Actually, whilst there are some / many fake reviews not all of us are into that, I took advantage of cheap & free myself (albeit selectively) I was in the top 1000 for reviews anyway, some of us bother to do as good as / more than amazons own select reviewers! Incidentally I used to put the option to the reviewer that it was honest or not at all, I would send them copy of my reviews (some 1500 word reviews for instance) on tech I enjoyed, the stipulation was that if I deemed the item rubbish they could opt not to have the review published, simple as that, & yes I reported those who insisted on 5 stars when whining that they wanted more, ..fo MPow it was pretty easy to do 4 stars upward, & I used to test out the customer service & rate that also based on my enquiry / requirements met ....do you still consider anything I did as "fake"!? Fake review algorithms are nowhere near perfect, however the amount of 2 -25 word "reviews" that "gimme morons" used made them stand out more often than not, as do the dates, however I used to turn in a review within 14 days, some were way easier than others to break down & analyse.. especially if it is your interest already (torches, batteries, solar etc).

ruffedgrouse

Be aware that these things (and virtually all other unbranded Chinese-made goods on Amazon) are polluted with fake 5-star reviews. Sellers offer these products - i.e. smaller, lower-value products - for free in exchange for positive reviews. The fake reviews still have Amazon's "Verified Purchase" label because the seller refunds the purchase after you've bought it. Make sure to run anything you buy on Amazon through a website like www.fakespot.com or www.reviewmeta.com. P.S. Anyone tempted to write fake reviews like this, Amazon will almost certainly close your account and ban you.

spamabsorbed

damn... missed those to (fierce) now £22 That's the old ones I've got I think.. still tempting at normal price (flirt)

Jim.N

I have 6 of the older Mpow ones which are nearly 2 years old and are still working fine with no issues Go for the Mpow ones they are the best (y)

Mr_Gus

Good results & customer service from MPOW ..worth buying all mine work fine from them (it's the other brands that have gone iffy) nowadays I only buy MPOW... glad it was OOS as I really cannot resist

Yup Poundland ones are great, bought some last year and a few have gone but most still going strong now.

meshuggahlad

I got one from poundland and it keeps filling up with water as well. I think this Wilko design looks a bit different so maybe it's better.

porsche911turbo

Give them a few weeks in this weather and they'll be full of water and dead. I even covered the top of the mini solar panel with clear adhesive tape and somehow the wet weather got into them (annoyed)

wishwish

As above I picked one up in poundland on Monday,am very impressed with it as for a quid I didn't expect much but it's working well.Hot deal from me as they didn't have the warm white there so will go and get a couple of that colour from Wilko.

PureMAD4

They sell these in Poundland. I bought a few for the garden. They have normal warm light solar led ones and colour changing ones

My local Sainsbury's also had other styles for varying prices but all reduced, worth checking even if this style isn't what you are after

neversay

Are there any makes that survive for the long haul?

ddaann_99

Most of mine lasted less than 18 months.

anca25

I had bought this model from Sainsbury's 2 years ago. They are still working. Good quality.

mysmugcat

Copper: actually even more a 'coppery' colour when seen.

Nonsense lovely light x

lynnhunter

So tacky

Quinoa

I'd be embarrassed to have that in my garden

tezray

Had mine a couple of days now and I am very impressed. Can’t comment on the battery charge or if they get enough light where they are placed but I will be removing my 150w halogen light and replacing with one of these or the next model up. I am very very impressed. I have a south facing garden so will be putting a few in the garden. The distance they sense is very impressive and how wide it senses also. I can rip it apart and put a better battery in with a bit of solder if I need a higher mah battery but my lights won’t go on often so I am not expecting problems. For £8 it’s definitely worth a go anyway

Straycat1967

Back in stock for those that missed out. Personally I prefer the 3 lighting mode MPOW versions, as this particular one only has the one mode. I'd consider this model of the MPOW from experience of using for the past 3 years. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mpow-30-40-66LED-Solar-Lights-Motion-Sensor-Garden-Patio-Wall-Fence-Lamp-Outdoor/401719082828?_trkparms=aid=555018&algo=PL.SIM&ao=1&asc=20140122125356&meid=beaf60dbe65d4cbfab4fd7f6c8eb997d&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=12&sd=273575826819&itm=401719082828&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Mr_Gus

Received mine this morning, the battery is now a soldered flat cap, (so bang go's the recharging via my xtar unless I fit an adapter to the battery for one off convenience. All BIN leds shining nice & evenly from a cursory look. always gutted when things become "soldered" in this sort of battery solar, makes checking it over & re-booting it harder when you suspect its at end of life (likely a dry joint). However i've had a winter out of my other of this model variant & alls well in terms of dry electronics.

meshosa

Missed this

Mr_Gus

try it in a left + right side blanking combo to filter out the sheer width of activation so it is more straight on (& down if possible)

Save your money, I've had 2 sets of them and only 2 out of each set actually worked. Returned without issue. I've had better ones from B&M to be honest.

I bought them last time when they been on sale (october 18). To be fair they are still working and I haven't seen any issues.

Ts1899

These never work well at all prob 3 work rest

Begize

Yep - absolute garbage as with most cheap solar lights. Complete and utter waste of money. Buy cheap, pay twice.

afroylnt

Very true, shame does not apply to Brexit..

swooper7

£8.99 landfill. Had these previous, work okay but batteries aren't up to much and slightest sign of wet weather will kill the internals.

Cold from me. "soft white glow" = underpowered LEDs. Bought the chrome set before but returned them. The light from the street lights reflecting off the chrome was brighter than the LEDs.

Thanks everyone for the reviews. Xx

Ripperoo

I have a twelve of these spread out along the fence, either side of the garden. Had them about a year and they have worked well and sensitive to come on even when a cat is passing through and produce a good light output for such a small unit. The only thing I didn't like was the colour of the light they output, but that is personal taste. I ended up getting some yellow transluscent film and opened up the units and positioned inside the opaque cover. Perfect for me now.

deels

These look good too. Thanks

lynn44

I purchased 2 for 19.99 last week (amazon), they have 2 year warranty and each light has 60 led , lovely and bright even in this dull weather

prash_2k

I got some 2 years ago. Stuck them up still going strong. Dim slight at sunset which turns bright when you walk past. 2-3 cloudy days will cause it not to work. It’s worked 95% of all nights

I bought a couple of these, and the solar panel just can't keep up with our dull winters. They were fine for a couple of weeks, but for the last fortnight they've failed to operate properly. If you turn them off for a couple of days they charge up enough to work, so it may be they have no discharge protection. They are very bright though, even when the PIR isn't triggered, they clearly illuminate a 4x8m area from a height of 2.5m. I'm going to take a look see if I can swap in a different resistor to dim them a little and string out the battery life.

Spud211

Thanks OP - they are still on banggood at this price, but also on amazon 2 for £18.89 if anyone wants them a little quicker. Obviously more expensive but not by much. Still, have heat and my thanks for the idea - I didn't know these things existed! Ive no issue replacing them every now and again, its still cheaper than my other option.

jasee

Replaceable bulb! These things use LEDs which usually arn't replaceable in such items

steveymp

5.8% Quidco too, for that price it would be rude not too (y)

credington

I had similar one. Failed after 3 months. Buy one with a replaceable bulb.

Are they not the ground spikes just inserted the wrong way round, I've had some before that were packed that way. Just pull them out and put them back the other way round..... or just bin them ;)

Master_Yoda

Did anyone who picked these up find that there are no plastic spikes on the bottom?(?). I just opened mine and they've put random pieces from flat packed furniture on the bottom lol - no spikes. Also the build quality is worse than I was expecting, even given the comments - there is nothing to stop water going in...

Domthedonkey

Luxform are a good brand but you're best putting them in a garden shed or similar over Winter .

Hondo

(highfive) (y)

leeds85

With these cheap lights there can be a gap between the solar panel and the case. Just open them up and go around the the gap with a glue gun to make it water tight and stop the rain getting in, should stop them getting corroded. Also give them a full charge if possible by taking the battery out and popping it into a charger till full or if the light has an off switch on them leave them off for a week or more in the winter before switching them on.

Is that what you call funny people, must be a right laugh around your house (party)

stevo6105

There is always one n*b head trying to be funny

steveieboy1

So don’t use them when it’s dark and you need them. (lol)

Franko64

Not very good at all, garden is littered with the remnants of the fallen! Start using them in the spring and you *may* get a season out of them if the weather is not too bad, any water will soon get into the inside and rust any crucial parts so just bin them at the onset of winter.... or just don't buy any in the first place.
