tom6195 33 m ago What the weather like that timenof the year I live in Porto, November can be warm during the day and cold at night. Only months to avoid are December to March, wet, windy and cold. If you want great steaks and seafood Porto is the place. To get a good Francesinhas, you need to get out of the tourist areas.

Was recommended by a Portuguese person, unfortunately, bloody awful! At least to my taste. Perhaps I should say not up to expectations. Porto, conversely is a wonderful place for a break.

Between 17-19 degrees, we have been to Portugal in November 2017 and February 2018 and it is Still t-shirt weather in day time and if you stay at the right places you should still have places to drink and eat opened. We are going again secondweek in December!

least there wont be any bush fires

Great!!!!! thanks for sharing!!

Fabulous deal.

Warmer than here but not very warm. Outside their season so many restaurants will be shut. I've been to the Algarve in November and enjoyed it but it wasnt easy finding places to eat.

Not on P&O, I can assure you!

Every ship and every cruise has a "meet the Captain" night to the best of my knowledge and I quote "Many cruise lines host a captain's cocktail party on every voyage so that passengers can meet the crew. The booze usually flows freely at these parties, which can last for an hour or longer. On Disney Cruises, all trips have captain's cocktail parties with free drinks, so that cruisers can mingle with the captain and Disney characters." Certainly happens on P&O. Even on Thompson, just reading.

Really? Never heard of that one........

Have done this cruise in December in 2017 and 2016. Apart from a hurricane in the Bay of Biscay we had a great time. Fantastic large ship. Lots to do. Nice ports of call. Great value for money. Get there by train coach or car. After that its a stress free holiday. Just for info as the cheapest bottle of wine onboard is about £18 :- "Bringing alcohol onboard at embarkation: Each passenger, aged 18 or older, is allowed to bring one bottle of wine, Champagne, beer, spirits or liqueur up to one liter in size at embarkation. ... Purchasingalcohol in ships' duty-free shop(s): It will be retained until the end of the cruise". G&T every morning methinks. Bring a mixer as water is £10 for 6 small bottles. Yes there are some downsides but they are managable. Dont miss Captains night, as much as you can drink for free for about 3 hours.

Cant imagine why it would be cheaper in November...

Depends entirely on balancing the low price against a less popular time of year. There are better times of year to go but they’ll cost you considerably more

so .... is it worth doing or best avoided ??? lol :o

Agree with the above. Cruises are great value for money - and this is at the lower cost end at about £50 per day. I've been through the bay of biscay probably 7 times with no incidents at all. If there's bad weather, the ship goes closer into the coast. These are big stabilised boats and unless you're in a pretty bad storm you wouldn't know you were on one. p&o drinks are the same as pub prices, and the drinks are brought to you, so they are good value. Their mocktails are about £2.50 iirc. So for abot £50 you get 3 excellent restaurant meals, afternoon tea (not a patch on cunard's), buffet open much of the day and night, painting/dancing/talks/cinema and numerous other daytime activities if you don't want to swim, workout or read, and then usually a great west end style (nearly!) shows in the evening. If that isn't great value at £50 then i don't know what is, Plus they take you to different places most days. Extra costs in addition to those mentioned are parking (probably £100 if you need it), tours in the places you visit (ballpark £50 each if you need them) and i can't think of anything else except perhaps a couple of bigger shirts half way through.

Spot on. Its a far better experience than anything you are likely to encounter with a package holiday and just as cheap. The weather is around the 16C mark in the Med December time. . You take a decent coat which your going to travel to Southampton in anyway and your Tuxedo Gowns and gladrags in your suitcases (theres no limit to how much you take). Food is fantastic and the Fine Dining on the Ventura is as good as the Queen Mary 2 which we just disembarked from yesterday. If you dont like the idea of dressing up threes the Buffet which serves reasonable food and lots of it. Having lugged the kids and big kids around the world for 25 years plus (endless airport queues etc) I can say one of the best things about a cruise is that its virtually stress free. Theres loads to do and the ports of call on this one are very good. Alcohol prices on P&O are very similar to pub prices. If you've got on board spend you can use this on alcohol if you want. Its hard to convince people to go on a cruise (i dont like boats etc) but this is a 10 star hotel afloat and its so big you will hardly notice your on a ship at all.

Not if you smuggle it in your suitcase! But you’ll have to take your own cot, provide your own food, not be able to go ashore etc etc! Alternatively pay the infant fare and enjoy your holiday. Pick up a free brochure at your local travel agent. Plus they will give you loads of free information

Meh. Not great vodka. In fact, some would argue at 37.5% it's not really a vodka (should be 40%). Turns to slush in the freezer. I'd drink Smirnoff (which is often cheeper) over this and that saying something as I refuse Smirnoff 😁

I wouldn't pay £17 for this. In Spain this is classed just under Smirnoff, so don't think Eristoff is any better

And ensures the cruise liners don't pay decent money

And this is why you should leave the auto tips on, to make sure everyone in the tipping pool gets them rather than just the charismatic one or two you enjoyed some banter with. There's waiting staff that work as runners between the kitchen and restaurant for instance who you wouldn't get to meet, and the service staff in the buffet you'd never get to know by name. It's an industry wide practice so they have to do it too so that people comparing by price see the cruise price across all lines rather than the cruise+tips price on some. Removing the tips is stiffing people who probably work harder longer hours than you do!

Warning! It’s NOT like the TV advert....

I used to work on a ship, only for 1 year, but it was free accommodation, free food and on my free time I could visit wherever we landed, sure, I didn’t save much money each month (but I did save some) no different to living back home now, where I pay rent and buy food and only save a little, but now I don’t get to travel while doing it lol so don’t feel too sorry for them 😘 x

I agree with you. Everyone deserves a decent salary and the staff do work very hard.

You can Royal Caribbean’s newest super ships Harmony and Symphony are geared up for younger crowds . Night clubs onboard, water slides, wave pools , and drinks packages so you can get pi$$ed without spending a fortune. Huge cinema , 20 bars , 18 restaurants. They hold over 5000 guests and 2500 staff .

Awesome thankyou, maybe il wait until my older years then :P shame love the thought of exploring a different city each day and partying every evening.

It’s mostly 30-60 year olds we noticed on the Azura or Britannia as these are built for families and the younger crowd . But then P&O have smaller traditional ships that 90% of the guests are 55 plus . But not on this ship .

Lol fair enough, well the older generation generally go to travel agents but we have hotukdeals ! ... hmmm maybe il give it a miss then, they should launch a less fancy cruise aimed at the younger generation

Very much aimed at the over 65s. And quite a lot well over that. Obviously a few younger than that but very much the minority. Not a lot of ballroom dancing, to be fair, and most of the moaning is about people who managed to get a lower price. Quite a lot of that in fact.

I totally agree Tidus. I would far rather be in Porto wearing a coat, (a gem of a city), than that manicured scrubland down south. The real Portugal begins on a line between Monchique and Silves, and continues north to the Minho.

Hello Paula, I am portuguese. I know what algarve is. What i mean is, Algarve is more to beach, water parks and etc. While other cities are better to visit in the winter time because they have more going on.

Algarve is not a city but a large area in the south of Portugal. The weather is usually better than Lisbon & Porto and even in January it is still fairly busy with tourists and golfers, I've been a few times in Jan and February and the weather was great and lots of places were open unlike the tourist towns in Spain.

yes agree.

We done a 14 night Caribbean on Azura over Xmas and new year 2 years ago . Cost £1550 each . We go on a Caribbean transatlantic in March 14 nights , but only 5 islands. And the last 4 days will start to get cooler . But that was only £999 pp . So I think this is a cracking deal . Our bar bill hit £900!!!

Heat added a really good price. I sailed with them last Xmas and new year on a different ship £1600 each + a bar bill

Booked this about 9 months ago after completing a similar trip on the Ventura last December. Amazing value for money and great ship. Nice cabins and decor throughout. On board entertainment is ok and the Silver Service dining is excellent if you like dressing up. The buffet food is good too but a bit on the plain side as you might expect. You get the best part of a day at most ports of call. A brisk walk to each town is better than paying for the the bus. The excursions are expensive but they are worth it if you can afford them. Drinks are a tad expensive but P & O prices are about the cheapest of the Cruise lines. Expect to pay about £20 for the cheapest bottle of wine at dinner. They do let you bring one bottle of wine per person on board and you can top up at ports along the way. Some cruise lines carry out very intrusive searches for alcohol every time you return to the ship and will confiscate any alcohol they find. P&O have a much more relaxed policy. Alcohol is very cheap in Gibralter and a lot cheaper than the onboard offers. Dont forget to add gratuities to your bill. These are approximately £6 per day per person. You can opt out of these once on board and tip workers individually with the envelopes provided. You can do both as we did as the workers get paid peanuts and depend on these tips. For those worried about being "at sea" let me assure you that you wont even realize you are on a ship. Its just like being in a very large hotel. Just lets hope there is no more storms lol. Lots of heat to Yozzman1234 for the post. Just book it. You wont be disappointed

Just to add this is an inside cabin , but not much more for a balcony. Probably one of the lowest prices I have seen for P&O .

I voted hot, and I'm not knocking the OP, because I recognise the quote below is copypasta, not the OP's work. "Considered"? Huh? Isn't whether or not it's one of the largest cruise ships in Europe a matter of fact, not of opinion? Now if it had said, "Considered one of the ugliest cruise ships in Europe," fair enough. And with those internal photos to back it up, I'd certainly not dispute the opinion.
