10% off! - Using promotional code SAVE10 @ 16-25 Railcard

Found 22nd May 2013
Ok, this is my first post. I have looked on the site for the same offer being posted but all I could find was a 10% off voucher.

As I was in the process of filling out my application for a 16-25 Railcard I decided to see if there were any promo codes around and I found: STUDENT20 which gives you 20% off.

I can confirm that it works and will give you a screenshot in a minute. The voucher brings the £30 card down to £24 and gives you 1/3 off train travel across Britain. It also gives you discount on London Day Ticket which allows you on the underground, buses etc.

So simply enter "STUDENT20" where is say 'Promotional Code' to get an easy £6 off your railcard! It could work with 3 year railcards but I haven't tried so I wouldn't want to say.

Unfortunately I have no idea on when this voucher will expire.

But Tesco Clubcard vouchers are
1) Worth £30 at the moment in certain departments with the Clubcard Exchange
2) Worth 4x their value in restaurantvouchers

Also, you need 1500 Clubcard points to be able to use them on a railcard and most people aren't going to have that. Thanks for the info though.
Did they raised the price of railcard? I remember buying this for £22.40 before. What a world.

Unfortunately, yes. I think it was on 20th May that they did it. I was going to have completed the application before then but I had a few problems with trying to upload my photo so I had to pay the new rate!

I've just paid for the railcard and it has gone through for £24. The screenshot proof image is awaiting moderation so should be available for you soon.

I don't know if you can get discount soley on buses but I know that if you get the Day Travelcard you get the discount.
Good deal, crap card. Basically you can't use it on the train to college in the mornings so not great for students oddly!!! Not valid between 4.30 -10.00 am

You can use these at any time of the day, I used main for a 5am train to London only a couple of days ago.

It's also worth looking up who operates on the lines you are using and book your ticket through thier website. For example transpennie give you 50% with a student rail card rather than 30% if you book through their sites.

You can link it with your Oyster card at any underground ticket office, brings Zone 1-2 down to £1.40 per trip, and buses are cheaper though can't remember by how much.
You definitely can't use this card during morning peak-hour UNLESS the fare is over £12, so no good for the morning commute to uni as per the taylope1. Thankfully I only have lectures starting before 10am once a week.

" Can I use my 16-25 Railcard at any time of day?

Yes you can. However, for all journeys made between 4.30am and 10am Monday to Friday a minimum fare of £12 is payable. There is no minimum fare when you travel at weekends, on Public Holidays, or during July and August.

If you travel regularly before 10 am, then a weekly or monthly season ticket may be more appropriate, though you won’t be able to get a Railcard discount."

Voted hot, bought mine in January using a 10% off code from HUKD! Nice fine.

It does seem to have expired, unfortunately, but the code SAVE10 still works for 10% off. That's £3 off which isn't too bad.
Convincing

You 'connect' it to your Oyster card by filling in a form at the station. You don't get a discount on buses though, but a discount on any OFF-PEAK tube fares & travel cards, and lowers the daily off-peak price cap (which includes buses).

Click on the 'railcard' tab on here and it tells you exact prices: tfl.gov.uk/tic…spx

Nah its been both 20% and 10% before, ah well.
Bought mine and used this code, thank you. Heat added.
Thankyou !
Thanks, BF was just about to invest in one!
How ridiculous that they keep putting up the price for this every year / every other year then dish out codes to make it look like it's been discounted!!!! Students should get cheaper rail FULL STOP. They shouldn't even have to pay for this stupid card. Makes me so mad and I'm not even a student, so imagine how they feel with their £9k fees on top!!!

It was a 20% voucher but then it expired and I found a 10% voucher code.
Off peak trains the same price as on peak for me now. Going to have to start taking the bus when mine runs out.

Why on Earth shouldn't it go up every year? Everything else increases in price every year - including rail fares...

And why should students get cheaper rail FULL STOP? I personally think it's a good scheme, and it saves me £100's a year, but I don't see why I have some sort of almighty right to cheaper rail fares just because I happen to be studying?

Being a student myself, I've never come across another student that is "mad" about having to pay for it (though most uni students can get them free via Santander anyway) so I don't know why you're so worked up. And how exactly do tuition fees come into this argument? Tuition fees pay for tuition, they aren't subsidising the railways.

You're a very strange student if you're happy with how things are for students these days, but that's your choice!

Maybe it is "strange", but then I've never been a sheep. Nor am I ignorant, greedy and selfish (which is exactly what demanding other people pay for your education etc. is).

Sounds like you're all sorted... now let's start thinking about the less fortunate who have to give an arm and a leg to still pay for their education. Everywhere gives student discounts for free, all I'm saying is, rail companies are benefiting from students by forcing them to pay to get a discount, which elsewhere, they'd be entitled to anyway. If you have different views to the norm, that's your problem, and it's best to keep them to yourself or a closed community as most students are seriously suffering today - not sure which world you're living in mate!
