COMARANTZ

I have discussed the warranty situation with the SAMSUNG call centre as I was concerned about the conditions. SAMSUNG confirmed it was limited to parts and labour and home visit would only be made after diagnosis by phone. This concerns me as any fault could be attributed to usage, maintenance and wear and tear, apparently not covered. Obviously extending the warranty with SAMSUNG is free, but CURRYS offer to extend the SAMSUNG 2 year warranty to 5 years for £100. It might be considered pointless but if the CURRYS warranty is purchased at the same time as the machine almost every situation is covered. From purchase of the machine and warranty there would also be cover for accidental damage and an annual service during the full 5 years. It depends if the SAMSUNG T&Cs are acceptable.

Spartan117b

Had ours barely 3 years, out of the 2 year warranty and its leaking water out of the front door.doesnt appear to have any holes in the rubber seal.never had a machine do this.total mystery

thatfeelswhen

I've had this machine for 5 years and it has been excellent, still works perfectly.

COMARANTZ

My original message was concerning the quality and usage of SAMSUNG machines, when compared to other brands. As SAMSUNG machines currently include a 5 year warranty, this has to be taken into account when comparing machines in the same total price band. If buying from CURRYS a £349 machine (without 5 year warranty) would cost an extra £170 to equate to this SAMSUNG. On that basis it would mean this SAMSUNG should be compared to a machine (with 5 year warranty) at a total price of £519. Alternatively if deducting the value of a CURRYS 5 year warranty from the cost of this SAMSUNG it would equate to another brand of machine costing £220 (with standard 1 year warranty). CURRYS washing machine extended warranties appear to offer a more comprehensive cover. Therefore if this SAMSUNG could be considered as £220 value, what other machine would anyone compare it with @ £220 (standard 1 year warranty) or @ £350 (with the added CURRYS 5 year warranty priced @ £130) ?

This isn't the same one. This has a bigger drum. And the prices of machines seem to get alot higher with a bigger wash capacity. So this AO deal that you have mentioned isn't comparable to this.

If this deal is not available right now, it's irrelevant. Having said that...this model was £340 back in May. Nice machine. (cheeky) Free installation is nice (that cost like £25 by itself).

I noticed yesterday that this had come down in price. Bought it the day before at £439, and it was £45 delivery & installation (which happened yesterday). Do they do price matching against themselves?

Bash_er

This is a decent washing machine. The 10kg one's use a much larger drum than the 8 and 9 equivalents. It also has the speed wash option, which throws water out of the top, you can see this in the picture with the open door. Crucially it has a 5yr warranty. I wouldn't buy any washing machine without one. They are all pretty horrendous to fix outside of warranty and invariably are thrown away.

Brackon82

Sounds like they just make them to break within a few years nowadays. I personally went for the LG which was posted on here this week, you should be able to claim a free 5 year warranty for it too https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lg-f4j6vy2w-steam-9kg-washing-machine-31520-wcode-at-hughes-direct-ebay-3262564 Samsung models also have 5 years, so I suppose there is not much difference, as this has a 10KG load so worth a bit extra.

Thanks for the education sadly I have been around long enough to understand how these things work and agree with you that it sounds absurd but thats why there is a design flaw its sensor logic does not work with the delay timer. From the instruction manual (of course I read it) "Delay End lets you set the end time of the current cycle. Based on your settings, the start time of the cycle will be determined by the machine’s internal logic. For example, this setting is useful for programming your machine to finish a wash at the time you normally return home from work" I totally agree with everything you say, machines have sensors which determine how long the cycle will be, the problem with the washer is that the way the machine senses the washing to determine the cycle time is part way through the actual washing cycle and not like other machines prior to starting. This does not just affect delayed start but any washing cycle that is not fully timed. What it does is sense in the first ten minutes of the wash how big of a load it is, how dirty and then determines how long the wash takes. Switch on a cotton wash it immediately says 1 hour and 10 mins, but 10 minutes in it has done its sensing and extends the time to 2 and a half hours even 3+ hours. Now put that into the delay and the machine only starts an hour and 10 minutes before it is due to end, then figures out its going to take longer and so you come in say as the instructions say from work expecting the washing to be finished and it still has over an hour to go. Of course you can try and alter the delay time as you said, but you wont get it right as the time as you dont know exactly how long the washer will determine it wants to take to do the wash and why should you on a washer with a normal price of nearly a grand (we didnt pay that though) The design flaw is that unlike other machines the washers logic is not clever enough because of the way it works to determine prior to starting how long the actual wash will take. The machine that it replaced could do it, the machine that replaced it could. Unfortunately because it decides how to wash in the first 10 to 15 minutes the Samsung cannot. Absurd, yes, contrary to my experience and what the instructions say yes, read the instructions properly of course get the delay to work nope, and thats why the CEO team agreed.

diktiomenos

I remembered reading something like this here previously, it stuck with me because honestly it sounds absurd and contrary to my experience with any washing machine I've seen so far. So I googled it, and it was you: https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/37394150 https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/37381594 The thing is, what you say doesn't make any sense at all. Washing machines have either a delay start or delay end function (save for the really cheap ones that haven't either). The delay start is pretty self-explanatory, the washer waits for X amount of hours (determined by the user) and it then starts the washing cycle. The delay-end, takes into account how long the cycle itself takes. So eg. if you ask the washer to finish in 6 hours and have selected a 2 hour program, it will wait for 4 hours and then start, so it will be done in 6 hours. The potential problem is that a 2 hour cycle is not necessarily exactly 2 hours, depending on the circumstances. Modern (decent) washing machines have a range of sensors to monitor the wash cycle and adapt their operation based on that. For instance, if you load a small quantity, it will shorten (on its own) a few phases of the wash and finish sooner. If you overload it (or put too much detergent and cause excessive suds), it will detect that too and take longer than anticipated. That's not a design fault, and it's actually commonplace. Our 10yo Miele does that, and you can actually see the timer occasionally appear to 'get stuck' at the same minute or jump several minutes. The solution of course is to select a slightly earlier finish time, so you can be sure that the wash is definitely finished by the time you want. But from what you've been writing, it just seems to me you just didn't bother to read the manual properly.

baladar

Dammit, I just bought that - if the Ecobubble had come up then, I would have had a tough choice on my hands.

greg666

Did you remove the transport bolts? We have this machine now for over 4 years and had never any issues with it at all. However, I forgot to remove the transport bolts in the beginning and this was indeed very loud and was shaking but after removal this machine rocks.

Have you threatened them with the small claims court? If that does not work you may have to threaten them to say you are getting your own report carried out which you will charge them for as well as the small claims court costs if the report finds in your favor (that you did not do anything to break it).

Wouldn't touch a Korean washing machine for all the tea in China.
