They have a whole bunch of very decent offers on Samyang lenses ATM. The Samyang AF 35mm f2.8 Lens is only £144, never seen it that cheap, makes your A7 almost pocket-able its so small and light, it's decently sharp too. The 45mm and 18 are down to £259.

Good price. The manual focus version of this lens is a different optical design I believe which yields slightly sharper results (and it's cheaper). The quality control on both versions of the lens are known to be poor though (decentering). Samyang have just released an updated body design of the manual focus version however (same optical formula) which is the version I'd go for personally. Great bang for the buck. Definitely the best astrophotography lens on a budget.

He also said for casual vlogging you are better off with your phone and something like the excellent Osmo Mobile 3 grip.

Jmc0812

Just watched Froknowsphoto’s YouTube review on this and he’s not that positive about it. From what he says you’d be better off with a Canon M50 and the kit lens for a 1/3rd less price.

Depends what you like shooting with so many options. A good upgrade to the standard kit zoom would be the Sigma AF 17-50mm f2.8 EX DC OS HSM or the super sharp Sigma 18mm-35mm F1.8. Can't go wrong with the excellent prime Nikon DX35mm F1.8G either. Also the Nikon 40mm f/2.8G DX is a great little versatile macro lens good for portraits too.

ijwia

any particular lenses i should look out for ?

toaster

Nothing wrong with the D3500, all recent APS-C camera bodies have similar levels of image quality, with the right lens the Nikon badged Sony 24.2 MP sensor will be far better in all areas than the aged 16MP M4/3 in this G7. There are loads of great quality lenses for the Nikon, tons of S/H ones at good prices, especially with people jumping ship to mirrorless. A better lens is the surest way to increase IQ, not a downgrade in sensor size.

ijwia

how is this compared to the d3500 nikon ? i got a nikon 3500 last year, i thought there were only 2 brands in town , nikon and cannon as far as quality cameras were concerned im starting to think i shouldnt have bought the d3500 new but instead got a better older camera

The good m43 lenses are costly to. Although imo you get more for your money through out the range. Also, ive never been disappointed with a m43 lens, where i have with fuji (there not all what they are cracked up to be)

RaiKush

So typical isn't it? You buy something then voila price goes down significantly. I am gonna get the G9 now, the choice of lenses in Micro ⁴/3 is nice. I had looked at the Fujifilm, but crikey, the lenses are expensive.

bovrilla

Regrettably, I got this body-only for 650 just before all the crazy deals emerged. One thing to note - when filming in 4k, it crops to the middle of the sensor so you need a stupidly wide angle to compensate. This doesn't happen at 1080p and the 1080p footage is pretty good, but as far as I know neither the G80 nor the higher-up G9 suffer from this. Otherwise fabulous camera.

Removes the dilemma of whether to take the plunge for me at least (lol)

Smurflor

Up to £799 now, which was still considered a 'deal' price recently but there are currently several places to pick one up for that price. That wasn't the case yesterday though, so still not a bad price if someone was looking to buy.

Holgmaster

Best camera I ever had and at this price it is superb. I have a feeling they are clearing stock for a new model to arrive. I might by a second body near October before I go (hopefully) on Safari again. And indeed the new FW is superb and added most GH5 features to the G9.

W_jelly1

if you get one update the firmware as lots of extra options. Also look at some of the kits e.g. with Leica lens, extra grip, batteries etc. it's a great camera, love mine.

Cracking lens!

For those with A mount cameras you really can't beat the Minolta 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 RS for a general purpose zoom lens. They're often available for under £50 on eBay. Just make sure you do not get the xi version. Only advantages of this Sigma would be 4mm on wide end and faster quieter autofocus. dyxum.com/lenses/Minolta-AF-28-105mm-F3.5-4.5-RS_lens37.html dyxum.com/lenses/Sigma-24-105mm-F4-DG-HSM-Art_lens706.html

DealHugger

Yes good point. I actually have a couple of them, FE and E, those translucent ones. I found them to be too bulky and eliminates the advantages of the mirrorless cameras. Those non-translucent ones are just dead slow. I would prefer the native Zeiss 24-70/4 or 18-105 Power Zoom than this combination.

anewman

LA-EA3 best for this one. LA-EA4 would be useless as it uses its own autofocus system.

rprp

Unless you have an A to E adapter

This is a great lens. I use mine with Nikon crop sensor and full frame cameras. It is lighter than the Sigma equivalents, and results are brilliant.

A great lens at a great price for a non-Grey Import. Currently use this every week for my non-league football photography.

speedbird747

P1050 coming I wonder? Lol

Pomrick

I agree. For people who leave their DSLR in auto, bridge cameras like that are probably better and a much cheaper way to get something with a big zoom. DSLRs are hugely versatile and great for when things get more creative, but you need to learn how to use them to get the best out of them (I'm definitely not an expert but have done a few courses which were really worthwhile).
