Your description is accurate, but I think it makes them sound so boring …Your description is accurate, but I think it makes them sound so boring and off-putting for the general crowd.

"Analytical" ?

Beyerdynamic don't use the term flippantly it's a design goal and a common parlance for revealing studio equipment. It's should not be interpreted as 'dull' or 'clinical' the DT990s are highly involving, rich, detailed and very very accurate. I do think it's important for buyers to know they are designed to be revealing - some people are seeking a flat or warm response. Doesn't work for me but that's headphones for you very personal and they don't translate well from person to person as ear canal variance and coupling greatly affects the sonic signature. To my ears the DT990 are more 'true' than flat. YMMV. My speakers on the other hand, ruler flat.

User preference but I strongly prefer open backed it allows the drivers to breathe and is IMO more natural and immersive. They are extremely comfortable for long sessions (these sit slightly tighter than the consumer variety) and sonically superior to the equivalent Sennheiser, AKG IMO. They also measure particularly well, very accurate very low distortion, deep bass, perceptively refined and smooth through the upper spectrum.

I've used DT990s since 1991 previously 600ohm varieties. Probably £300 then, in todays money or thereabouts, £99 is an absolute steal for the 250ohm (which are slightly more brittle sonically but barely) it's a classic! I'd recommend them for general purpose use and they are broadly compatible I have no problems getting enough volume from an iPhone. If you were driving from a desk or dedicated headphone preamp the entire time the 600ohm have that tiny bit more grip on the sound, but the difference is very very slim indeed.

nery3 h, 5 m ago

Would these be any good for office use?

No, as they are open-back, they'll leak sound (unless you're the only person in the office).

If you'd like to stick to this brand & similar price, I'd suggest a closed-back pair like their DT 770 Pro:

£122: amazon.co.uk/bey…AAI

Your description is accurate, but I think it makes them sound so boring and off-putting for the general crowd.

For me, I've always been into audio as a musician, but it wasn't til I got a pair of open-backed headphones that I really came to appreciate what headphones can mean for the medium. It obviously depends on what you want from a sound source, but I actually find open-backed headphones *exciting*, despite their lack of accentuated lows and whatnot and more commonly neutral/flat frequency response. I think they provide a level of immersion and believability that closed cans cant.

They look cool and I bet sound great too

Ohhh, bet these would sound great on my little OTL being 250ohm.

Already have the 770's in 80.
The 990's supposedly have a bit more of a smiley signature??.....tempted.

Nothing listed here, and HP only lists it having 1x8GB so I (albeit pessimistically) assumed it would only have 1. If it does have a spare slot then it is a big plus. Thanks

I've opened mine (the i5) to upgrade it and the service manual from HP lists all the hardware combinations that this range is available (including this i7 with the dedicated graphics). I've uploaded a photo of it opened in a deal thread I posted recently.

@ F_Awan this model you got has the glossy screen, right? Normally, these have -artificially- much 'punchier' colours that if you're used to, then going to a matte screen can look a bit dull in comparison. But if you got the glossy screen and it still looks dull, there might be an issue with the particular unit.

Original Poster

So I received my laptop. The performance is great but I am disappointed with the display. Colours are not very accurate and a bit dull even though it's an IPS display. For example if I open YouTube or BBC NEWS, red color appears to have an orangish tint rather than deep red. I am thinking of sending it back. HP have really failed this very good laptop with poor display panels. Probably that was the catch at this price point

So, this or the Envy 7th gen i7 then! I'm in such a dilemma now as to whether or not to send back the Envy, save £200 and buy this! Better dedicated graphics in the Envy (marginally, perhaps), backlit keyboard, better built/better looking, larger SSD and touchscreen vs. 8th gen i7, HDMI and a slightly larger screen (although not sure if that's a good or a bad thing!)

I always wet shave with mine as I find it to rough to dry shave, but is good for everyday use and I wet shave with a blade for going out, so saves me money in the long run but as previously stated replacement blades are expensive but last for ages. Easier and better than rotary head phillips.

Went to 3 different stores on the hunt for one of these and all of them had a completely empty shelf with the £11.50 price sticker jus teasing me... Had actually given up at that point but just by luck I managed to find one hidden behind all the electric shavers in a different part of the store so managed to bag one. Great Deal.

All gone in Kendal Asda (was a space for them marked up at £11.50).

buderim1 h, 40 m ago

How long do the blades last if you do a full face shave every day ?

4 - 6 months

I don't wet shave anymoe since moving to my one blade.
I sometimes shave using just the very edge to give a slight stubble look but it a good close shaver too. Mine came with a setting attachment but it's not consistantly even so go bare back.

Price of blades is a bit of a git but they do last many, many months.
Bigest pain is there is no trimmings capture so expect bits all over unless wet shaving with it.

Bought one over xmas and all I've had with it has been constant blackouts when I put HDR on. I even bought a new TV (and additional huge expense) to pair it with to get the HDR experience but all I am getting have been sporadic blackouts that completely messes up the gaming experience. I just ended up wasting my money hoping that I will have no issues with HDR+4k. Head over to the playstation forums and this has been an ongoing issue since Nov 2016 still without a resolution. That's why fake news is such a thing nowadays because of people like you. "Searching around in google" is not a valid argument either - any intellectual knows that unless you are they typical Sun newspaper reader, or if you are 12 years old, then i forgive you because obviously you still need to get more education - probably have a talk with your maths teacher. You know what - I was out.
However I refuse to be insulted by someone like you. You certainly don't know me and you are cetainly don't know my level of intelligence and education. How dare you sit there and pretend to know.
You sit there as a typical keyboard warrior, standing on their high tower with opinons, that if anybody disagrees with is obviously wrong.
If the actual figures are not available it is more than acceptable to make "reasonable assumptions" - if you want to talk further about this idea then I'm happy to take it offline. Something I've learnt during my education and work towards my two degrees (whilst holding down a full time job in the IT industry).
People don't want warning over "isolated cases" they want to be warned about real and credible problems - want to give me some figures yourself if you're so in the know? Tell me about all these people with the issue. How about we start with the number of people in the thread (singular) you've participated in about this issue, how many people said they ahve the problem?
Anyway, I will always defend myself from insults - if you want to throw more at me then I will answer them. If however you would rather not hear from me again (as I don't you) then it's best not to throw any in my direction.
If you want the last word, go for it - I won't be replying any further, unless you decide to insult me further.
Take care out there - the world is real and you won't be as safe as you are right now behind your keyboard.
