Am I right in thinking the v5 is basically the same as v4, but with always on screen?

AKA - should be called v4.5.

Faster Slightly improved S5 system in chip, always on display, built in compass for improved directions/longitude/latitude data, 32GB internal storage...

So yeah pretty much a suped up 4, though a much better upgrade for those on a 3 or lower, or without one at all.

It has been confirmed that S5 chip is exactly same as S4 chip

I stand corrected! Looks to be an extra sensor and that’s about it.

Yeah speed wise there’s no improvement at all. Just gps and always on display. And memory bumped Ito 32gb.

How is it a big upgrade from the 3? I’ve the 3 and still love it and can upgrade but can’t see anything better that’s useful?

I never used 3 but when Series 4 came out everyone said it was a major upgrade in terms of speed and how 2mm if extra screen was significant.

I just upgraded from series 0 so for me it’s completely different experience. I can see myself actually interacting with the watch more often than before.

I use mine mostly for the ease of checking notifications, texts etc. Seeing whose calling without getting phone so I can see if I should answer (I wear connected earbuds so can this while driving) I use heart beat monitor for the gym too and obviously I check the time. The battery lasts long enough easily and screen is good size for those things. Friend has the 4 and loves it but he never had one before so can’t compare and he used ecg at start but says he’s not used it in 11 months. I’m under 40 so falling isn’t an issue so for all I’d love the 5 I just wonder if I’d see a difference worth the money after the initial excitement wears off. If I do it now and next year something handy is added I’d be gutted but if I wait a year and next year is no better I’ll wish I upgraded now. It’s a pain in the back side trying to decide. I’m more inclined to wait and hope for something better next year.

My series 0 was literally a very expensive notification device because of it being painfully slow. Still lasted close to 12 hours but I’m guessing that was because I wasn’t using it for much else.

Series 5 is definitely a massive upgrade for me. Always on is ok-ish. Never stared at my watch that much so hardly notice it. Only time will tell.

As far as compass is concerned, there isn’t any use for me atm but maybe with new apps, it’ll show it’s worth.

All in all, speed and screen improvement is a winner for me. I could have gone for series 4 but thought if I’m upgrading I might as well go for the latest one.

I keep saying when I upgrade things I’ll keep this device 3 years so 3rd year is basically a cheap year saving money but the iPhone has always had something new I really want but this watch might be a change to have a cheap year. Maybe I’ll see people opinion of the watch 5 after a month or 2

There's not much in it, there is also a compass built in and additional base storage of 32GB (vs original 16GB)
