Well done on the ride.Yeah, I find these tyres are heavy but good for winter commutes when fixing a puncture on a dark ,wet and cold day is not desirable.

mozzer99

Cycled Lands End to John O`Groats in ten days on a hybrid and wanted trouble free over any weight saving. These tyres did not disappoint. No punctures. I now ride a road bike to work every day with Hutchinson tyres and find these almost as puncture proof but lighter. A cheap set of basic michelins gave me almost daily punctures. Going back to my hybrid now with these tyres seems like dragging too much weight and is such hard work I don`t know how I did the long ride a few years ago......

karmalite

I don't find a massive speed difference, yes they're a lot heavier than race tyres, but I only use these for commuting where the protection is more important than raw speed. Anybody with real leg muscles from cycling, rather than finger muscles from trolling, won't notice much difference.

HotDealKev

Thanks. Will look at OP's then.

Alright for wheelbarrows and push chairs but I would steer well clear of solid tyres for cycles.I worked in a bike shop early 90s which tried to sell solid Greentyres. Yes, they sold them but most people came back complaining. (1) Very hard to fit to rim (2) Once fitted the tyre moved on the rim. (3) If Brake and Skid and rub the Knobbly tread off you will certainly be able to feel this when you ride (3) Uncomfortable Ride transmitting Bumps & Vibes through your bones. (4) Totally dead feel when riding soaking up lots of rider's energy. That was in the 90s maybe more advanced now but doubt it. Best options: (1) Puncture resistant lightweight tyre (2) Slime inner tubes (3) Go tubeless and use latex sealant.

True, only about £20 more for the Garmin Edge 200 if you're lucky. But if you don't need/want to be able to follow courses, get this.

At that price you could almost get a Garmin Edge 200 if you find the right deal

Vanderlust

Btw, check eBay at the moment. There's been a lot of auctions for Mountain Equipment and Marmot gloves (like the Stretch, XT's etc). You may well get a pair of those even cheaper than these. I got the ME Randonee's for a Xmas gift and tested them in freezing weather for over 300 miles. Always toasty and I've got serious problems with cold hands when out biking. If you can find them on sale somewhere definitely pick them up.

Vanderlust

Useless gloves. They stop you from giving the middle finger to drivers who think the horn is supposed to be used whenever a bike is in front of you. :{

Do they stop you from signing on?

Actually, i'm sure its quite the opposite!!!!!

evo is far better but as someone said depends what you want - best to try them on - they have them in evans stores who also will price match most stores/online stores

royals

only jackets better are Gore ones but they are £2-300+

royals

eh? why? the evo is windproof!

royals

nope it was £99.99 at very, but i had £50 of vouchers and £30 for opening a new account, so £80 off well worth the money - i cycle 5 miles to work in a polo shirt and this jacket, nothing else needed on top!

roof30

Windproof is not waterproof generally. It depends entirely on what your motivation for buying the jacket is. I wear a windproof jacket underneath my Nightvision Evo jacket.

souljacker

Agreed, seems like a great deal to me, hot. I'll look into getting a pair of sealskinz, cheers

jetsetwilly

Each to their own. Some people prefer flats, some cages, some cleats. Personally I'm in the latter for the advantages they offer. Sealskin socks (the mid thermals or whatever they are calling them this year) are pretty good at keeping your feet warm and keeping the water from the inside of your shoe from your skin. Overshoes too might be of some use. For cold, wet Winter specific MTB activity with cleats, the "best" options are the shoes/boots in the £100+ range such as Northwave Celsius Arctic, Shimano MW81 etc. These shoes have an RRP £150, so £112.50 (or around £100) is pretty good for them. They are expensive, but they are a good investment over a number of years, especially with the sorts of winters we've had recently. Do people who post TV, computer and mobile phone deals that cost several hundred pounds get as much stick? A deal is a deal surely?

Mascherano

Oh I know a lot about this. I also know that everyone I know who owns SPD's goes to great lengths to tell you about them. They are just an accessory for show-offs

Couldn't agree more with all points. Great glove at low price but the trade off is they don't last that long.

Not voting because on the face of it this is a decent price for this helmet. Personally I wouldn't fork out this sort of cash for a helmet though. You can pick up a well made, comfortable, light, branded helmet for £30- £40 such as these. Giro Indicator £24.99 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/giro/indicator-helmet-ec010547 Specialized Align £29.99 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/align-helmet-ec019730

Hot from me Klis. I wear a Giro Hex and have experienced its fantastic build quality firsthand. Was cycling down a hill and cornered at the bottom in the rain; front tyre blew out and I hit the tarmac at high speed very hard. Head hit road so hard I had a massive lump, even with the helmet on. Save to say, if I hadn't been wearing it I would have died.

deleted9216

Good I am glad 'your' mind is made up!

Klis

I highly disagree :P The tesco's direct version as you have stated, most likely is made of just polystyrene and plastic, though I am sure it meets the standards. But comfort, weight, size/fit, durability after +1 knock are all factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing the right lid. Anyway, I don't need you to tell me which is better as I have made 'my' mind up already :) - If you want to promote the Tesco own brand as the superior class of helmet, then please be my guest.

deleted9216

You are right and thats why i did not vote cold. Just I dont believe its a bargain as the price is over inflated to make you feel like it will do a better job.

Ah the Team Carbon is an excellent little machine, I ride a Ribble Scuro HCR which is a fantastic bike for the money. Once you get the bug its impossible to get rid of ;) I do appreciate the reviews the GP4000s get and I am considering getting them as my summer tire but for this time of year I prefer the comfort of having something I think may be a little bit tougher. Either way I know its unlikely many tyres can match my stint of 12 months/riding everyday on Marathon plus without a single puncture!

bisoner

My steed is a Team Carbon Boardman. Yourself? I've only started riding in the past 18 months but have already got the cycling bug - upgraded wheels, saddle and more clothing and accessories than can now fit in a drawer previously full of 'normal' clothing!!! The only reason I keep harping on about GP4000s is because had a spate on punctures on some lesser Continentals and then I tried the Michelins which split in less than 2 months. I have heard good things about Gatorskins but most roadies on the Bikeradar forum give glowing recommendations about the GP4000s - they are probably faster than the Gators but the Gators are probably tougher. I will look at those threads you've posted though.

themeanveg

I see where you're coming from regarding the GP4000 and they do get good reviews, I can only comment on views from my friends. We could debate the merits of the Hardshell over the standard Gatorskins all day but they are a different product and have different prices. For a bit more info I found this thread; http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?p=2721643 Out of interest what bike do you run your tyres on?

bisoner

First point - I've been using Conti GP 4000s all of 2010 and not had a single puncture - I had Pro Race 3's before them and whilst they were faster they didn't last long at all. All of my cycling friends use the GP 4000s and the guys doing LEJOG earlier this year found them extremely reliable. As for the posted tyres, it sounds like a bit of rebranding rather than entirely new tyre technology. I stand by my comments that the ones I have posted would be better value, even if they are a vastly inferior (I doubt it!!) 2009 model.

themeanveg
Am I correct in thinking that this is £24.99 each? so the title should read "Gatorskin Hardshell Bike Tyre" not "Gatorskin Hardshell Bike Tyres" Unless this is for a pair, but I don't think so? I would be happy to be proven wrong, please?
Yes sorry you're right it is per a tyre, if you find a pair at this price buy as many as you can. ;)
