Can anyone confirm whether it is possible to check that the code does work before comitting oneself to "a fixed price pay now by Paypal" purchase ?

Hi FF99,

You can check if the code works by attempting to buy a "buy-it-now' item which asks for immediate payment. Follow the steps through till you get to the paypal page, try the coupon then and if it comes up with something like this voucher cannot be used on your account, dont continue with the purchase just close the browser. Remember that with 'immediate payment' items, you have not won or commited to purchase anything till you submit the payment

well I tried it yesterday on an item of £19.95.

no joy I'm afraid

Never worked for me either, tried both CSUNNY and CSUNNY1, it isn't if I am new to ebay either with 162 feedback score.

Did anyone try CELEBRATION1 which was £5 off a £20 spend

That was nerve wracking! I was worried I'd accidentally buy it so I picked an item I sort of wanted for exactly £20 with free postage. I tried to redeem csunny, csunny1, celebration, celebration1, celebration2, celebration3 but none can be used with my paypal account.

Rule 7 doesn't help me though.
"The coupon is valid only when the user's eBay email address matches the email address of their PayPal account."
So much for using different email addresses everywhere to track down who sells them to spammers.

Get £5 off your next eBay purchase when you
spend £20 or more with redemption code CELEBRATION3. Don't know if this will work for everyone but it's worth a try.

Here's how to redeem:

Select and buy the item you want on eBay.co.uk, ensuring that the seller accepts PayPal. Minimum purchase price is £20 to qualify for the offer and the maximum discount is £5.

Pay for your purchase with PayPal and enter the redemption code CELEBRATION3 when prompted during the PayPal payment process. The email address you registered for your eBay and PayPal accounts must be the same in order to redeem your coupon successfully.

Expires on 21st June 2006.

Thanks KitKat

As you rightly said, it's worth trying..

Where: eBay.Co.UK

None of them worked for me.

"This Redemption Code cannot be used from your PayPal account."

£31 purchase.

none of them worked for me either

Have any of these codes ever worked? Is this not a scam by PayPal to get people to make purchases?

After all PayPal are a bunch of conmen anyway, what do you expect when it's run by eBay?

Sorry for the slagging match but both PayPal and eBay think they are above the law, and to be honest they must be because if anything goes wrong they can take all your money and you can't do anything aboout it.

"After all PayPal are a bunch of conmen anyway, what do you expect when it's run by eBay?"

I find myself agreeing with your comments to a certain degree. Since every time someone buys something through paypal using a credit card, paypal attempts to strongarm you into upgrading your account to accept CC payments.
From that point on every time you purchase, sell or even, dare to think of it, take money from your paypal account; charges are levied on the "transaction".
:pirate:

The only way around this is to use 2 paypal accounts for your ebay transactions (one for CC and one for cash). Therefore ruling yourself out of every promotion that they run... (rule7) :x

Rant Rant Rant - Off topic all over the show AND the codes didn't work for me either!

I have two accounts (to take advantage of quidco) but i received a code which worked (celebration3) via email... are you sure you can't participate in promos if you have 2 accounts?

I do agree that ebay and paypal are highly unfair - you pay all those fees for "buyer protection" and when you do get conned, they refund you a maximum of £120 and take £15 admin charge. What is the point in paying so many fees if they are so rubbish at protecting us and our money?

Also, eBay International AG own PayPal so you're paying the same company twice for the use of a through-line service (i.e. Selling items on eBay, then using PayPal to accept a payment on them).

The biggest problem I find is that even if you choose not to accept PayPal in your auction, there are so many idiots using eBay nowadays that when they win and can't pay by PayPal, they just don't bother paying.
But that's a topic of conversation for another time.

Yes, I have 2 PayPal accounts, one free and one for CC/DC transactions, and this is acceptable according to PayPal's own Terms & Conditions (I guess they realise people want the option of both).

I was going to buy a Firewire card from eBay, but I won't risk it if I can't use any of the codes.
