The discussion's about people who post to say that a code isn't working, even though the original post clearly shows that it has a later start date.

It was a joke... Been out on the ale and so my eyes were somewhat out of focus... Now I'm off for a shower and then do it all again! ;-)

Damn - I only work there on Sundays so I came home from work ready to make this post and somebody beat me to it

I wish I had my staff discount (not for another 2 months yet!), then I could get really cheap games / films.

can this code be used as many times as you want between the dates mentioned, or is it one of those once per person/order only codes? :santa:

Presumably you can use it more than once, as there's nothing to stop you getting physical vouchers and using again and again.

The previous similar code earlier this month allowed you to use it as many times as you want

Maybe if it had been included as a start date as it should have been I would of noticed it, but it wasnt

ok, thanks will give it a go.......would make some good savings with 20% off xmas books

The other smiths vouchers can be better depening on spend amount so be aware...

Too early a post!! Would be nice if someone reposted closer to the date so it will show up on RSS feeds again.

Just used the code about 5 mins ago and it worked on my book order.

thanks

Just successfully used the DVD code for 10% off too - thanks! H&R added.

They were the cheapest for this DVD boxset too, even without the extra 10% and the 8% Quidco. The 5% Amex cashback made it even better! £59.99 right down to £47.18 after all the discounts!

Thanks again.

Just to let everyone know that it's not a Deal!

What I witnessed today was store workers pricing everything higher. I went to buy a A4 plastic sleeves which had the price of £2.99 on it, yet it was scanned at around £4. The till manager then scanned in the 20% voucher (even though it hasn't started yet) to bring it down to the original price of £2.99. She then told me that she was about to stick a higher price label over the original price in order that customers next week think they're getting a great deal with this voucher.

So don't buy your heart out at the store next week, as the 'cheaper prices' really the same price as it's always been.

Funnily enough first time I tried this it gave me 20% - eventhough not supposed to start until 24th - now wont work

Looks like they might need some signs up to say where a higher price has been charged as a cached page (24/10/2008) from ]Hampshire trading standards suggests they will need them - of course as the info has been removed from the trading standards page perhaps the rules have changed. Buyer beware.

The thing is, it's not really a sale, it's voucher's. This creates a loophole for them, to trick buyers into thinking they're getting a better deal then they really are.

robot1000 you are good, hadn't thought about that. Obviously i now retract what i said in my previous post as it seems they are well within their rights to pull a fast one.

Just hope the game i wanted hasn't been bumped up in price!

shame this doesnt include consoles

I'm fairly sure it does include consoles (10% discount), as the flyer I have says EVERYTHING discounted. Give it a go.

I think you have to take this offer with a pinch of salt. In terms of cd/dvds Whsmiths never seem to be cheapest. Although I think they had superman returns for £1.99 a few weeks back. As for books 20% off in store brings them to online prices in many cases.

I bought a book 20% off in store last time they used this voucher. It worked out same price as their online price. I made zero saving but I did use up a gift voucher.

Question is will the online prices suddenly rise before the promotion?

Reminds me of the days HMV had 15% off days online. Most of the bargain sale items went up the day before the promotion. Fact is these firms know what they are doing. Offer someone 20% off and they think they are getting a bargain.

They could just price things at a bargain price to start with? :whistling:

This is what I like about firms like Richer Sounds. They aim to always be the cheapest in the market place. The philosophy is good but it does upset a few manufacturers on the way.

One of the biggest downfalls for whsmiths is that theres so many search engines online that tell you what price you could be paying. Its quite sickening how the market really operates and how the competition reacts to others price wise. For Whsmiths books are king.

Same here, too. Got a very useful 10% off an already lowest-priced DVD boxset a couple of days ago, but the code won't now work.

May simply be that the codes can only be used once per account, though.

Same problem here, code worked on my first order but wont work on second order.

one time only then???:gift:

Isn't this supposed to officially start on the 24th? Maybe u can use the code again on that date.

This was the first time that I had tried to use it, so it wasn't as if I had tried to do multiple orders.

I just tried to use the code. Same with the other one, both are expired. This is my first time using the code so I think whsmith have found out about us getting 20% off early and cut it off.
