Thanks for sharing this, Cyberman. Going to download these so I can listen whilst driving on Euro Truck Simulator 2 (strong)

I was introduced to this when I found one of the re-issued (non-DJ voiced) double vinyls in the Amazon Warehouse for almost pennies. Loved the selection and went on to find the box-set of the CDs (also, as in OPs description, non-DJ voiced) and bought some more vinyl but at full price as the reissues are mastered quite well given the age of the source material. As part of the original Amazon purchase I got their digital download which turned out to be the DJ-voiced version of the same year album, but the original. Odd, but hey. Recommended, in either this free download format or if you can get the reissued CDs/vinyl at reasonable prices. Edit:It's worth noting that the "new" stuff is under the name of "The Cruisin' Story" as opposed to just plain "Cruisin'"

djmutters

The word cruisin' doesn't appear in the dictionary, but it's a familiar word to millions of people who did it??? clearly don't know any LGBTQ+ friends lol

If you love radio this set is amazing! Most are recreations of classic radio shows but done really well with original DJs, jingles, adverts and music. The 1970 edition however is an actual recording of a real show. All are excellent but check out The weird beard, B Mitchell Reed, and Robert W Morgan shows first to hear just how good radio can be!

Clive Merrisson is GREAT, not my favourite, but very high up on the list fer sure. He can do BOTH serious & comedy. Comedy as in a drunk government minister on Drop The Dead Donkey, serious as in this (S.H) or in Foyles War. Cheers OP, a great find (fer radio OR TV) made ALL the better fer being FREE <3 BTW Was his (this) SH serious?, I only ask because of the LOOK on his face (shock) it kinda makes yer wonder what "friend Watson" is doing with his hands (cheeky)

Best Sherlock ever. Lovely atmosphere. Not shy of 'cigarettes' unlike Benedict, the woke Sherlock.

ScoobyStoo

This series still holds up very well. Excellent watch.

THE Sherlock Holmes. Nice one OP.

Bambibear

1984 when the first one came out! I. Am. Officially. Old. Definately best Sherlock as it's the closest to what Conan Doyle wrote. I even remember the complaints due to the drug references in there. Happy days.

greencat

I agree, Brett is probably the best match to the original canon - and fantastic he managed to film so much of it without the stories getting mangled beyond recognition in translation to the screen. Rathbone is wrapped up in a huge amount of nostalgia for me and certainly looks the part - but objectively I cannot say the filmed stories are always the best and while Bruce's Watson was fun as a kid, it's a missed opportunity not to make him Holmes' peer rather than the comedy relief. Out of the modern Holmes', I rather prefer Downey Jnr's more muscular take over Cumberbatch's sociopathic one.

If you ever listened to the radio that is. There were many times when we were without a tv set simply because we couldn't afford a new one when our other broke down, so we'd listen to the radio. And in many ways it was so much better. That's more or less gone now, but if just one person gives it a go they'll realise that Netflix ain't all that.

wombourne

Evokes so much more than a modern day audio book. The days when radio story-telling was done with heart and passion.

vinnynice

Thanks for posting this. I managed to find the Down the Line comedy series. Cheers

Did you fix it? I've had a MP3 CD in my car for years and it plays in the right order.

Parappathepappa

Click on the VBR MP3 link for standard mp3 download. It might be a zip file, but your phone should help you unzip that. I think there are a few episodes missing (in Quintessential Phase) - but otherwise all there.

I remember buying this years ago on CD when it was listed on here! Great spot OP! (cheeky)

I have the books and the cd's, tried to put the cd's onto an mp3 player and couldn't get it to play in the right order through my car stereo....hoping this will resolve that! Cheers OP. I have so many favourite moments from these, especially Marvin 'Stupid Machine'

minion_dave

Holy Zarquon's Singing Fish! I envy anyone who gets to experience at least the first 2 series for the first time. The revisits for the later series had their moments but you can't beat the original 2 series. I remember listening to a documentary about Douglas Adams a while back which highlighted just how close to the recording they were still writing and making changes. Absolute classics.

Would love to hear the 1972 gig they did at the Locarno in Coventry. They performed DSOTM under the then working title of Eclipse. The album was in its embryonic stage and songs were quite different to the final Album release. The Great gig in the Sky was called The Mortality Sequence and had synthesized organ and snippets of preachers reading scripture.

I would have been 12 in 74 and not allowed to go to London... Great music and a few beers can make this rotten lock-down bearable. Thanks

You can do both. Scroll down and you'll see some download options. I chose "VBR MP3" - that then opens up to show the files. You should see a download arrow and "13 files". Click that and you're all clear kid.

Good this.

Oh, for sure. Users of the archive can upload anything. Which is where all the copyrighted content comes from. And if the archive gets a dmca request, it will remove that content. Or at least, mark it inaccessible. In which case, in a hundred years when the copyright expires and the content is otherwise unavailable, future generations can experience it once more. Its beautiful, really!

ThePointyEnd

I get what you are saying but they put a lot of things on there that they very clearly have no right to.
