Now I wonder if I should return my fujifilm xa3

Clear cut for me, don't need to watch it. I owned one for several years and used it professionally which I 100% couldn't do with any camera phone. If you are taking holiday snaps and want something easier it might be different though!

Yea, it's a really good camera phone.

Didn't watch any then

Not so good for stills though. Full frame is even better, lower iso, much better dynamic range, shadow retrieval etc.

The Sony 18-105 F4G is loads better than the plastic mounted Nikon kit lens 18-105 F3.5 -5.6 VR, I had the Nikon as a kit lens on my original D90 and it was quite soft at the 105mm end and average corners at 18mm, the Sony stays sharp even at F4 (which is constant) especially from 35mm through to 105mm and it's sweet spot is usefully low at around F5-5.6. The Sony has great contrast and colour and its background defocusing effects at 105mm F4 are particularly noteworthy. The Sony is metal bodied, well made, dosen't rack out when zooming, is very fast to focus (unlike the nikon), totally silent and the power zoom is a godsend for videographers. It was a veritable bargain today at Amazon, you could have bought it, used it for a couple of years and then got your money back on Ebay, a better investment than money in the bank earning .02% with nothing to play with.

I highly rate 19mm and 30mm Sigma primes. 35mm Sony is nice as well. Sigma's af isn't as good as Sony's. And IS is worth having for family snaps as you're less likely to be using a flashgun. 50mm sel didn't agree with me (too long). But it's a great lens. 18-105 is a brilliant focal range. I used to have a Nikon lens like that. But from reading the reviews the Sony implementation isn't all that great.

The 18-105 F4 covers a wide range and is good for video's or the 16-70, there's a review on both below.

The best lenses VFM/Quality IMHO are the 19mm/30mm Sigma and 50mm SEL .. the 20mm Sony SEL isn’t as good quality and nowhere near as good value as the Sigma 19 but it’s so small I would probably get it if it’s ever deeply discounted as it’s so small and would be great as a standard travel cam lens. in terms of family pics (VFM/prime) the 50mm sel for portraits/outside and depending on your room size you might want to go with the sigma 19mm or 30mm ... or go with the 16-70 SEL zoom if you can stretch to it. Other than the kit lens (and manual Nikon primes) I have the 50sel (which is excellent) and the 30mm sigma (which I thought was ok but not as sharp as people make out) ..

Which is the best lens for home and family pictures?

i am not wasting anyones time by pointing out the list is suspiciously crap i didn't have any doubts amazon were eligible (they are not always) but that list has changed loads for other people just because it doesn't concern you doesn't mean its not useful to note how basically useless that list is

Please stop wasting everyone’s time. This is the official list, and Amazon is mentioned on it.

obviously i did click through to see the list and 'others' eh i am talking about how the used to have a proper list - that one looks like a mistake as hardly includes anything... then it includes everything via others

What are you talking about, that is the list from the promotion, click through from this: That “others” is included doesn’t remove Amazon from the list.

£469 plus the £100 cash back Sony offering. I suggest monitoring this throughout the day for the a6000 and a6300 as the price may drop even further but already the a6000 price looks good.

You're absolutely right, my apologies. I've edited my comment.

Grey import so no UK warranty, not sure why the likes of e global are so popular when the majority don't come with regional warranty in the country you reside in.

a6000 with kit is only a deal if 400 or less from uk seller this is only 14% below that so cold imo op also ignores the cashback available atm of 50quid, which will likely be doubled later on in the cashback period

You mean I wasted all that money on lenses when I bought this years ago? Strange, as it has a big circular hole on the front of it just the right size for e mount lenses

Need some help. Can anyone tell how warraty is honoured on these cameras? Do they come with uk warranty

Don't get me wrong, I have neither and you may be spot on, just parroting what I heard (lol)

I have an A7 original and an A6000, much prefer the output from the A7, greater tonality, much cleaner images, greater dof and low light is hugely superior. Also prefer it's handling with twin control dials and extra custom buttons plus it's not that much bigger than the A6000. Don't find the AF particularly slow for the kind of considered work I do and the auto white balance is better implemented. Only problem I have with it is the battery life and shutter noise but then it's not good on the A6000 either. The A7 is still relevant as the cheapest entry in to full frame especially for landscape shooters and those wishing to adapt legacy lenses on a budget, my A7 from Amazon was only £480 after I sold the kit lens after a Prime deal 18 months ago.

Yeah I agree that the processors on the smaller ones probably do a better job than the older full frame but it’s also down to whether you are shooting in auto or manually shooting, a manual shot should look better on ff aslong as you have a sharp lens on it and have the correct settings

Interestingly after I did some digging on camera forums, the consensus was the opposite. FF in general of course will beat APS-C, but the original A7 is quite dated now and struggles with most things (as it's harder for manufactures to do things like auto focus on a full frame). The FF version of this lens is also not as good as the APS-C namesake interestingly, performance is worse. Long story short, if budget allows an A7ii / iii then that'll be better, but the A7i isn't necessarily going to perform better than the APS-C line up.

The full frame of course will give better results

Thats right, they were only £239 with cashback, would be frustrating to pay more for second hand.

Different mount, this is E mount, the older lenses fit A mount and SR mount (MD/MC lenses). You can get adapters although the experience and results are not always great with the A6000. A bit better with the A6300 & A6500.

Do old Sony and even older Minolta lenses work with these mirrorless cameras? Or do they have a different mount?

It's still decent deal. Considering you cannot get them cheaper anywhere else at the moment. Great camera and good price. Voted hot

Yes, you'll be fine. Sony's wording could be better but it really means when it's purchased, hence you'll be fine. Best thing to do is put a claim in 31 days time, photo the serial number along with invoice. This deal is all wrong. The price is 50 quid more than yesterday's post, Argos are crap, and the cashback is from all authorised dealers and is offered by Sony.

Better in real life for most folk to be fair. Life isn't about spec sheets. Most folk want a flippy screen and pocket sized, hence the rise of the smartphone camera.

Oh dear...

How is a compact camera better than an interchangeable lens camera? It’s a good compact but a smaller sensor and can’t change lenses!

Just to point out it's not the retailer doing cash back It's the manufacturer.

For the serial number picture that's needs to be uploaded for cashback, can you just take it from the box, or do you need to take it from the camera itself? Don't want to open the box ideally

yeah you need to wait with sony did notice with olympus that they dont seem to have that delay which is a bit odd they did say claim could take up to 30 days which i thought was just a standard 'we are slow thing' but maybe its a delay to watch for return periods

Very tempting.. BUT STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.. They are based in China and most of their reviews are bad with a lot of nightmares faced by customers. It's best to pay 20-30quid more and have a peace of mind and a shop to take it back to..

Decent price, though It's £299 on Amazon almost the lowest it has been if you want UK warranty and piece of mind.

What about the viewfinder? I have a lovely camera, a Fujifilm X-A1 but it lacks this one feature and having picked up a Sony a6000 today I feel it makes a big difference.

not sure if i was clear it is a better camera - you know how crap the menus are in a5100! menus are similar but at least the a6000 gives you better manual control and memory settings... hotshoe etc to clarify the comment above... the a6000 is better or the same in basically everything BUT its worse for manual lenses and for video

Thanks for the advice. I’m best to stick with mine then. So difficult to find a camera that does everything that you want

unless you use manual lenses or do video in which case the a5100 is much better due to touchscreen
