing the order once you cancel the deal (sim only or airtime if its a refresh deal) they send you a final bill again usually with 24-48 hours of the cancelation, this is where it getting messy as they charge you £3-6 for a matter of hours or days usage when their own T & C's state you can cancel with 14 days, and you will not be charged providing you have not used any airtime/data. so you then (or I do) phone them back explaining the above, then hey-presto they credit that amount back as yet I have not been charged for this deal although I have recently been refunded in full the airtime money (£22) x 2 for my recent iPhone X deals on HUKD

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Usually O2 charge you £36 and then refund you £36 to your bank account automatically. However, if they've just charged you, they should be able to refund.
