This deal is all wrong. The price is 50 quid more than yesterday's post, Argos are crap, and the cashback is from all authorised dealers and is offered by Sony.

Mike_HUKD

Better in real life for most folk to be fair. Life isn't about spec sheets. Most folk want a flippy screen and pocket sized, hence the rise of the smartphone camera.

nokiafusion

Oh dear...

How is a compact camera better than an interchangeable lens camera? It’s a good compact but a smaller sensor and can’t change lenses!

arch68

Just to point out it's not the retailer doing cash back It's the manufacturer.

Just had my claim accepted despite being 2 weeks late

adsham

Are you getting an error? Maybe try a different browser?

Thomas_page-brown

Yeah I forgot. I’ve been trying for the last couple of days but it won’t progress past the claim page. Anyone else had the same problem?

adsham

Just in case anyone has forgotten - don't forget to claim the cashback. Mine was accepted a couple of days after submitting.

brilly

yeah you need to wait with sony did notice with olympus that they dont seem to have that delay which is a bit odd they did say claim could take up to 30 days which i thought was just a standard 'we are slow thing' but maybe its a delay to watch for return periods

obviously its m4/3 - but its a definite alternative and as a standalone package is much more versatile than this one

That's a micro four thirds sensor I believe.... Nice camera but just be aware of the sensor size when comparing to APS-C..... Mainly effecting low light iso performance

Very tempting.. BUT STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.. They are based in China and most of their reviews are bad with a lot of nightmares faced by customers. It's best to pay 20-30quid more and have a peace of mind and a shop to take it back to..

What about the viewfinder? I have a lovely camera, a Fujifilm X-A1 but it lacks this one feature and having picked up a Sony a6000 today I feel it makes a big difference.

brilly

not sure if i was clear it is a better camera - you know how crap the menus are in a5100! menus are similar but at least the a6000 gives you better manual control and memory settings... hotshoe etc to clarify the comment above... the a6000 is better or the same in basically everything BUT its worse for manual lenses and for video

boltont

Thanks for the advice. I’m best to stick with mine then. So difficult to find a camera that does everything that you want

unless you use manual lenses or do video in which case the a5100 is much better due to touchscreen

Agree with the sigma 30mm f1.4 great lens

basergorkobal

Great deal. The kit zoom is rather poor optically but very compact. So worth having for travel. But I would advise buying separately and second hand. A 30mm Sigma prime is the lens to get for this camera IMO. The 19mm and 60mm are also great and quite inexpensive.

VimesUK

Good point. I did read a little about that and whilst there are so many adaptors out there I'm not sure if people are expecting too much from them, in terms of features that they allow, but I'm just getting to understand focus peaking and manual focusing so indeed that could be the way forward. Thanks :)

VimesUK

Thanks for that. I was looking at the Sony 16-70 as it seemed to offer me what I would like, as most of my photographs of people and group occasions etc are taken within that range. And it offers me stabilisation as well built in, I found that useful when using the 50mm lens in poor light as it seems pretty good at allowing me to reduce the shutter speed quite low and still get some great shots. The only downside, apart from the price, is the size of it. That couldn't be said of the pancake lens though...!

spatter

Or buy a bunch of old Minolta Rokkor lenses and an adaptor and go manual focus! With the focus aids on the camera it's really easy and you get amazing glass for not much money...

"all stores seem to be very happy to split transactions and all expected cashback has tracked and been paid out." ...wow "Customer Service will tend to put anything right if you've met the conditions and something didn't track correctly"... do I explain I bought one item but got the store to process as 3 payments to enable multiple claims ? I might run it past AMEX customer service beforehand - they are usually pretty reliable

morgie

From the original deal thread and some others like this that have been posted all stores seem to be very happy to split transactions and all expected cashback has tracked and been paid out. Amex deals are very reliable and their Customer Service will tend to put anything right if you've met the conditions and something didn't track correctly. All of my cashback came through in a few days as expected.

n3m3s1s

Great deal if you are a member of Gamblers Anonymous ... the bonus is, the cleaning tissues can be used to cry into, when you don't get the two extra £50 cashbacks

morgie

Thanks for speaking with them. Did you speak to someone in Brighton or India? Their advice really doesn't sound right based on the wording on the Amex offer. Has anyone tried the same card multiple times yet? I've asked over in the main Amex deal thread too.

Lovely camera, I've had one for over a year now... staggered they're still so expensive tbh.

wattstodbm

I recently picked up a A6300 and Sigma MC-11 EF to E Mount adapter (non Sigma A, C, S lenses only work with single shot and continuous focus on the A6300, no Sony Eye AF or Tracking), but the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 works great, unsure about the Tamron or function with the A6000 but there are plenty of reviews on YouTube etc. Coming from a Canon 7D the A6300 seems a lot sharper and faster to focus, I believe this A6000 is still pretty good and would probably be a upgrade whilst being more portable, worth checking out for sure!

woldranger

I'm toying with the idea of downsizing from my Canon 550d and this is one of the bodies that ticks a lot of the boxes. The obvious issue I have is the cost of the glass as I bought both the Tamron's 17-50 VC f2.8 and my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 used for about £550. I'm pretty happy with my setup but when I'm travelling, having a smaller, lighter one would be preferable. (I only take the Tamron and a cheap Canon 55-250 IS with me as the sigma is way too big!)
