Maybe for a quartz, but not for a mechanical automatic it isn't. It's largely the entry price point for these things.

i would have thought that a sweeping mechanism is quite expensive as it … i would have thought that a sweeping mechanism is quite expensive as it is extreme precision to get the small hand to do this, then to have a quality watch product that appear quality in your hand as to feel and looks, only for £30 is hard to achieve, even in the far east. £200 may be but £30? really? £30 doesn't go very far these days even in the far east!

You can buy a cheap Chinese watch for £10 that has a 'sweeping' second hand (i.e. a beat rate that is upward of 18,000 bph).

It's not exactly a new invention. It's only since Quartz tech came along that watch second hands move at 3600bph.

Here is a good starter explanation.

Eventually sold it for spare or repair, got pennies back for a £1,200 watch. I'd pay the extra for the non battery model if I was to buy another in the future.

The showers are what killed it.
My comment should have read "not for swimming ".

I don't go to the local pool with my tag on, so don't need the specialist sealing, which I think is a massive con.

So are you saying Ernest Jones arent a reputable outlet?
Automatic watches have their detractors (accuracy +/-5 sec per day >>> +/- 30 sec per day is useless if you have to have precise accuracy), they are more expensive and some (Swatch, for instance), use cheap metals, springs and !plastic! in the movement for built in obsolescence (last week, I was wearing a 40 year old Citizen) and they tend to be more expensive new.
But, there is no battery....

Mind you, they still like to be serviced every few years.

Unless you are going to use for swimming, you can get the batteries … Unless you are going to use for swimming, you can get the batteries replaced for a few quid, as they don't need resealing, which Imo is a massive con.I've got a tag link sl, f1 and a grande chronograph and refuse to pay the ridiculous amounts goldsmiths want.when my wife's tag stopped functioning properly after a mere 2 years they wanted £245 for servicing it.I took them to small claims court under eu legislation and they paid me the £245 repair fee.

Honestly, what's the point of them listing a watch that is sold out? All the good automatic watches listed that are worth their salt appear to be sold out. The nice automatic Oris watches, for example, around the sale £500 are all sold out. Just a crafty way to palm off a load of sub £1000 naff fashion quartz watches and mix them up with decent "sold out" sub £1000 automatic watches ... clever sales tactics going on here. Don't fall for the prices of the watches over £1000 - generally all poor sellers and not particularly respected amongst watch afficionados.

I even spotted a woman's tag heur quartz watch for around £800 ... give me a break!! lol ... it has it's place and i don't mean to be snooty, but not at £800.

This website is all about well informed value - £5000 spent wisely is better than £500 spent poorly. A lot of stuff here in the latter category.

I might have missed a gem here ... all I am saying is tread carefully, because I spotted a lot of overpriced poor sellers here (don't get me wrong, some of them are decent watches ... but appear to be really overpriced).
