Always liked H&M, couldn't believe the backlash they got over that jumper ordeal. People just go looking for things to get offended about these days.

Agreed. Ridiculous scenes. Some people just love being offended and/or virtue signalling.
Some people are stupid. Personally I will never support h&m again. They knew what they was doing, but they were being ignorant. Why did it have to be that animal on a black person? Since when was 'coolest monkey' a saying? Why didn't they go with coolest lion, tiger, elephant? They would never dress a Caucasian person in a jumper saying 'coolest cracker'. Someone on here was complaining about asda boys and girls clothes, how little girls clothes have words like 'adorable' 'cute' etc with pics of barely dressed cartoon princesses but boys have tops with 'future astronaut' etc. People are all over sexism and political correctness for the lgbt community. But they all turn a blind eye to racism like it doesn't exist anymore. Don't be ignorant.

Each person has different views reall. The jumper came into sale kind of a week before king Luther assassination anniversary, any coincidence, who knows. My view is the
Cheeky monkey was ok but also writing in the jungle takes it a little bit far as the ethnic minorities are still fighting for rights.

We all know that “monkey” is sometimes used as a racial slur to towards black people. The term is never used as a racial slur towards white people, so yeah, a white kid wearing it has no racial connotations.

Ok perhaps there should be a filter, "white appropriate clothes" black appropriate" and one which is ok for both.

Based on your logic, we should not take black kids to the zoo incase they're offended when they come across the monkeys.

Well obviously this is not one such occasion where people turn a blind eye to racism, as there’s been an uproar and the product has been removed.

Children are often referred to as ‘cheeky monkeys’ and this is clearly what the slogan was referring to. His mother didn’t have a problem with him modelling it...I really don’t see why anybody else should.

When do you ever hear parents call their kids lions or tigers? How often do you hear them call their kids little monkeys? That there is the reason why the jumper said 'coolest monkey's.

If there was even a hint of racism, why would the parents allow it? Personally I think H&M has thought the world has moved far enough where people don't even relate monkeys and ethnic minorities anymore. You can't compare this to calling a white kid a cracker because parents have never referred to kids as little crackers have they? They have called them little monkeys for years.

I'm mixed race and have experienced racism before so if I genuinely thought they were then I wouldn't defend them. Sorry but you're going to have to find something with a better arguement to be offended about.

Erm...if the zoo keeper calls the black kids a monkey, then you have a problem. No issue otherwise.

Spot on...
As someone who isn't white, I would happily let my son wear that too...he's a right cheeky monkey.
Are there any codes for full price items please?
Oops I wanted to vote hot but wasn't able to log in! Came back especially. Thanks OP I got myself some treats sorry not to give you heat when I should have

as for the cheeky monkey debate, I think ironically it's those who equate monkey with racism that are causing regression. Ending racism means that when you see a black child being called a monkey it's no different to seeing any child being called a monkey, ie harmless teasing. I agree that if anyone is going to be bashed it should be the parents not checking what their child models, but presumably they didn't have any negative connotation and it's sad that so many people did. Obviously clothes should never offend, especially in kids wear when they probably are oblivious, so I applaud h&m for simply taking it down and not unnecessarily prolonging anyone's unease.

Well my opinion stands, I reckon the saying cheeky monkey came from racism anyway. And coolest monkey and cheeky monkey are two different things!

Yes h&m thought the world moved on because they're ignorant. Many of us everyday are subject to different kinds of racism. Mostly systematic in England as alot racist ppl hide it just so they don't get smacked daily.

I kno for a fact I get racially profiled atleast once a day. I live in a predominantly white city, thankfully I live in a multicultural part, but for work I visit some places where the people are shouting the N word at you just because.

400 years of slavery.. 400+ years of mental enslavement and now that black people are 'free', and are not called the n word as if it was their name and has been given as much rights as a white person. They think it's all over.

Stand up to racism always, make this place better for our kids.

Racism towards any race or culture is wrong.

I completely agree with your comments about racism. There is still so much racism in the world that must be stamped out completely. My family all come from Mauritius and my friends are predominantly black. So if I had any reason to believe there was genuine racism here I would agree. However, I simply feel that in this case, its not racism.

No, just the people I was around when I was younger would say racist things because they were brought up that way, now as an adult I'm simply not subject to any racism. In fact our workplace does a lot of BAME work that I participate in.

I'm not saying they intended to look racist or incite racism, but they knew that's something like that could b seen offensive and they chose to ignore it. As a major high street retailer they have a duty to not b so insensitive. If the black child was next to a white child with the same slogan things would b different now
