I'm not sure why you keep hammering on about Primark but it sounds like we agree more than we disagree! However, the fact remains that Barbour and many others have become 'fashion' brands and, in the process, have often lost much of their utility and quality. They've moved from small, well respected and steady businesses to ones out for the 'quick buck'; in the process they've often let down their core customer base. I already quoted Hunter wellies as a prime example: they used to be the best wellies at an appropriately high price, now they are little more than expensive, chinese-made fashion tat which, by all accounts, don't last. Ugg is another brand which could be quoted in this context.
I'm ordering myself a Barbour jacket, this one in fact... where are the logos?[image missing]I'm ordering because I like the style, the price is of no concern to me. I'm on HUKD so obviously I'm always after a bargain, but that could mean a £5 t-shirt or a £250 jacket. I buy something because I like it, not just because it's made by a decent brand.Barbour also offer a re-waxing service and repair service for their jackets... I wonder if Primark do that?I agree with your point about splashing the brand name all over items of clothing, for this reason I shall never wear Bench or Superdry again, despite liking some of their stuff. It's an embarrassment... but even the Barbour jacket this thread is about only has one logo patch sewn on the front, hardly unsightly is it?Also, maybe this means nothing to you, and that's completely understandable... but Barbour (along with brands like Fred Perry and Lyle & Scott) have heritage which actually does interest me. Call me a geek but I enjoy learning about how brands started etc. whereas Bench and Superdry certainly do not have this.
I offered a personal view and I didn't start name calling. Ignore my comment or post a contrary view if you wish (neither of which you've managed to achieve here) but there is some validity in my point (maybe this one isn't the best example though). Not too long a go a piece of 'quality' clothing had a discrete label inside and the wearer knew what they'd paid for, others may have recognised the quality, maybe not. Now all these 'brands' are being bought up by marketing houses and they seek to get a return on their investment by tastelessly splashing the brand name across them to impress the impressionable. Often the quality is far poorer too (Hunter wellies are a prime example). Like I said: just my opinion.
Why is there one of these Primark morons on every branded clothing threads? If I don't like something within a thread... I don't click on it? So why do you?
I never liked Barbour jackets but needed a new coat, had a look at these and thought they were over priced but decided to try them on anyway. Warmest and most comfortable jacket I've ever tried. Well worth the money, getting it for this price + quidco just makes it better.
