You are right, although it will always be difficult for most people to know which if any of them are in some way financially encouraged to give a positive review. Having said that it's a good place to start and if you check out two or three sites and they all give good reviews then you lower the risk.
I use bitdefender and get my license key via email from ebay sales. Just find a seller who has been doing it for a long time and pick the cheapest. The National Cyber Security Centre has some information ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/what-is-an-antivirus-product I agree with the person who said you do not really need it for phones, provided you do not download apps from dubious (not official) sources and provided you dont click on links in sms or emails. Of course some zero day could come out and spread like wildfire and AV may (with heuristics) stop it ...
Note that I had to check out using a fee-free card in USD to get this price, if you set it to £, for me at least, it goes up to £25.
Luckily there are a number of websites that test AV applications for effectiveness against actual threats using a well documented methodology, so we don't just have to rely on the opinion of a random selection of internet users.
User reviews can be useful for common noticeable problems, but very few users will have the will, let alone the ability to test the effectiveness of security software.

I've just managed to do the same, handy if you only want to try Bitdefender for a year (5 device 1 year). Switching from long time Avira user because of "Smart Scan" (it scans your PC for privacy/optimsations every day which you can't disable - some of the changes are dangerous if applied. Lots of complaints about it but all just ignored). If you google "bitdefender voucher code" (choose the top link) you'll see a 90% off deal with the code the OP listed (RENEWAL-EXP-TS-BMS). It will initially show in dollars but it changed to pounds once I entered the renewal code and it refreshed. As an extra bonus, if you turn off the auto renewal option it offers you the same price next year guarantee if you turn it back on. You can still turn off auto renewal at any point so its nice to have a locked in price if nothing better comes up next year.
Yes. Brand aside, I did a 10device deal similarly. ultimately even 5 devices may not be enough if you are a family setup- suprising how many devices you need now once you include phones and tablets (for which its worth having something). THe cost differences seem marginal and 2 yrs or more cover means its off your plate for awhile. Black Friday is a good reminder to check the market and make sure your chosen vendor is still top of the league, but generally i have found BitDefender decent on all OS's I use and holds up well. I used Kaspersky for awhile also, and Norton, but both seemed more intrusive or hassle across the family. Its worth doubling down with another free one (like Avast or such thats free and top of the league) for minor devices or machines where you dont expect a lot of use.
Doh, my mistake. Nor do I. Licence was expiring Jan 21, now expiring Jan 22.
please wake up. i dont want another 2020 in my life!!!
As above, thanks mikem1062 and justmirel, and of course the OP for kicking off the original thread. I've just renewed at £14.98, adding it onto my existing subscription that was expiring in Jan 2020. Account updated and now showing as the renewal in place until Jan 2021. (y)
No worries I am getting similar issues having used Kaspersky for long like network interference so was thinking abt bitdefender
Sorry, I forgot to reply. Kaspersky, ironically, was a pain because of the constant popups and the fact it was constantly blocking me from doing things I normally do. I've yet to have any such problems with Bitdefender.
Can u do a unlimited trial
Wht kapersky was a pain?
No mate read my first comment and make up your own assumptions ;)

Bitdefender Total Security 5 User - 1 year - £15.36 with code @ BitDefender Store£15.36£19.9923% off
Can't see it from the deal link - I had similar problems with another Bitdefender offer, I got via email, showing regular pricing despite the offer being valid until the end of the month. Went with an Amazon deal for Bitdefender Total Security with 5 users - £18.99 albeit via a physical code sent via Prime next day.

Is your new password more secure? Let me know what it is and I’ll tell you how secure I think it is... It’s a free of charge service I offer.
It's £34.99 minimum.. (shock) but £19.99 at Amazon sold by Bitdefender (5 devices) or £23.99 for 10 devices
I... What? Do you also leave your front door unlocked and slightly ajar?
Just been hit by harma. I have nothing left to lose. Might do this now the horse has bolted. Don't be like me and open up RDP, with port forwarding on the default with a terrible password. You may as well put out a welcome mat.

Thanks for posting this deal on site @UNCOSU-IT Hopefully despite the cold votes members found it useful :)
Yep, proper sealed card with working code sent via post. Got it too last month. Still works 😁
each to their own... personally, tried Bitdefender for a year by using the free trials but not so easy to do now as they don't give you new code to add onto existing acc. but create new one. £20 is good, outside of black friday specials... runs minimally, from hwat i can see. bargain for peace of mind.
Sophos home is free why pay.... home.sophos.com/en-us.aspx Both bitdefender and avg and many others rank below sophos in third party tests and you have to pay for their software.....
