At 1080p the gap closes but the hierarchy is still intact, and the intel quads still comfortably lead every Ryzen.

The higher the resolution the more you lean on the GPU, and so the gap minimises to near nothing. You aren't testing CPUs then, you are just doing a GPU test.

However the reason why you would use a CPU bound low resolution test is because it can be a very good indicator of how fast a given CPU can drive modern games and utilise the GPU resources available.

So when your next GPU upgrade in the near future is far more powerful the faster CPUs will likely drive it to better framerates even at higher resolution that you might play at. Less chance of a bottleneck with more GPU performance.

Intel dominate in this regard for games. 6700k is still a very fast gaming CPU with no AMD equal.

Even if you compare the performance with an old i7 2nd generation, the performance is still not very far off - consider it's an very old cpu. The 6th and 7th generation barely have any improvement.

While this has been true for years and it does suck for consumers, from a business perspective you absolutely can't blame them. For nearly a decade they have had absolutely no competition with the higher end chips.

Then Ryzen came out and all of a sudden the jump from the 7700K to the 8700K is the biggest performance jump seen between intel generations in a long time. It's great that AMD are putting up a decent fight again.

Looking at it all from only a gaming perspective throws things off a bit. Games are notoriously bad at utilizing multiple cores well. In other CPU intensive applications the high core/ thread count CPU's leave this kind of CPU in the dust.

But given this is being sold as a gaming PC this CPU is still one of the best CPU's for gaming, where the speed and number of instructions per cycle each core can do is far more important to performance than the number of cores.

Edit: Not saying anyone here has been ripped off yet but those buying graphics cards on ebay be careful. There have been a lot of fake cards showing up on ebay. Old 560's,etc flashed with a fake BIOS to make them show up as newer cards.

CPU has very very very little to do with the resolution, that's almost entirely handled by the GPU. Which is exactly the reason when comparing CPU's it is done at a low resolution. So they can be fully utilised without the GPU becoming a factor.

For those saying lol 4 cores, yeah lets completely forget how they actually perform and just go "yeah moar cores ftw" More cores doesn't always mean better in every situation. These hold their own fine for gaming and will do for a long time yet.

6 core CPU's have been available for at least around a decade yet never blew away the quad cores, especially not ones like the I7's with hyperthreading.

Hi,

Thanks op, bought one of these yesterday, used code FREE200 and got free next day delivery.

Its now sat on my desk and I am very happy with it. I have moved from a 22inch IPS 1920 X 1080 so obviously quite a difference and a bit of a wow factor.

Menus are a bit of a faff but you soon get the idea.

Overall if you are looking for a decent 27 inch screen then I would certainly consider this if you don't have £600 to spend on a G-sync 120+mhz one.

Unless you have a tin ear the speakers are completely pointless, but having audio does mean they decided to give it a line-in and line-out. Got my pc plugged into displayport, ps4 into the hdmi, then connected the line-out to a line-in on my pc to use my proper pc speakers.Just a heads up though, there have been issues on models with early firmware, using the displayport might be hit and miss at best, depending on your gpu. I had problems briefly with a gtx 970. Couldn't tell you what firmware version this model uses, mind. I got the GW2765HT from Amazon warehouse for £180 with the black friday 20% off.And for those who aren't as tedious and with as much spare time as me, this is probably the best quality 27" 1440p monitor posted so far. Very functional, good refresh rates, fantastic contrast. The colour gamut is very wide. It has 100% sRGB. Very useful colour temperature settings, but pick between using the eye strain settings here or on windows 10 or with flux. With none of the monitor options turned on I found it a bit too bright though. Great stand, full tilt and swivel, although on a small desk you'll wish the stand wasn't so deep so you could push it back further. At this price you can't complain that it's only 60hz. High frame rate high resolution ips panels didn't even exist until the last few years. I'd much rather this than another of those ebay korean monstrosities, the one I used to own broke when the cheap soldering melted and shorted out the circuit board. On a side note, make sure it's set to full range rgb (0-255) in the settings if you want it to look the nicest as a monitor.

"ebay korean monstrosities, the one I used to own broke when the cheap soldering melted and shorted out the circuit board". Agreed. I had the same issue. I had two, one second hand that is still going strong and a brand new that has already has the board replaced then broke again, hence giving up and doing hours of research to now buy this one. Although the Crossovers do are brilliant monitors (well, amazing panels but crappy cheap boards) I have learnt our lesson as getting replacement parts is a nightmare (plus expensive with import taxes). The hubby said I should pop the broken Crossover on ebay this weekend and I may do, as they do have a good following, and there maybe someone out there who can fix it themselves as its too heartbreaking to just bin it. But I am on day 2 now with this monitor and I am very, very impressed.

Any custom charge to uk

If you select free postage options and are prepared to wait 20-30 days for delivery, you should be fine.

You can never say never, but ordered 20+ items from China and no issues with Customs, using the free postage options. They usually write on packaging it's it's a $5 MP3 player, so customs are not interested.

If you select express delivery by the likes of DHL and UPS for example, it seems nearly everyone gets customs charges as the big parcel companies manage this on behalf of customs and will invoice the sender for the customs charges once it arrives in the UK and hold on to it until paid.

Correct!
I'm no expert but doesn't it being 3G inherently mean it has no band 20?

Sub £300 it's a winner.
*very* light gaming. I have the A10 with the R6 gpu and it'll run older games like skyrim (and Skyrim:SE), AC:Black Flag, but struggles with a modded Minecraft. Can run Overwatch on ugly settings. Just.

If the Lenovo had the same spec it, for me it is the better laptopHowever you really need 8gb ram nowadays. The hard drive is not an issue 1tb or small SSD? I would go for the 1 tb as I can replace the SSD if I need to easily and use the 1tb as an external backup.so comparing both offers as is, the Dell is the better offer. The issues you want to consider are battery life - Lenovo is much better. Weight, the Lenovo wins again. Lenovo = all plastic: Dell = metal chasis Light gaming and media - Dell basic cpu tasks - LenovoRam - Dell 8gb vs Lenovo 4gbHard drive - for light use the Lenovo - for large amounts of data DellScreen: Lenovo = glossy - reflective screen Dell: = Matt, non-reflective but "duller"

Oh, see, the whole 'next two processors' thing is not true. They said there wouldn't be a forced upgrade until 2020. That's code for 'We actually mean there will be a new socket that you need to take advantage of the new CPU, but you *could* stick this great new CPU in that old mobo'.

Also, stop with the '16 threads' it is 8 cores with 8 virtual threads. It takes 4 or 5 virtual threads to equal a single physical core in *perfect* situations (Encoding). In most situations, a virtual thread is near worthless. In gaming, AMD have seen negative performance from enabling virtual threads.

That said, this CPU is not a good purchase. The i5 8400k, the i5 8600k, and the i7 8700k are all better value propositions for various reasons. As you pointed out, the AMD 1700 is not a bad shout either.

Also, notice how you didn't mention Spectre? AMD is impacted by that too.

Mine didn't have QHD though, but I use it mostly in the office and matte screen in my opinion is better with all those lights above the head.8th gen CPUs are more than twice as powerful compared to 7th gen, I would really advice against buying this one and would rather get 8th gen CPU with maybe a smaller hdd or FHD instead of QHD (which will add 4-6hrs to battery life as well).Edit: the coil whine was unbearable (literally), that's why I returned it. Reviews are saying that the new model doesn't have it anymore. http://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/laptop-and-2-in-1-pcs/xps-13-laptop/spd/xps-13-9370-laptop and it's £100 off.

8th gen is definitely worth holding off for or spending the extra money, the coil whine is not unbearable for me, hardly notice it, so don't let that be a put off. John Lewis (where I work) were selling the xps 2-1 for 1099 (this spec I think I didn't really look thoroughly, it gets busy) so looks like they are being phased out for a new model, but a new model is going to cost the full normal price and yes it's better, by quite a bit, but it should be if if costs more so weight everything up. If you don't need the 2-1 get the 8th gen non touch screen, the screen is slightly less vibrant but you do get much better realistic battery

Complete rubbish. The equivalent spec devices are a lot more than this, they can't game either, and not everybody is a gamer. This is perfect for bloggers, vloggers, video editors, photographers, students, frequent travellers, the list goes on, it's light, thin, almost bezel-less making it really compact, has USB c and USB A meaning no need for adapters and it should come with the Ethernet adapter in the box. So, in short, ignore that guy.

The m3 is fine if you're just browsing the Web, watching YouTube etc.. But …The m3 is fine if you're just browsing the Web, watching YouTube etc.. But using any professional software it's pretty much useless - https://m.windowscentral.com/who-should-buy-surface-pro-core-m3I don't know why anyone would buy one, if you're doing only basic tasks surely a tablet would do the same for cheaper?

I find the ULV processors just as useless with professional software, reviews frequently slate the Core-m for not being any good for gaming, 3D work, video editing etc. but having tried some of those with the ULV processor, it's just as useless. Furthermore, the cooling systems for a lot of the ULV processors are inadequate, I've had both the XPS 13 and the Latitude 12 E7240 with ULV processors and stopped using both as they ran uncomfortably hot making them unsuitable for use on a lap (that's with the vents clear) and they had constant, intrusive fan noise even when idling.

The Core-m processors are a lot more powerful than the tablets and not as far off the ULV processors as reviews suggest, unlike the ULV processors they can run entirely passively so no fan noise and they run without getting as hot either. I'm just glad I bought a Core-m machine before they got this undeserved 'rubbish' reputation as I think they're one of the better Intel processors have made in a while. I use Core-m for my portable machines and anything that needs more performance, I use a desktop and don't miss the slightly higher benchmark score for the ULV processors as they're still so painfully slow for anything remotely intensive that they're useless.

Jesus soo many moaning about 2gb on a £65 phone, you do know iphone 8 has 2gb?

720p not good enough for a 5inch display, how ever did we cope with HDready TVs and lack of NFC? Damn the effort having to pull out a card & type in 4 digits is soo tough.

This is a 6th gen cpu, it’s two generations behind

Fine for pairing with a GTX 1060 though.
Quick compare between my existing laptop cpu, this one and a new 8th gen .....

cpubenchmark.net/com…042

It's a huge chunk slower than an 8th gen ulv cpu, and the TDP on the 6300 means battery life will be relatively poor.

Interesting machine though - def needs more ram.

What are the pros and cons of the two?

Not a great deal between them two, for my needs I prefer the brighter screen of the Samsung
I'm looking for an upgrade from my Hudl2, which keeps crashing, especially this app.
Good price, a better than decent mid range tablet. CPU performance isn't up there with the premium tablets but it's more than sufficient for everyday use. Very good VFM. Hot.

Pros
+high contrast
+good sRGB color coverage
+decent camera quality
+low power consumption
+good speakers
+decent battery life
+stays cool
+fast Wi-Fi transfer speeds
+fast microSD transfer speeds
+fingerprint reader
+small and slim

Cons
-plenty of preloaded software
-case creaks
-pressure sensitive case
-only 12 months warranty
-mediocre gaming performance
-long charging time
