I'm looking to build a PC to run the likes of Warzone - I'm not too fussed about 4K (1080 would be nice haha). I'd also like to use it as my Plex storage system (so decent HDD space). My budget is around £450... what would you recommend? I've seen a few on AWD-IT and they seemed a bit out of my range for the ones that were being sold as 'able to play Warzone etc'. Thanks in advance.

Can I take you up on your kind offer? I'm looking for something that will run Oculus quest link (https://support.oculus.com/444256562873335/) Really I want to spend as little as possible, and would be willing to go up to maybe.. £750. Thanks in advance!

The number of drives would be that high because you can stack drives on top and bottom of each drive afaik (I haven't done it myself but I'm pretty sure you could if you wanted to. Also two 2.5 drives would go on top the PSU bay

supermann

Looks good. I'll admit, I want this case partly because I can more easily convert it into a gaming rig further down the line.

Dog.

It's all personal taste when it comes to aesthetics and it also depends on your use case, but I think there's better cases out there for cheaper. For example I've got an matx motherboard in my media centre pc so I bought a Thermaltake s100 for £40 recently to replace what I had. Highly recommended it. Plus it has tempered glass as opposed to acrylic.

emmpii8

Yep it's the same. Bought it the last time this deal was posted for £65

supermann

Looks good. Is that the same model or the h440?

ITS HERE. Using my xray vision as to not void the warranty (although it says you can upgrade as long as you dont damage anything) I can see the Asus mobo, Asus gfx and Crucial ram (single slot used) WD blue spinning HDD, generic dvd drive and generic 350w psu (expected) 3 fans, 1 front 2 top. Looks like one could be moved to the back / all 120mm etc SSD is in and she runs not too bad! Also looks like someone bagged the last one direct from zoostorm so expired. (y)

marteee

This old chestnut - that's NOT comparing like for like. That would involve a legitimate purchase from an authorised reseller

Hal900

:| I want to upgrade pcs, but I'm also wanting something cheap and I've also spent ages trawling through part pickers and I would like to build myself, but if I DIY build I cant as easily return (not worth getting into reasons why) But I'm also the person who would spend £50 more to get X, but then I'm also the sort of person who would spend another £50 more to get Y, and then by the end of it I've settled on spending £342 more than my original budget for no real reason other than 'its better' I'll admit it.....best example of this is I once purchased a £230 motherboard just because it was the 'best' AM3 board at the time and I had all the greatest plans for it and it would be amazing. At one time I had triple crossfire cards running, was it worth it, did I really use all the features? Nope. (annoyed) I also vividly remember spending £104 on 4GB of RAM because it had gold heat spreaders to contain the SPEED (embarrassed) I'm sure it was also probably the fastest / best RAM I could get at the time. Anyone remember 10,000 rpm HDDs? There were no SSD's back in my day and we made do! XD Literally this pre-build is enturely cheaper than 1/4 of the components I had in my last PC, even if it was many years ago and should be roughly 700% faster (lol) . Hope you didnt buy the one from Argos for more, but yeah seems entirely ok for the price. (y)

pablo_el_diablo

My logic is that there will be new AM5 and DDR5 available within 2 years from what I read. I want a decent system to serve me for at least few years to come, but don't want to spend hundreds as I'm not really a gamer, but would do with extra cores and speed. We'll see what will happen when 3100 and 3300X hit the market..

davejb

this kind of pc isnt really for someone who wants to upgrade pcs. so for its price its not bad for what it is. its a cheapo pc for someone who doesnt really know about pc's and doesnt want to spend hours trawling through part pickers and comparing the pros and cons of each component or building a pc themselves.. they can buy this and plug in a power lead, turn it on and job done. looking at the retail price for the i5 7400 and the gtx 1050ti theyre averaging over £300 for the pair. so for £389 for the lot thats quite reasonable... its in that awkward price bracket where for £50 more you can get something better.. but end of the day its another £50.. if youre on a tight budget and need to stay under £400 for a ready built system its not bad.

Further update An update and support of this post. I registered my 4tb I bought from them. The warranty expired back in September, but western digital just emailed me (last 10mins) confirming that it's an OEM hard drive and not for individual resale.

nekuth

Ordered the larger 4tb drive from them, put it in my PC, and it doesn't want to run. registered the warranty, EXPIRED SEPTEMBER 2019

Scallum

Do they? 5400 rpm is fine for storage. PC HDs need to be SSDs!

WARNING, WARNING seriously under packing. These are not retail drives, so are 'packed' by 'Amazon style' packer (item put in the bottom of the box, then the packing put in........) Ordered one, but there packing of these OEM drives are very questionable. Rather than packing the drive totally protected, the drive I received was packed sideways (IE with the drive almost at the top and bottom of the rectangle box with one layer of thin bubble wrap arounfd it so was the only protection from the top and bottomof the box. If they pack these by laying them in thbe box it would have at least an inch of protection all the way round

Haha. Hey I know I'd spend a bit extra not to have to have a case like that and save the hassle of selling the second gpu. Anyway, I never said it wasn't a good deal but for the money you can build a better alternative if you're smart. £780 would be a quick shop for those parts. Looking at some deals the past few days you could easily knock another £50 off.

ezo

Wasn't the price discussed under 800? ;)

Jordan_Taylor

Still would be less than £999 and with a upgrade path

ezo

Cool, only missing an OS a storage drive and wifi card.

johnw84

It shouldn't be that hard really. 2700x approx £150 Motherboard - £70 16gb Ddr4 - £70 500gb nvme - £70 5700xt - £320 (they've been this price with ebay deals etc) Case - £50 Psu - £50 That's £780 but I'd say a stronger build than the i7 7700. Everything straight from amazon apart from the gpu. If you're willing to wait or use amazon warehouse you could save more too.

Yes that's helpful, thanks. Just wanted to check it wasn't really loud or anything. I'm watching that video and it seems very capable, so I'll just go for it. Cheers (y)

Nautilus186

I never really notice the noise during normal operation if that helps. It also depends on how well your case is cooled. I have 3 intake fans at the front and 3 exhaust fans one at the rear and two at the top.

edanfalls

Thanks for the info. What about noise? I'm not too bothered about the temps. I know that usually if the temps are low, the noise will be low as you can turn the fan profile down. But I know also that there are exceptions - I've always found the CM 212 to be annoyingly noisy even at low speeds, for example.

Nautilus186

I think this is the video.

an OEM perpetual licence is hardly a huge cost on ebay (and legit as much as some would like you to think otherwise) - as to home I would suggest having pro with its built in hypervisor worth the extra few pence. Most parts bought individually will have longer than 12 months warranty The stronger counter argument is the cost in your time and effort but if willing then there is no comparison in the net result.

jheales

Add Windows 10 Home and one year's warranty to this.

Vomit

Oh noes.... Why are the A series chips still on sale

Bertz99

a 1050ti is a 75 watt gpu coupled with a 65 watt apu - that does not realistically leave much else to run with on a 180 watt psu. Although as per your earlier comment there may be pop, bangs and bams ;)

Interesting video. This is good to know.

Whitedot

TL:DW - up to and including a GTX 1070, RAM speed seems to make very little difference to frame rates. On almost every RAM deal there's someone saying Ryzen 'needs' fast RAM but unless you're using a high end GPU (and the machine is this particular deal definitely doesn't have one) then the benefit is negligible at best.

Not everyone wants to work all day on a laptop so add a monitor, keyboard and mouse........ Windows still works ok on Athlon 2 CPUs if you have 4gb RAM or more. I know people working on them fairly happily. I certainly wouldn’t.

Whitedot

If anyone's PC is that old they'd probably struggle with installing Windows. ;) You'd probably want/need a new monitor; so add another £50-£60 and suddenly you're virtually at the price of that HP Ryzen laptop that's superior in basically every way possible.

chtyrone2

I have three Zoostorms in the office now. One i5 which was bought about 6 years ago. Changed the PSU immediately. Added cheap graphics card. Has been running dual screen for all those six years. Never a bother out of it. I have since bought two 2nd hand for about 60 quid each. Both 64bit. PSUs alrady were previously changed. SSD drive bought for 20 quid. 8gb memory bought for a tenner. Both have 1gb graphics cards (bought for a tenner) running dual screens. Windows 7 on them. I had a brand new HP i7 last week - running win10 off a HDD and 16gb RAM - and it was dead compared to the Zoostorms. It is what you make of them..

iceburglettuce

For browsing the web and basic office tasks it would be fine. Especially if replacing a really really old PC with a windows licence that can be transferred. Although I guess you could get a cheap android box - £25, plug in a mouse and keyboard and do the same stuff - assuming you are not using any special windows software.

All gone :/

Depends on what you want as that has ryzen 5 this has a ryzen 7 in terms of performance in gaming they are almost identical as the single and quad core performance between the two are almost the same the graphics cards are basically the same in terms of performance but the GTX 1060 will use less power and typically quieter as standard the AWD stronghold has No operating system (windows) installed, a cheaper case 8gb of ram vs the stormforces 16gb and a 240gb SSD vs the 1TB HDD in the stormforce, and also no wireless but if you are doing any online gaming you don't really want to be using wireless. ultimately if you specify the AWD computer to a similar spec to the stormforce then it is going to cost around £725 but it will also include 3 triple A games. so it is sort of down to what you want.

goemon

Going from 2400mhz to 3400mhz will net around 2-5fps gains. however if your 3200mhz kit has much looser timings then the 2400mhz ram then you will typically only gain 1-3fps. so if you were going to get a ram speed upgrade then also get the kit with the lowest/tightest latency timings. The gains are not that significant because the CPU is feeding a GTX 1060 so the ram is not much of a bottleneck in this instance, however if it was feeding a more powerful GPU like a GTX 1080 then the faster ram would indeed produce significantly bigger gains in FPS usually 10-20fps and in some instances even more. but for the extra monetary expenditure in the 3200mhz ram you would be much better served by getting a better graphics card in the first place. Assuming you sell your 2400mhz ddr 4 on ebay for £80-85 you pay postage and fees and you are left with £65-70 you need to add at least £60 to this to get new 3200mhz ram or if you want faster ram spend even more This extra £60 is very close to the amount you would spend going from the cheapest GTX 1060 6gb to the cheapest GTX 1070. In this situation it is a no brainer that you would get the GPU upgrade. However I believe that it is not necessary as in its standard specification this is a very well balanced system with no part significantly outperforming any other part, and making drastic hardware changes like changing the RAM would also invalidate the 3 year warranty. I would simply add an SSD preferably of 500gb or above and this system will be a solid 1080p performer for quite some time. and based on the price of components if you custom built this with the same exact parts all new from amazon or similar retailer you would struggle to do this for the same price especially if you include a retail copy of windows 10.

superted2008

how does this compare to the deal posted earlier today if you upgrade the spec of the other pc to a similar price as this one? https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/awd-stronghold-2600-six-core-39ghz-rx-580-8gb-desktop-gaming-pc-49994-awdit-3176575

I dont know if anyone ordered this. But just for giggles i thought i would get one for an older computer to see if it might look a bit more modern. For £35 i am extremely impressed. The Tempered glass panels on both sides are excellent, the overall built quiality is brilliant including cable management, disk storage solutions. It has teo RGB fans to the front, Two on Top and 1 rear along with the RGB panels. They are all controlled via a button on top of the case, but they go through a fan controller in the case so could be connected to an RGB header on motherboard easily enough. I am going to try and do a quick youtube review at some point as i couldnt find anything else on this case and i think it deserves a bit of good feedback at this price point.

This is a pretty good price for a case including RGB fans and strips and tempered glass panel. Only thing is i cant find any reviews / videos or other sellers off ebay to see whether this case is easy to build, offers good airflow and so on. For a budget build though you cant go wrong!

Received mine yesterday. The GFX card is faulty and they have told me to return and get it exchanged or send out a new graphics card (after receiving the existing one) and accept liability should I mess up installing it. S means having to wait in twice for a return and receipt! Either way, poor quality control and a lot of time already wasted in getting this sorted.

Aria PC seem to have better prices on these atm.

TehJumpingJawa

Yes, all Ryzen motherboards have 4 PCIe 3.0 lanes for the 1st m.2 slot. The 2nd m.2 slot that some motherboards have vary on connectivity, either PCIe3.0, PCIe2.0, or SATA only.

blue_eyes777

Thanks. I've just ordered this to clone from the hard drive: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CGGNX7S?ref_=pe_3187911_248764861_302_E_DDE_dt_1 It's a little more expensive compared to the cost of the system but fast boot up speed is important to me. Does anybody know if the motherboard on this deal has 4 pcie lanes to accommodate this drive or do I need an adapter?

The white version is still £20 if you didn't mind the colour.

Kooo

Hot from me but it's £24.99 now ;( Can please anybody comment if it's still worth getting for a fiver more? Any alternatives? Thanks.

Mine arrived. Wow - so nice quality. Three huge fans probably would have cost 20 alone!! Love the 3.5 screwless slots (two sata bays pre-installed) Love the 2.5 mounts (i found two) Hate how many holes are on top and on the sides...had to tape them up to get the air flowing all in one direction. (can't tell it's taped from the outside though) I had a full size atx board i jerry rigged into a mini atx case (PSU and water cooler hangs outside the box!)...it now finally has a proper home and it's one of the most compact full size atx boxes!

JOHNNY_WILKINSON

If you wanted to purchase the two fans which are included with this case you'd be looking at around a tenner so I think it's a towering deal.

Some people accuse me of being negative, so I didnt mention the rumour they werent a very good system builder. Nice name though. InWin were one of the makes I took a seriously long look at before buying my current Phanteks case; they make some very good, understated cases for very little money; even at £40 odd, this is a worthwhile purchase.

Indeed, buy Zoostorm i3 4130, 4150, 4160 boxes off ebay goes about £120 with 8 gb ram and a terabyte storage. fast as snot for a surfing rig. Ignore celery rubbish. ACTUALLY, YES, found it; https://ark.intel.com/products/87257/Intel-Celeron-Processor-N3050-2M-Cache-up-to-2_16-GHz 2 CORE/2 T CPU, https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+N3050+@+1.60GHz&id=2541 881 cpu marks (about 2002 pc performance). 8 watts. FCBGA1170 laptop chip,Ball Grid Array. (soldered). Only 4 pci-e lanes, its worse than that, its DEAD, Jim!

I bought a laptop with almost exactly this spec 4 years ago for about this money (give or take a fiver). To pay the same now for a refurb desktop unit is, by comparison, very, very poor value. This should be stone cold. You can buy a refurb i5 machine for £90 here: https://itzoo.co.uk/collections/pc-base-units/products/refurbished-lenovo-m81-sff-desktop-pc-i5-3-10ghz-4gb-500gb-win-10-home

>>>Plenty of USB ports including USB 3.0 too (8 in total). Not that it is a big deal, but I can only see 6 USB ports, 2 on the front (1 USB 3.0) and 4 on the back (2 USB 3.0) I do notice on the front there seems to be an open/close button (on the right) so that may indicate a CD/DVD drive. If you look at the images on that web page the last of the 6 images shows an "Intel i5 Inside" which is a bit strange on a PC running a Celeron !!! Also I note the description for the PC says "delivering blazing fast performance and lightning fast data transfer speeds."

Pakman

Could you point to anything with a better spec for a similar price?

Not really 2.16ghz base clocked at 1.6ghz. You get these low power processors in tablets and notebooks for their low power consumption which is useful for portable products. With this your getting poor performance but no portability, no screen, no keyboard etc. Personally I would go for something like this if could put up with such a slow device and use the money saved to bump up the ram perhaps.

My moneys on a cheap PSU taking out the motherboards.

ws007

It wouldn't be if it's out of warranty and the PSU blows and takes out the motherboard CPU and Gfx card :/

Lowtrawler

My guess is that the PSU fried the motherboards. The cheap PSU in these are very unlikely to give consistent currents and voltages. Decent motherboards will cope with some variation but the cheap motherboards in these will just give in. Ultimately, it's the PSU which is most likely to cause problems.

pimpMe

You don't need to spend that sort of cash, unless you want to of course, for an office machine you could do worse than buy from: https://itzoo.co.uk/collections/pc-base-units I bought an i-5 3470s from them several months ago and its been switched on 24/7 and used to stream to Twitch. Been flawless so far and only cost £160 with an SSD and 8gb memory. Monitors are 10 a penny, £100 gets you a 24' that will suit an office environment..

pimpMe

Hardly, what would be the chances of 2 motherboards failing in two seperate computers both within 24hrs? Don't forget the hassle of time off to accept deliveries and trips to post office to send back the defective PC's. Bad experience, yes. Bad luck, stretching it a bit there....[as luck has f**k all to do with it, either poor workmanship or bad quality components, nothing unlucky about it].
