20% OFF HP Refurb Servers @ Bargain Hardware

Found 15th Mar
Just in time for an upgrade for my home lab. Spec'd out one 360p with 8x 600gb 10k SAS (will be configuring in RAID10 which should be nice for high throughput and low lag) and 2x E5-2640 with 64GB ram.

Total cost came to £1717 with the 20% off went down to £1374 which is dirt cheap considering what you're paying for in comparison to a standard workstation. Have seen these cheaper but not with 64GB ram and definitely not fully populated with HDDs.

Definitely would recommend for the home lab user, great for VM work. The offer expires next Friday.

I'm more impressed by the Chenbro 24 * 3.5" bay servers: bargainhardware.co.uk/che…er/

Well, apart from BH's usage of older RAID controllers that can't read more than 2TB from a drive and can't be put into a true JBOD mode. That bugged me when I bought the 2U 12 bay version of that server.

Good thing about the Chenbros is the price and cheap caddies for when you need more but their internal raid had has never been great. The best thing about them is they'll take most cards and don't jump up and down beeping at you about not putting a OEM part in. Much better for custom applications. We had a few some time back that we used as disk testers - again no problems with incompatible drives or raid.
The CPUs are Sandy Bridge from 6 years ago and use DDR3 so are these refurbished by the seller or someone else?
Does look good. The code appears to apply to G6 servers too.

6 years old yes but only 2 years older than the current configuration. Not a massive jump between the V1 and V3 but main difference is that the equivalent V3 CPU is 8 core vs the V1 6 core - 10nm smaller litho. anything newer than Haswell is just more power efficient. Still, in a g8 with platinum PSUs it's actually not too bad. Built to order and tested I believe, 1 year parts warranty too from them.

They seem very good value with the price of RAM upgrades etc.
I'd stick Refurbished in the title for accuracy.
