Not as good as the fuji deal the other day but better than the £799 it has been for a while. Lovely camera, the ibis makes it a lot better than the 2.
DealHugger

Good choice, you should be well covered for travel then. I don't have the pleasure to own the 16-55, but it is really highly regarded in almost all reviews, probably the best APS-C standard zoom. Do remember to claim Sony cashback on both the body and lens if you have recently purchased them.

MPD1

Ah the trusty 35mm is long gone I’m afraid, I figured if I was getting a bigger body anyway that was no longer pocket size, I might as well add a bit more versatility than a prime. Using the 16-55 now which I’m really enjoying actually.

DealHugger

Make good use of the Eye AF, you will forget your A5100 pretty quickly :) I certainly don't miss my NEX-5 which was super slim. If you enjoy using 35mm/1.8 OSS which I have too, then GR is definitely very different. I very often carry both of them.

DealHugger

I think I would definitely pick A6600 for travels. A6600 is tougher and weather sealed, battery lasting way longer (GR is ~200 shots each battery). It is hard to predict what to expect when travel, having a zoom will definitely help. I also feel GR needs a bit of babying because of the dust issue for the sensor. Eye AF on A6600 is also convenient for travel photos, not to mention the video.

MPD1

Oh that's interesting to get your first hand experience of both, thanks. Maybe I didn't make the wrong choice then. I'll be honest I mainly use my camera on holidays or day trips, rather than dedicated photography outings. Sounds like the extra bulk of the a6600 may be worth it for my use then. I do sometimes miss my old a5100 paired with the Sony 35mm though, the size was just so great!

i went into the store today and had a look. they don't have as many variety selection as the bigger box. most of the biscuits were chocolates so i gave it a miss. however, not all is wasted as my local store had two boxes of vienese collections on clearance at half price so I got those last two boxes instead. they are better value than the £3 belgian selection box and they taste nicer as well, so good result (y)

I use the Ricoh app a bit, Google Photos to view and Touch Retouch to edit (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advasoft.touchretouch)

troi7765

What software do people use for viewing and editing the images/videos of these 360 cameras? I purchased the Samsung one but the software would never activate.

dte

I wonder how these type of cameras work when riding a bike. I'm looking for a camera that can record for few hours and not being too big.

iserlohn

The new software updates on this makes the video stabilisation as good as the Insta360 OneX, and the Theta V is less expensive in this deal and has better image quality for shots. Really recommended!

Good discount so you've got a good vote but...still feels like £50-£80 more dear than ought to be (mostly because a GoPro hero 7 black is about the same price). Indeed not like for like I know (rugged cameras are for stills, action cameras for video) but the whole segment of 'tough cameras' ought to step up their game much better than 'led microscope' mode. Pair it with thermal? LiDAR pulse? Radically different viewfinder? Shape-shifting design? PARTNER WITH TYSON FURY?

The RX100 III has a 20 mp sensor, which is 5472 x 3648 pixels. Normally work on 300 pixels per inch (ppi) for best quality, so you can easily print up to 5472/300 = 18 inches. You can print larger by reducing the ppi, as larger prints are normally viewed from further away, so the pixels are less likely to be noticeable. I've owned quite a few "1 inch" sensor cameras, and they definitely print larger than 6 inches.

gazcarts

I have the Sony RX10IV. It's a superb camera, with larger sensor, very sharp 600mm lens and extremely fast autofocus with eye AF. It is, however, very expensive, but I picked mine up used, in like new condition, from a UK dealer for £1k. Jessops regularly have 20% discounts on their used stock (Camerajungle). There's no built-in GPS, but I connect it to my phone using Bluetooth and that supplies the GPS coordinates. Not a "street camera" of course, but great for travel.

Master0fNone

Thanks for your input. So you're saying if I wanted to print an image 6" on the RX100M3, it would look just 'ok' and anything beyond wouldn't be worth printing as would lose quality? In this case, what are the benefits of the RX100M3 against a good camera phone?

locktheworldout

I compared the Canon GX7, RX100M3 and the Ricoh GR I, side by side in different situations a few years ago. Mainly because I thought the fixed 28mm of the Ricoh would leave me missing the zoom reach of the other 2 as a travel camera. I found the Ricoh images to be so sharp that I could match the zoom by cropping in post without losing any detail. I still own the Ricoh and have taken thousands of photos with it. It's not perfect, but once I owned one and learned it, it's a camera I never want to sell. I would love the GRIII for the image stabilisation and higher resolution, but it's too expensive for me. I'm a big GR fan now, it's a fabulous pocket sized camera for stealth street stuff (especially with snap focus), corner to corner sharpness for landscapes (although it's not as wide as a dedicated DSLR with wide angle glass). The Sony wins hands down for burst speed, video and better portrait focal length. I took one to Florida for a fortnight in 2014 and the shots looked OK up to around 6 inches, whereas I regularly turn the Ricoh shots to large acrylic prints with amazing details. They're both great cameras though.

SaladOA

Another vote for the RX100 being a more versatile travel camera. My only gripe with them is I would highly, highly recommend getting a little stick on grip for it as they are slippery as all hell. My old man has been shooting rx100s since the launch of the original and drops them endlessly. Note the plural there - given how much tech and moving parts they cram in to such a tiny body, almost every drop has been fatal to the camera in some way. I know that sounds bad but don't let it put you off. It is the best pocketable camera money can buy, even when somewhat tenuously counting the GR as pocketable.

lolz have to agree. you get what ya pay for,the reason why dual shocks and xbox controllers are 3 times the price. its all down to the quality.i picked up a nancon for my ps4 and its shocking. i understand it wouldn't be much cop for COD so use it for casual games such as Tomb-raider,God of War and Red dead,and its still pants. save up and buy a proper controller. :{

MrKrabs

They're pretty awful in my experience. Keep hold of that receipt, you'll need it

hellop4nda

This is a third party controller - while it may seem cheap, it is built to a price, so don't expect it to last as compared to an original one. Not trying to put them down, they're clearly good for the occasional having friends over schtick, but if you're looking to use it all the time, don't expect it to last as long. Heat either way - that's a decent price.

Has Amazon price matched this yet?

abonio

Takes good photos (compared to its immediate competitors) at 5376 x 2688, but it's not great for videos, so only a good buy if you want to take stills. 360 cameras have a lot of limitations, not least the small lenses and the fact that the image will be sharper in the two directions the cameras are pointing, and softer towards where the edges are pointing, but all (2 lens) 360 cameras have these limitations. The quality is like a decent-ish phone camera.
