PlayStation 4 Controller: DualShock 4 Features

• Design

  The Dualshock 4 has the standard directional buttons, two shoulder buttons, two triggers, two analogue thumbsticks and the triangle, circle, square and X action buttons all PlayStation players are familiar with. It also allows players to “Share” replays or other content immediately by pressing a dedicated button, has an “Options” button to quickly reach menus, and the PS button to reset. But, these "Options" and "Share" buttons can be a little hard to reach. There are also 2 analogue sticks, central to the controller, which are smooth and easy to use, but the rubber does show wear and tear quickly. Overall, it has a classic PlayStation design, but can feel a little light and cheap.

• TrackPad

  The TrackPad sets the DualShock 4 apart from previous iterations of the controller. The touchscreen can be used as a controller itself by moving your finger in various directions, as well as being clickable. It can be a little buggy and not always 100% accurate, but generally it performs well.

• Sound and Motion Control

  The Dual Shock 4 controller deals with truly immersive gaming. There is a (small) speaker built into the controller, and although it might not provide the best quality audio, the speaker certainly adds to the gaming experience. There is also a 3.5mm audio in case you want to plug in your gaming headset instead. Integrated into the controller are a gyroscope and an accelerometer, which can be used in certain games.

• Battery

  The DualShock 4 is a wireless controller, so it contains a 3.7V 1000mAh Li-ion battery that can be recharged through USB. Generally, this means the DualShock PS4 controller lasts 4 to 8 hours, far less than the Xbox One Wireless Controller and Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons.

• Colours

  There are 4 standard DualShock 4 controller colours: Black, White, Magma Red, and Blue. There are also several special editions as well.
