London & country...great brokers and used them for years...and they are …London & country...great brokers and used them for years...and they are free as they get their comission from the lender

They get commission from the lender so be wary that they aren't pushing a deal that benefits them more than you.

L&C advised my wife (then girlfriend) to take a crappy Northern rock 5yr fixed rate of 4% in 2011 (right when interest rates were at an historic all time low)

We tried them again two years ago when we were remortgaging just to cover as many bases as possible and I was able to find better deals than they came back with. Including simply remortgaging with our current provider.
Are these rates visible anywhere? I went through the app process to get an AIP but it still hasn't shown me the available rates anywhere, don't really want to do the full app with hard credit search without seeing the rate.
Why is everyone worrying about Brexit? Scaremongering. Once we get rid of those pesky foreigners and those remoaners either get behind Brexit or move to their beloved EU then we'll be great once again.... We'll be so rich we won't even need to borrow money for a mortage</sarcasm>

Seriously though, with Brexit hanging over us, I am very concerned about the housing market and the cost of borrowing going forward.

I'm going for the 10 year 2.49% HSBC mortgage. Unsure about whether rates will stay low for a long time due to Brexit but figured that I don't mind paying £1100 a month instead of £1000 a month to have certainty for a decade.

All Santander mortgages have this fee, it's their 'Account fee', as opposed to a 'Product fee'. You pay it when you pay off the mortgage, or if you leave Santander. It's BS, obviously, but that's banks for you!

Also there is no option to have a chip and pin card so if you are not a fan of contactless you will have to look elsewhere.Santander offer a free revert to a chip and pin card if requested.

True, it's £3000 a year minimum spend (giving £15 cashback by the way) but the Santander requires £600 a month just to cover the fee, which makes a £7,200 minimum yearly spend only to break even. Also with the AMEX, there are thresholds; below £5000, it's 0.5% cashback and over £5000, it's 1%. So, spend £7200 on the Santander - net profit zero. Spend the same on the AMEX, net profit £47! .. No contest!!
Not sure about your other point. My current card is chip and pin - no contactless - and doesn't expire until next year. Maybe they'll give me a contactless one then.

It's not as widely accepted as some other cards but, combined with a Nationwide card plus the Halifax Clarity for abroad, it's all you need.I had the original 123 credit card, which was great - until they increased the fee and cut the rewards, rendering it pretty much useless.

I don't know how it works but I assume your spending data is shared anonymously with some kind of marketing company who then bid for your data and assign offers accordingly
ses6jwg55 m ago

That's why. It's targeted depending on your card use.

It looks like data is shared though...
My main bank account is with Santander, and I use it only for salary and direct debits, I rarely pay with the Santander debit or credit card.
I have another bank account with Lloyds, which I rarely use, and which is linked to a Lloyds Avios credit card, my main credit card (I use it for 99% of my payments to collect air miles, I can't remember when was last time I used cash).
On both accounts, I get exactly the same cashback offers, with the same T&C, 99% of the times with the same % of cashback. Occasionally I get something extra on Lloyds, occasionaly something different on Santander.
e.g. yesterday I found a 10% cashback with Co-op on Lloyds and after few hours it was available also on Santander, although I shopped at Co-op for the first time few weeks ago (just to collect the free £5 with the Paypoint top up of my Amazon account) and never got cashback from them in the past (got twice from Morrisons, where I go only to buy Amazon gift cards and get the cashback, and lots of times with Waitrose, where I shop more often).
So if it's true that these offers are based on your card use, then it's likely there's a third party company which provides most of these offers to both banks, which collects personal data, shared on more than one bank account.

I am NEVER going to spend on this card - its purely for the free balance transfer - the £3 a month seems fair for what they are offering - 41 months x £3 is what it will cost me.

However I hope to have it paid off before then - and I don't have to worry about interest for a few years whilst I am paying it off ;-)
