I have never used Ali express. Was thinking of buying a gpu waterblock. Costs about $80 usd with free shipping. How steep are the additional charges? I have read various articles stating 20% Vat and further £8 Royal Mail processing fee and possible customs fees of around 5%. All of which would wipe out any potential savings. Does anyone have any personal experience of buying on this platform?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I have never been charged over tens of orders including things like phones. Anecdotally, if you choose anything but the cheapest delivery option you are more likely to get charged. I have also never bought anything that was obviously worth more than £15 (the cutoff for duty I think) from just looking at the packaging

No issues with ordering for me, PayPal fee though.

Never had any customs charges on loads of stuff except randomly once, Royal Mail decided to try to charge me about £12 on some ~£5 electrical bits. I ignored it, so they would've had to send it back at their cost.

To avoid PayPal fees you can use a Revolut prepaid (burner/virtual disposable) card.
